2025 Rijeka Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in May)

When visiting Rijeka for a day, we visited the most popular attraction in the city, which was the medieval Trsat Castle. We climbed the Petra Kruzica stairway towards the castle - the climb is over 500 steps, so prepare for a workout. The castle dates back to the 13th century and looks 138-meters over the city of Rijeka on a hill, and we climbed the Roman tower to get a panoramic view. There is a terrace cafe inside and a permanent exhibition about the crypt. #croatia #rijeka

Flew in to Ljubljana and by car made my way to Croatia and specifically Rijeka. Magical location where I stayed at Hilton Costabella Rijeka Beach Resort & Spa. Just check out this view, pure magic at this hotel with views, great facilities, amazing food and drinks offerings and last but not least, best staff in the world. Can’t wait to go back again

Plitvice Lakes National Park is mainly composed of 16 lakes distributed in a belt (12 in the upper lake area and 4 in the lower lake area) The lake area is mainly a Kester terrain, showing caves and lakes composed of limestone. Because of its unique topography and natural landscape, it was listed as a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO in 1979! Because Plitvice Lakes National Park is vast, plan your walking route with your friends in advance (note: parking hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm) We decided to start from the Lower Lake District and buy tickets at the intersection beside the highway. (One-day and two-day tickets are available. If you want to visit both the upper and lower lake areas, it is recommended to purchase a two-day ticket) We first took the shuttle bus to the classic photo area, and then walked to the largest waterfall area to take pictures (the largest waterfall is located at the bottom of Plitvice Lakes National Park) If you arrive early, you can take pictures of the shadow of the mountain, so if you are a photography enthusiast, it is recommended to set off early. The Great Falls is 78 meters high and is the largest and most spectacular waterfall in the entire park! After leaving the largest waterfall area, we came to the boat station to take the boat In addition to the souvenir shop, there is also a toilet at the boarding point. After a short rest, we headed to the other side by boat. Along the way, you can see the clear water of the lake and the magnificent rocks on both sides of the lake. Everything top class-room, staff (especially Petar in the Executive Lounge-professional and personable), food, pool, views, etc. Extra special if you can access the Lounge and are given an Honors upgrade, but also fantastic for a 'regular' stay. One of the best included breakfasts we've seen, pool cabanas are great alongside the infinity pool. Stayed in October, so enjoyed that hotel wasn't at capacity. Very nice hotel with direct view over the whole bay area. The hotel was finished in 2022 and everything still looks brand new. The artificial beach has about 3cm pebbles and is very clean. There is an outdoor and an indoor pool plus a spa area with whirlpool and multiple saunas. Food was also great. All in all very recommendable.

Travelled to Rijeka which is a drivable distance from Ljubljana in Slovenia. I landed in Ljubljana with Wizz Air and a friend living in Rijeka drove me into Croatia. A really fun experience where you can explore two countries in one weekend. Lots to do in Slovenia, a cultural city and lots of food available to try.
