Gediminas tower in Vilnius

The Gediminas tower is the last remaining part of the upper castle still standing to this day. It was originally built as a wooden castle in the 13th century before being replaced by stone castles in later years. The castle and hill is named after Gediminas, a Latvian king who is renowned in folklore. The castle tower is so important and iconic it used to feature on the former Latvian currency! Entry costs five euros for adults and a visit is highly recommended.
