Half-Day Visit to Qingdao
A Half-Day Visit to St. Michael’s Church and Tsingtao Brewery in Qingdao 🇨🇳 (Apr 2025)
During a half-day visit in Qingdao, we spent the morning exploring the St. Michael’s Church area and its surroundings, followed by an afternoon at the Tsingtao Brewery. The weather was ideal for walking—pleasant spring temperatures ranging between 18 to 20°C, though the occasional spring breeze added a slight chill to the air.
St. Michael’s Church, one of Qingdao’s most iconic landmarks, is a prominent example of German Roman Catholic architecture in China. Completed in 1934 during the period of German colonial influence, the church’s twin towers and light yellow façade stand out against the blue sky. The area around the church features cobblestone streets and a calm, almost European atmosphere. A few western-style cafés and small gift shops line the streets, inviting visitors to take a break and enjoy a coffee or browse local souvenirs. The combination of European architectural elements and the relaxed ambiance makes the area pretty charming.
After that, we visited the Tsingtao Brewery museum, another historical site that highlights Qingdao’s German colonial past. Founded in 1903 by German settlers, Tsingtao Brewery is one of China’s oldest and most internationally recognized beer brands. The brewery museum offers a look into the early brewing techniques introduced by the Germans, as well as the company’s evolution over the decades. We saw vintage brewing equipment, advertisements from different eras, and learn about the fermentation and bottling processes. The tour ends with a tasting session, where we sampled fresh brews directly from the source - normal and light versions.

Tsingtao and Tsingtao Brewery
The city's name in Chinese translates literally means "azure island". Most people knows Tsingtao from a beer.
This beer museum is definitely a place to visit for everyone, even if you don't drink much beer. But don't get distracted by the nearby restaurants they can be pricy for tourists.

Tsingtao Brewery Experience 🍻
Tickets were reasonably priced and were available on arrival. I had the option of getting a tour guide or exploring the brewery and museum by myself. I spent the day doing a lot of walking. Make sure you’re dressed comfortably, have a snack and water! There was much to read and learn about the history of Tsingtao. I ended the tour with a free Tsingtao beer and purchasing merchandise from their souvenir store. A truly memorable experience … even if you don’t usually drink beer. #china #qingdao #tsingtao #beer
Christmas market in Tsingtao
The atmosphere is so nice going to Christmas! Especially when you go to the Christmas market, the dispatch is so warm and delicious. Much better than the Bangshaw! Make sure to stop by and try it

Tsingtao 1908
Within MixC mall in Qingdao downtown, you find a great restaurant where most it’s dishes are made from beer. Tsingtao beer 🍺 was created in 1908, over 110 years of exploring new recipes of malta.
One on one beer set gives you a taste of six different types of beer (IPA, dark beer, wheat beer) so you decide which one you prefer. My favorite by far was the grilled beef served in stones and flamed with beer. Seafood dish was also nice and spicy, maybe bigger than expected.
