If you like a challenging hike, the Old Kotor Fort Trail from Kotor old town up to the Old Fort is for you! It’s definitely not an easy hike with almost 600 m of elevation and many steps but the views on the way up and from the top are well worth it. When you reach the top the views over Kotor Bay and Kotor town are stunning. I recommend starting early in the morning before the ticket office opens 😉. When you come to Kotor, of course you have to walk around the city wall. There are actually two ways to climb to the highest part. The first is to walk along the city wall to the highest point, but this costs 15 Euros. Another free and interesting route is to climb through a small window and then bend down to get into that position. Both methods allow you to see the entire town and some historical heritage, such as the remains of St John Castle. This time I chose the free route because I found it challenging and part of it was of course to save money! It takes 1.5 hours to reach the highest point, where you can see the entire town and part of the bay. The weather was very good that day and we even saw the sunset! A very fulfilling day! The Old Town of Kotor is one of the few ancient towns in the Mediterranean that has preserved its complete defense system.
