Olbia, the port city of Sardinia
Olbia is located in the province of Sassari, in the north of Sardinia, Italy, the second largest island in the Mediterranean. The name of the city originated in Greek. It was called Olbia in Roman times, Civita in the Middle Ages, Terranova in the 1940s, and Olbia was restored after World War II.
Although the name is of Greek origin, according to archaeological findings, the city of Olbia was first settled by the Nuragic or Phoenician peoples due to the presence of Greeks in the seventh century BC. It contains remains from the Nuracian era to the Roman era, when it was an important port, and in the Middle Ages, it was the capital of Galluras, one of the four independent states of Sardinia at the time. During the First Punic War, the Romans fought the Carthaginians and Sardinians near Olbia, where the Roman general Hanno was killed.
Although Olbia is not a tourist city today, it is a port city for traveling to mainland Italy, with ships sailing back and forth every day.
I usually like to choose a night boat and arrive early the next morning. For tourists, this saves a lot of time. And no matter what season it is, as long as it is a sunny day, you can watch the sunrise here, which may be a rare scene in your life. #italy #history #overseas travel #mediterranean #European travel #European tourism #ferry #sunrise #medieval #port #sea view
Molde, Møre Romsdal County, Norway
Molde is a city in Møre-Lømsdal county, Norway. The city is located on the Molde Fjord and the Molde River. It is the largest city and commercial center in the Lømsdal region and the administrative center of Molde City and Møre-Lømsdal County. The Church of Norway's Diocese of Molde is also based in Molde Cathedral.
Molde is an old settlement that became a trading post in the late Middle Ages. Formal trading rights as a shipping port were granted in 1614, and town status was established by royal charter in 1742. Molde Municipality was established on 1 January 1838.
Molde continued to develop throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, becoming the centre of Norway's textile and clothing industry, as well as the region's administrative centre and a major tourist destination, passing through the Atlantic Coast Road.
Molde Airport in the north of the city may be the closest airport to a road in the world, and "close" is really not an adjective to describe this airport. #Overseas travel #Norway travel #Norway tourism #Norway scenery #Norway fjords #I miss Norway so much #Ferry #Outdoor activities #Airplane #norway #molde
Xuwen Port, the world's largest passenger and cargo ro-ro terminal
In October 2020, Xuwen Port, the world's largest passenger and cargo roll-on/roll-off terminal built by Guangdong Shipping Group, was officially opened. It is a port that is a comprehensive transportation hub integrating railways, waterways and highways. The first phase of the project has a designed annual throughput capacity of 3.2 million vehicles and 17.28 million passengers, with a total investment of approximately RMB 1.712 billion. The car has an elevator which is very advanced.
Starting from Xuwen Port, the sea voyage between Haikou and Hainan can be shortened by half, and it only takes 1 hour to reach Hainan, while it previously took 2-3 hours. You can book tickets directly through WeChat or purchase them directly at the pier. The frequency is very high, with one basically every half an hour. During the lunch rush hour, there is one at 10 o'clock, so it is very convenient to drive across the sea. The fare for one car + one driver is around RMB 450 🥳🥳
