This was such a great trip! Trip over to straddy in a fairy, drive to the beach camp and set up an awesome campsite! Soooo many things to do there! Beach, 4wding, Lakes, Hiking, Fishing, Jetskiing, Sunsets & Sunrises! Was such an incredible little holiday with a group of people, definitely recommend!! Amity Point is the best for swimming in the ocean because of its shallow waters and clean seawater! 🏝Moreton Island, the world's second-largest sand island, is Brisbane's "secret garden." Facing the Pacific Ocean, one side is often met with strong winds and waves, while the side facing Moreton Bay is tranquil and serene. Here's the itinerary: 🚢Recommended ferry schedule: 9:30 am departure - 4:30 pm return 💧Brown Lake This is a naturally occurring, rainwater-fed lake. Originally a large sand dune, the lake's water is stained a beautiful amber-brown by the surrounding tea trees. It is known for its tranquil waters and the surrounding bushland scenery. Brown Lake holds spiritual and cultural significance for the indigenous people of Moreton Island, who believe its waters can purify the soul and grant eternal youth. 🏁Point Lookout Located on the northeastern tip of Moreton Island, Point Lookout is the island's largest tourist area. It includes kilometers of surf beaches and towering rocky headlands. The main street is lined with restaurants, cafes, bakeries, ice cream shops, and businesses offering snorkeling, surfing, and other activities. This is the easternmost point of Queensland. In addition to dolphins and sea turtles, you can also see migrating humpback whales from June to October. 🤳North Gorge Walk An iconic landmark of Moreton Island, the 1.2 km long boardwalk encircles a beautiful rocky headland. Along the azure coastline, you can see a blend of deep blue and emerald green waters, along with many unique natural cliffs and rock formations. Dolphins and sea turtles are frequently sighted here. Getting There - Public Transport: From Brisbane, take the train to Cleveland and then transfer to the ferry to North Stradbroke Island. The ferry ride takes about 30–45 mins. Best Time to Visit - The island has a subtropical climate, with spring-like weather all year round, making it suitable for travel throughout the year. However, summers (December to February) can be quite hot, while winters (June to August) are cooler and ideal for outdoor activities. Recommended Attractions - North Gorge Walk: This is a walkway around the headland, offering spectacular ocean views and a chance to see diverse marine life. You can also see iconic landmarks such as Whale Rock along the trail. - Point Lookout: This is an excellent location for whale watching, dolphin spotting, and observing other marine life. One of Queensland's most beautiful and untouched places, Stradbroke Island, or Straddie as it is more commonly referred to is a definite must visit place. Although we camped and used our 4WD, you can also stay in more luxury accommodation or even just catch the barge for a day trip over.

Address - Stradbroke island (straddie) 1 hour 30 from Brisbane Highlights - seeing the wild kangaroos up close, they were so friendly and happy to come close to you and jump around while you sit and eat or just enjoy the sun. Whale watching as it is whale season in east Australia at the minute (June/july) completely free and there are specific spots build specifically for this with a perfect view of the ocean from a high point. Lots of lovely restaurants and bars, locals are really friendly and it’s not too busy! Bus made it really accessible to get around the island, however only run every hour so make sure to check the times. We got a ferry from Cleveland (1 hour train journey from Brisbane city) which was very cheap $20 for a return and took around 25 minutes Rating -10/10 great budget friendly day out
