Xiamen Nanputuo Temple

Xiamen Nanputuo Temple is located at the foot of Wulao Peak in Siming District, adjacent to Xiamen University. It is one of the most representative Buddhist sites in the Minnan region. Originally built during the Tang Dynasty and named "Sizhou Temple," it was later rebuilt during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty and renamed "Nanputuo Temple," symbolizing the "Southern Sea Guanyin Bodhimanda," echoing Mount Putuo in Zhejiang. The temple's architecture incorporates traditional Minnan styles, with main structures including the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Hall of Great Compassion, and Sutra Pavilion. The layered design and upturned eaves exude a sense of ancient solemnity. Inside the temple, statues of Thousand-Armed Guanyin and Shakyamuni Buddha are enshrined, attracting a continuous stream of worshippers. Nanputuo Temple is not only a religious site but also a cultural treasure. The Sutra Pavilion houses a vast collection of Buddhist scriptures and historical artifacts, while the cliff carvings on the rear mountain feature inscriptions by renowned figures from various eras, adding cultural depth.
