Koishikawa Korakuen Garden in late November is incredibly tranquil. The vibrant mix of red, orange, yellow, and green leaves creates a stunning scenery. There is also a duck pond. The garden opens at 9 AM, with an entrance fee of 300 yen, which is very reasonable. It is easily accessible. It is recommended to visit right when the garden opens to avoid crowds. The garden is not very large. There is also a shop selling warm dango, which is delightful to enjoy in the chilly weather.

Staying in Asakusa is also a great vibe. Walking through Hoppy Street in the morning, it's bustling with restaurants lining both sides. The staff at the front of the store are competing to attract customers, and almost every restaurant is full of customers. Memo stayed at Hotel Tavinos Asakusa, just a 2-minute walk to Sensoji Temple. The price is excellent. A room for 2,240 baht, which sleeps 2 people, works out to 1,120 baht per person (prices fluctuate depending on the season). Memo previously stayed at Hotel Tavinos in Kyoto, which was also a good value. I recommend it to anyone looking for a more affordable hotel. I checked in December, and the prices were about the same. To get to and from Narita/Haneda Airport and Hotel Tavinos Asakusa, you can take the train from Asakusa Station (Toei Asakusa Line). It's a direct connection, but it's a very long walk. Another option is the Airport Limousine Bus, which stops at Asakusa View Hotel, which is a short walk away. From Narita Airport, take the Access Express train and use your IC card to tap. A review of a new capsule hotel in Tokyo, opening in 2025. This one-tatami-mat tearoom concept is perfect for solo travelers. It costs around 1,000 baht per person per night (there are also private rooms for three). Memo really likes this concept because it's not like the bunk beds of typical capsule hotels, so the room isn't cramped (though it's still small, as is typical in Tokyo). Luggage can be stored under the mattress (with a coded lock). Memo fits one large 29-inch bag, one 20-inch bag, and one backpack perfectly. The bed is very comfortable, and there are privacy curtains like you would find in a typical capsule hotel. There are charging outlets at the head of the bed. The bathroom is clean, and they provide towels, shampoo, soap, conditioner, and a Dyson hair dryer. Self-check-in/check-out via tablet is not available, as there are no staff on-site. This is a drawback, especially if you have a problem, as there is no live staff on-site. However, there is a phone number available if you're in a rush. Alternatively, you can wait until cleaning is scheduled between 10:00 AM and noon. A word of caution: Remember the luggage compartment lock code, or you won't be able to open it. It's been voted one of the "most desirable places to live" by many Japanese people. While close to Shibuya, it offers a more relaxed pace and boasts trendy cafes, unique eateries, retro shopping streets, and landmarks like the "Carrot Tower." For transportation, it's accessible via the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line or the Setagaya Line. Finding a quiet observation deck to enjoy Tokyo's cityscape without the tourist crowds can be difficult; many famous attractions are either overcrowded or require expensive tickets. However, the "Carrot Tower" at Sangenjaya Station offers a panoramic observation deck! And it's completely free! Carrot Tower is easily accessible, just a 5-minute drive from Shibuya and a mere 1-minute walk from Sangenjaya Station. When we actually visited, we found that the observation deck was practically deserted, with plenty of free seats available for people to sit, rest, and enjoy the view of Tokyo. The Sumida River Fireworks Festival is an annual fireworks display held on the last Saturday of July along the Sumida River in Tokyo, Japan (around Asakusa and Mukojima areas). It is considered one of Tokyo's three major fireworks festivals, along with the Tokyo Bay Daika Fireworks Festival and the Jingu Gaien Fireworks Festival, both held in August. This year, I took advantage of my annual leave to visit Tokyo and experience the fireworks festival often seen in Japanese dramas. Here are some information and my impressions; remember to save this if you plan to go in the future! After looking at several viewing spots shared on Japanese blogs and using Google Street View, we weighed the crowds and scenery to find a suitable location: Shioiru Park. You can simultaneously capture photos of the Tokyo Skytree, its shimmering reflection on the water, and fireworks of a suitable size. If the weather is good while waiting, you can also photograph the sunset. Although it's not the main event location, there is site planning and traffic control, so the crowds aren't too overwhelming. We arrived around 4:00 PM and chose a spot on the grass beside the walkway to set up our picnic blankets. As we walked along the Sumida River towards the Tokyo Skytree, the grass was already covered with large picnic blankets laid out by people – the sheer number of blankets showed just how enthusiastic the Japanese were about the fireworks festival! ❤️🔥 After finding a spot, we headed to a nearby convenience store to stock up on food, since the fireworks wouldn't start for another 3.5 hours. I recommend bringing an umbrella ☂️ and an ice bucket for drinks 🥤, as waiting in the sun is quite a test of endurance. Around 6:00 PM, people started arriving with their picnic blankets, and the atmosphere became increasingly lively. However, if you're like us and just want to experience the fireworks festival without actually watching the whole thing, there's really no need to arrive early to secure a spot 😦. Because once the fireworks started, people who were initially seated were blocked by those still in the aisles and hadn't taken their seats, so we stood up. We also left after about 15 minutes to avoid the crowds of people waiting for transportation. In summary, what makes Japanese fireworks festivals different from other places is probably the people wearing yukatas (light cotton robes). When visiting Tokyo, staying at an amazing hotel is a must! This time, I stayed at the Hotel Prince Garden Tower Tokyo, located in Shiba Park, Minato City, Tokyo. It's about a 5-8 minute walk from the nearest subway station, Akabanebashi Station, which is very convenient. There are buses that go directly to Haneda and Narita airports, so the transportation is really unbeatable! 