Lanyu's Relaxing Hiking Trail - Datianchi

Dianchi Lake in Lanyu is located on a mountain ridge extending northwest from the highest peak in southern Lanyu, "Dasen Mountain." Originally a volcanic crater, it transformed into a lake over time due to rainwater accumulation. The indigenous Tao people of Lanyu call it "DuWa Wa," meaning "Sea of the High Mountains." Dianchi Lake sits at an altitude of approximately 340 meters, with a trail length of about 2 kilometers. The round-trip hike takes around 3.5 hours. Some sections of the trail have steep slopes and slippery rocks, making it moderately challenging. As its name suggests, Datianchi is not only the largest "sea (lake)" in the mountains of Lanyu but also a sacred taboo site for the Tao people. However, in recent years, with the development of tourism, the taboo has been broken. Its stunning scenery and tropical rainforest atmosphere have made it a must-visit destination in Lanyu.
