Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter
When you think of the Bikan Historical Quarter, the name "White Wall Town" is very memorable.
Of course, there are many white-walled buildings, and the streets across the river are lovely, but there's more to it than that!
For example,
the Western-style building behind the bank that was actually in use until a few years ago. The stained crows are beautiful!
There are also many other buildings worth seeing, such as the brick building of Kurashiki Ivy Square on the outskirts of the Bikan Historical Quarter, and the Western-style building of the tourist information center, so be sure to check them out.
When you get tired of walking, we recommend taking out some food from a cute bakery and relaxing by the river!

Katariza Oharamoto Residence (former Ohara family residence)
I'm from the area, but I've never been there, so I went to Katariza Oharamoto Residence, located in the scenic area, which I've been curious about
This is a townhouse where the Ohara family, who developed Kurashiki, lived, and I saw an impressive installation called "Falling Words" on social media, where words left by the Ohara family, Kurashiki's historical businessmen, fall from the ceiling
Not only that, I was surprised at how beautiful the stone pavement and detached tatami room were beyond the dirt floor!
The garden visible from the detached room is a Japanese garden that Ohara Magosaburo was also involved in creating,
and the moss and sunlight filtering through the trees create an indescribable space 🥹
The staggered lock covers in various places on the nageshi are all different in design
The cafe space, where you can drink original blend coffee,
has a diverse collection of about 2,000 books lined up, and the antique furniture is lovely 🥹!

The exterior is a building from the Edo period, and they sell curry rice. I love curry rice, so of course I have to come here to eat it! ! When I arrived, I queued for about ten minutes and was placed at a low tatami table on the second floor where you need to take off your shoes. I ordered the Miyake Curry Set, which is limited to weekdays. In addition to curry rice, it also comes with side dishes, soup, dessert and a drink. This is quite cost-effective. The side dishes of the curry are adjusted according to the season. Overall, I think the taste is okay, not amazing. I think the chiffon cake tastes ordinary.
[Attraction] Kurashiki Bikan area
If it is the cool season, it is a very pleasant attraction. You can sit by the river and watch the geese swimming around. You can also go to the sightseeing center to buy a cruise ticket and experience the cruise. The buildings on both sides of the coast are Kurashikiya, with different shops nearby. There are also attractions such as the Ohara Museum of Art, the Ohashi family residence, and Achi Shrine.
A Relaxing Trip to Kurashiki
It takes about 10 minutes on foot from Kurashiki Station to reach the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. Traditional Japanese houses line the streets, and the sound of the willow trees swaying by the river soothes the soul. There are souvenir shops and restaurants, attracting tourists from all over the country. At 10:00 AM, I visited a sweets shop called Kurashiki Momoko right as it opened and enjoyed a grape parfait. On weekdays, you can likely enter without waiting in line. At night, the main street is dimly lit by street lamps, and the alleys become completely dark, so please be cautious.

The reception desk is on the right side as you enter the lobby (the second photo). The lobby lounge costs 1,000 yen. The amenity buffet has cosmetics, one-piece pajamas, slippers, toothbrushes, etc. These are not available in the rooms, so be sure to remember them if you need them. The reception and rooms are simple, but the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter is nearby, and there are restaurants within walking distance, making it convenient for sightseeing. I would like to stay here again.
*Although it didn't say "included" when I booked on Trip.com, I was able to use the paid lounge for free as it was included in the afternoon tea.