🚇✈️ The hotel is situated in Minato City, with an unbeatable location! Looking out from the room window, you can see Tokyo Tower, and the nighttime light show is definitely a visual feast. The hotel’s interior is modern, and the rooms are especially spacious, which is a real luxury in a city like Tokyo. The bathroom is very comfortable, featuring electric curtains and a massage bathtub. After a day of sightseeing, enjoying this experience is truly worth it! The staff are friendly and can carry your luggage directly to the room, handling details very well. 🛁🛌 The rooms here are super comfortable, especially the bed, which feels like sinking into clouds. They also provide excellent toiletries suitable for sensitive skin. For Tokyo, the room size is considered large, and the bathroom facilities are definitely top-notch, including a French-style balcony with a beautiful view of Tokyo Tower. For those wanting to stay multiple nights, I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. 🏨🛋️ There are many fun attractions around the hotel, such as Zojoji Temple, Tokyo Tower, and Shiba Park. They are all within walking distance. Several nearby restaurants are also worth trying, especially the Japanese restaurant "Shibazakura" and the Sky Bar. The bar is located on the 33rd floor, with Tokyo Tower in full view—having a drink there is full of Tokyo vibes! 🍱🍹 The only downside might be the hotel’s outdated smoking policy, as some areas still allow smoking. One night, my mood was affected by a smoking guest, so I hope the hotel improves this soon. Of course, occasionally the sound of cars on the highway can be a bit noisy, but compared to the other advantages, this flaw can be barely ignored. 🚬🚗 Overall, Hotel Prince Garden Tower Tokyo is truly the best choice to experience Tokyo life. A summer family trip 😍 Both adults and kids had a blast Every meal was delicious The only downside was the intense heat Here’s a recap of our trip with grandma, two 3-4 year-old kids, and a few adults: Day 1 We arrived at night. After picking up the car at Narita Airport, we headed to our hotel in Asakusa and had dinner nearby. We randomly chose an izakaya, and it turned out to be very tasty. Day 2 After breakfast, we went for a pre-booked yukata experience and photoshoot. Choosing and putting on the yukata took about an hour. Then, we headed to Senso-ji Temple for the photoshoot. Sweating profusely was inevitable, and the kids’ patience was limited. However, the photos turned out amazing and created wonderful memories. Despite the effort, I highly recommend it. Afterward, we had lunch and wandered around the area. Day 3 Another scorching day. We visited Ueno Zoo, which had a low entrance fee and a wide variety of animals. Surprisingly, we ended up buying quite a few items at the souvenir shop 🤣. However, visiting in summer was quite exhausting, and I somewhat regret this choice. Later, we headed to Lake Kawaguchi and stayed at a guesthouse with a view of Mount Fuji. It was fantastic. After dinner, we played with fireworks in the front yard. Day 4 We went peach-picking, a must-do during the season! Although the staff didn’t speak Mandarin or English, they were very hospitable. The freshly picked peaches were incredibly juicy and sweet 🍑. Afterward, we strolled through a park but left quickly due to mosquito bites. In the evening, we went shopping at a supermarket and drugstore. Day 5 It rained heavily that day, so we made a last-minute decision to visit Fuji-Q Highland. The main reason was the Thomas Train playhouse, which charges per attraction, so you don’t have to worry about spending the whole day or skipping rides that aren’t suitable. Luckily, the rain stopped later, and we enjoyed various rides. The restaurants inside weren’t expensive and offered plenty of options. Then, we visited the beautiful Music Forest Museum, which had a stunning environment and a view of Mount Fuji. The souvenirs were exquisite—a must-visit spot. Afterward, we went to Oishi Park to photograph the blooming lavender, with Mount Fuji as a breathtaking backdrop after the rain. Day 6 We went to Swan Boat Park to ride swan boats and feed the swans, which delighted the kids. Then, it was time to return to Tokyo. We loved the attractions and relaxed pace at Lake Kawaguchi, and even the random restaurants there were of high quality. Day 7 We visited Legoland and Diver City, taking a photo in front of the Statue of Liberty. The Legoland experience wasn’t as rich as I had imagined, so it’s skippable if you’re short on time. Diver City was great for shopping, and we got lost in the shopping spree. They even had giant cotton candy! Day 8 We made a final dash to Tsukiji Market before heading to the airport. There were so many delicious foods, but the long queues were intimidating. After lining up at a few places, we gave up.
