Step into a Prehistoric World: Suoluo Valley’s Jurassic Park Adventure!
For an unforgettable Jurassic Park-style hike near Leshan, head to Suoluo Valley (桫椤峡谷) - a hidden gem where towering dinosaur-era ferns create a primeval jungle straight out of a Spielberg film. With over 50,000 ancient ferns dating back 200 million years, this lush canyon feels like a lost world waiting to be explored.
Why It’s a Must-Visit:
🌿 Walk Among Giants – Ferns reach up to 11 meters tall with the legendary "King & Queen" trees standing like silent sentinels.
💦 Waterfalls & Wild Trails – Discover Rhinoceros Pool, moss-covered cliffs, and hidden streams.
🦖 Dino Vibes – Keep an eye out for fossilized dinosaur footprints and listen for the echoes of prehistoric life.
Pro Tips for Adventurers:
✔ Route: Start at Gate 1 for the best scenery, hike to Gate 2 (6km, 3-4 hours) to avoid backtracking.
✔ Gear: Wear anti-slip shoes (trails are muddy!) and pack bug spray - mosquitoes love this jungle.
Ready to time-travel? Suoluo Valley is just 1.5 hours from Leshan and 2.5 hours from Chengdu.
P.S. Combine it with a visit to the Leshan Giant Buddha for the ultimate Sichuan adventure! 🚀🌿

Oriental Buddha Capital park in Chengdu
I visited the Oriental Buddha Capital in Leshan on the June.

I recommend visit this place for 3-4 hours minimum.
How to get from Chengdu:
You can go by bus for 1.5 hours. It coins 5 yuan, and the bus come to the entrance to the park.

Different Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area, Tourism Strategy
🔥 Three Core Pitfall-Avoiding Rules
Early Bird Plan (Arrive at North Gate before 7:30)
Golden Time: Enter right at 7:30 when the park opens. Finish the core tour (Buddha’s head + Buddha’s feet) within 2 hours—fewer crowds, cooler temperatures, and almost no lines at photo spots by the Buddha’s head.
Avoid This: Afternoon/holiday visits mean crowds + intense sun. Waiting for the plank road can take 1+ hours.
Stick to “North In, East/South Out” Route
Self-driving: Enter North Gate → Exit East Gate (Parking Lot 6 is closest—see parking tips).
By taxi: Enter North Gate → Exit South Gate (easier to hail a taxi near South Gate).
Pro tip: Head straight for Lingyun Mountain steps first to see the Buddha’s head, then visit the feet. Don’t miss the Tang Dynasty cliff carvings along the way.
Ticket Tips
Official purchase: Use the mini-program “大佛旅游 (Dafo Tourism)”. ¥80/person includes Wuyou Temple and Mahao Cliff Tombs. Night tour of Lingyun Mountain is only ¥9.85.
Avoid scams: Skip “Eastern Buddha Capital + Leshan Giant Buddha” combo tickets sold outside the park—unnecessary if you’re only visiting the Giant Buddha. Politely decline if rushed.
🚗 Transportation & Parking Hacks
Parking Lot 6 trick: Navigate to “Leshan Giant Buddha Parking Lot 6 (Exit 2)”. Walk through a restaurant’s back kitchen, go upstairs—100m to North Gate entrance, just 10m from East Gate exit.
Ferry caution: North Gate ferry terminal closes in dry season. To take a boat, take the scenic area bus from South Gate. Wuyou Temple Terminal is better (fewer people).
📸 Photography Secrets
Skip the crowd at Buddha’s feet: Try the side of the Buddha’s head (fewer people, slimmer angles) or the second deck of a boat for full views (choose Wuyouba Terminal—50% shorter lines).
Hidden Three Rivers Confluence spot: The viewing platform below Moruo Hall—quiet, scenic, and perfect for stunning shots.
🚫 Common Pitfalls to Avoid
Buddha’s feet status: Currently open (check official announcements before your trip).
Boat tour vs hiking: Boat tours (¥70/person) only offe

Day trip to the Leshan Buddha from Xi'an
We recently took the speed train from Xi'an to Leshan to see the Grand Buddha! It cost 80 CNY per person and opted to walk instead of catch the boat so that we could get up and close. Can be very busy so plan your trip accordingly. The greetings are very well kept and nice to wander around, lots of temples and pagodas on site too! All in all a good day out. #leshan #leshanbuddha #china
Leshan: Very cutesy!
Just got back from our day out enjoying the beautiful weather. There’s no excuse for staying indoors and miss out on the autumn sun. Taking a walk along the riverside of Leshan and soaking up the sun was truly rewarding. The warmth of the sun and the views were stunning. We enjoyed our day out and found some cutesy subjects that were worth photographing.
This part of Leshan is highly recommended.

The Oriental Buddha Park - Leshan
The best Oriental Buddha Park I have seen in China so far. Most of the people visit Leshan city to see the stunning Leshan Giant Buddha, but just a few of them know about this amazing attraction.
The Oriental Buddha Park has a breathtaking scenery. It’s full of Buddhist statues, sculptures and stone carvings. Also, it is surrounded by beautiful and peaceful gardens.
I totally recommend to spend at least half day exploring the Oriental Buddha Park and another half day for the Leshan Giant Buddha.

