Piz Gloria at the summit of Schilthorn got its name from a James Bond novel and is well known as the film location for the 1969 Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". In addition to Spy World museum, a new and larger exhibition, called "007 Walk of Fame", was opened in July 2015 on the Schilthorn ridge to pay tribute to the cast and behind-the-scenes contributors to the iconic James Bond movie. The Walk of Fame consists of 15 information panels featuring George Lazenby, who played James Bond in the film, and members of the film crew. Each panel features a photo, signature, handprint in steel and a personal message. Walking on the ridge was quite a challenge especially during winter due to the strong wind and heavy snow. After a long 2.5-hour journey to the Schilthorn summit from Interlaken train station, we were greeted by spectacular alpine scenery straight out of postcards. At the summit, Piz Gloria stands 2,970 metres above sea level surrounded by more than 200 alpine peaks. Walk out of the building to Skyline View platform, which is an outdoor observation deck that provides a 360-degree view of the Swiss Alps. It's an excellent vantage point for taking in the stunning landscapes of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. I had the opportunity to walk on an alpine ridge during my visit to Schilthorn. Gunten Pier is one of the most beautiful piers that I have been to. The pier offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the lake, and is a popular spot for boat cruises, fishing, and relaxation. We found this hidden gem by chance after visiting the Panorama bridge Sigriswil as we wanted to try the ferry ride on Lake Thun, the largest lake in the Bernese Oberland. We took bus 25 from Sigriswil and alighted at Gunten Dorf. The pier is a short walk away from the bus stop. It can also be reached by taking bus 25 from Thun or bus 21 from either Interlaken or Thun train station. Check the ferry schedule in advance. One of the best bell towers I have climbed is in Ponta Delgada. We visited the bell tower at my nephew's request, and it turned out to be one of the top attractions on São Miguel Island. Standing at 29.6 meters, the bell tower was built in 1724 and reopened in 2013 after being closed for several years. If you are physically fit, you should not miss the chance to climb it, as it offers spectacular 360° views of the city from the top. After visiting the Panorama bridge Sigriswil, we took the ferry from Gunten Dorf nearby back to Thun across the beautiful Lake Thun, the largest lake in the Bernese Oberland. The two-hour boat trip on Lake Thun starts from Interlaken West, stopping at 10 jetties before ending at Thun. You can hop on the boat at any jetty as long as the timing is right. There is a restaurant on board which serves Swiss cuisine. If you don't feel like eating, you can just sit around while enjoying the stunning views of green meadows, forests and Swiss Alps beyond. We stayed a few nights in Därligen, a peaceful and beautiful small town at the south shore of Lake Thun 6 km from Interlaken. The only way to reach our accommodation by public transport is taking bus 60 from either Interlaken or Spiez train station, which departs at a regular interval of 30 min. Waking up to the stunning views of Lake Thun made our stay worthwhile despite the slight inconvenience in transportation. I chanced upon Bukit Burung on Google map while researching for places I want my guide to bring me to on motorbike. It is located further up the hill about 15 minutes ride by motorcycle from the hot spring in Aek Rangat. Apparently this lookout point is not very well-known among the local people. My guide asked a few locals along the way and no one has heard of Bukit Burung before. Eventually I brought my guide who was born and bred in Samosir to a place that he has never been to! If I remember correctly there is no signboard at the junction leading to the lookout point so it's quite easy to miss it. From the junction we followed the rough stony path till the end and we were awarded with a beautiful view of Samosir Island and a small inhabited island called Pulau Tulas in Lake Toba. Hallasan is the highest mountain in South Korea, located on Jeju Island. There are a few stunning hiking trails to explore this beautiful volcanic mountain. We chose Yeongsil Trail which is of moderate difficulty level and does not require a permit. The trail leads hikers through lush forests and offers spectacular views of the island and beyond. However it does not lead to the summit and also the crater lake. It was challenging enough for us who did not have proper hiking gears but thankfully we managed to complete the trail in 5.5 hours.
