Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art: A Masterpiece of Architectural Fusion! 🎨🏛️
#summervacay
I just visited the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, and it truly is a must-see in Kyoto, not just for its exhibitions, but for its stunning architecture.
Built in 1933, it holds the distinction of being Japan's oldest existing public art museum building. What makes it so captivating is its unique aesthetic, where a Western-style design, accentuated with warm wooden details, blends seamlessly with modern and mid-century architectural elements. The grand spiral staircase and strategic use of negative space contribute to its captivating fusion of styles.
The building itself is a major draw, and thankfully, its public areas are free to visit, allowing everyone to appreciate its beauty. I was even lucky enough to catch a Takashi Murakami exhibition during my visit and loved capturing the focused expressions of fellow art lovers!
Visiting Information:
Location: Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art (京都市京セラ美術館)
Operating Hours: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Tickets: I found that I could buy them on-site.
Amenities: The first floor offers convenient luggage storage and a cafe.
It was truly an enriching experience, celebrating both the art within and the art of the building itself.

⛩️ Tranquil Visit to Historic Hakusan Shrine – Niigata
Hakusan Shrine is a gem of serenity tucked away in Niigata, rich in history and traditional charm. The moment we arrived, we were drawn to its beautiful architectural design, which showcases classic Japanese craftsmanship at its finest.
Like many shrines we’ve visited in Japan, Hakusan Shrine exuded a calming and peaceful atmosphere—something that never fails to soothe the soul. Despite the rain during our visit, the experience was still memorable. In fact, the light drizzle gave the entire place a gentle, mystical feel.
One of the highlights was the lovely garden within the shrine grounds, which added a touch of natural beauty to the spiritual setting. It would have been even more enjoyable on a sunny day, but we still appreciated the views and ambience.
Parking facilities were available, making access to the shrine convenient.
If you’re in Niigata, Hakusan Shrine offers a serene and culturally enriching stop, perfect for quiet reflection or simply admiring a slice of Japanese heritage.

Kinkaku-ji, also known as the Golden Pavilion, is one of Kyoto’s most famous and stunning landmarks. This Zen Buddhist temple is renowned for its top two floors completely covered in gold leaf, which beautifully reflect on the surrounding pond, creating a breathtaking scene.
Originally built in 1397 as a retirement villa for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, Kinkaku-ji later became a temple according to his wishes. The temple’s architecture blends traditional Japanese design with the dazzling luxury of gold, symbolizing both spiritual and worldly beauty.
Visitors stroll along peaceful paths through beautifully maintained gardens, enjoying views of the pavilion from various angles. The shimmering reflection of Kinkaku-ji on Kyoko-chi (Mirror Pond) is especially iconic, often photographed throughout the year, from snowy winters to lush summers.
Besides the Golden Pavilion itself, the temple complex includes a tea garden and small exhibition halls, offering insight into Japanese culture and history. Kinkaku-ji is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and remains a symbol of Kyoto’s rich heritage.

Known as the “Carp Castle,” this stunning reconstruction rises from the heart of Hiroshima with quiet strength. Originally built in the 1590s, it was destroyed in 1945 — but rebuilt with care, it now tells the story of feudal lords, samurai culture, and resilience.
Surrounded by a peaceful moat and centuries-old trees, the grounds are perfect for a reflective walk, especially during cherry blossom season. Inside, the museum offers a glimpse into Hiroshima’s pre-war history and life under the rule of powerful clans.