Leshan + GIANT BUDDHA + 71 meters tall!
Wonderful experience in Sichuan. You can take the high-speed train or drive to the location from Chengdu. Be sure to not go on a holiday! There are two parts of the park. The Giant Buddha and the Oriental Buddha Park, and you need to purchase tickets for each. It’s worth going to the 2nd park to see the Pharmacist Buddha, 10,000 Buddhas Cave, and the Lying Down Buddha! Be ready for some stairs, some long lines, and sunshine on days with good weather. I heard the boat tour also has a wonderful view!#LeshanGiantBuddha #Leshan #Sichuan #giantbuddha #awesomepic
Leshan
I have been to Chengdu many times but never had the chance to go to Leshan before this years CNY. I saw the big Buddha firstly from the boat cruise and the next day we walked to get the close up. We managed to get to the head but there was a sign saying the line to go down to see the Buddha was 4 hours because so many people were there for the new year. So we skipped that part. I heard from locals that normally the line is not so bad. After walking to the Buddha head we took the ferry over to the city side for some serious snacking. Leshan have the most amazing food 🤩 and also make sure to try out Buddha Pub, it is run by a Norwegian guy. #yearofrabbit #newyearadventure #china #leshan #sichuan #foodie #bucketlistreboot
Turning up the heat in Chengdu!🔥🔥🌶️🌶️
#yearofrabbit
City 2/3 in our #lunarnewyear travels was Chengdu! 🐼🌶️🎭
Chengdu has many local trademarks, which makes it a great city for exploration! When in Chengdu, every tourist should make time to:
1. See the pandas! 🐼🎋
2. Watch a face-changing performance at a tea house🍵🎭
3. Try Sichuan’s spicy cuisine, more specifically, hotpot!!! 🥘🌶️🔥
Our mouths were burning from the spicy flavors (you can see a photo of how RED the broth is from all of the peppers and spicy oil!) we had to buy several cups of milk tea 🧋 to get us through the meal. 😅
Face changing shows are a big part of local culture, and so entertaining! It’s kind of like a kung-fu meets magic show, where the performer will change his opera mask in the literal blink of an eye! 🪄🦹🏻🔮🎭
The panda park was also super interesting and educational. It was really cool to learn about how they are protecting this endangered species. 🐼
Last (but not least!!) the Leshan Big Buddha. Built over 1200 years ago, this magnificent sculpture hand crafted by dedicated Buddhist monks was breathtaking to say the least. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site, man-made marvel, and something you should definitely put on your bucket list!!
If you get the chance to go to Chengdu, GO!! 😆 We loved this city, and definitely plan to return.❤️

Sketching Leshan Buddha
Best option is to get a hotel nearby if it's not a daily trip. We had lucky to be in one small hotel with personal valley service. Parking is convenient and cheap on spot. Go in the afternoon just before sunset. Once you buy tickets, pass gate and 20-30mins of climbing. During summer with hot weather and humidity isn't so fun. Cicadas doesn't make it any easier. Also, some of places inside were closed like Cave-Thomb-Museum and food vendors. Carving this amazing statue is really mesmerizing. Plenty of time to do some selfies. Make sure you bring water and snacks. Left side was closed, but looked interesting with some small openings in rocks. Have fun.

Leshan Giant Buddha and the Sleeping Buddha
Getting There - by car 2.5 hrs from Chengdu
Attractions - The gigantic Leshan Giant Buddha is a man-made sculpture was built more than 1200 years ago to worship the God and save people from the regular floods of the area. Once you visit Chengdu it is a must-see site. You can choose to hike up the mountain and climb the stairs to see the view from the mountain or go by boat to see the whole sculpture. There is another Buddha formed by the hills surrounding the sculpture called the Sleeping Buddha that contains Leshan Buddha exactly located at the left armpit. Like people believe he was born from.

Giant Buddha near Chengdu - Must Visit
#createwithtrip to Chengdu must include a day to visit the Giant Buddha at Leshan.
The Buddha is a 71m tall stone statue, built during the 8th Century (Tang Dynasty), facing Mount Emei, with the min River and Dadu River flowing below its feet. It is the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world.
To get there, best to hire a car for a day. Prepare for a large crowd as it is a very popular tourist site. Queue system is in place and normal wait time to get to the top of the statue is 60-120 mins wait. Follow the crowd, to work your way from the top of the statue and eventually get to the feet of the statue.

Pandas and much more …
Chengdu is most famous for pandas and spicy food and it really doesn’t disappoint. The pandas are beyond adorable with the city filled with panda related merchandise. Sichuan cuisine is a must to try. For something to do during the evening try the Sichuan opera, the changing faces is unique.
Do not leave Chengdu without visiting the Leshan Giant Buddha, although far from the city it’s an incredible 71metre tall stone statue built during the Tang Dynasty #chengdu #sichuan #sichuannature #panda #pandas #mountemei #leshan #buddha #opera #food #mountain
