🏔️ Shirakawa-go – A Timeless Village That Took My Breath Away
I hadn’t originally planned to visit Shirakawa-go, but I’m so glad I listened to a friend who insisted it was worth the trip. And they were absolutely right—this UNESCO World Heritage site is nothing short of magical.
The moment we arrived, we were greeted by stunning views of the traditional thatched-roof houses set against a backdrop of lush mountains. The entire village feels like a postcard—incredibly picturesque and rich in history. Every corner offered a photo opportunity, and we couldn’t stop snapping away.
What really amazed me was the architecture of the gassho-zukuri houses. These wooden homes were built without a single nail, yet they’ve stood the test of time for centuries. The steep, hand-crafted roofs are designed to withstand heavy snowfall, and it’s honestly impressive how much thought and engineering went into these humble-looking structures.
Whether you’re into photography, culture, or simply enjoying beautiful landscapes, Shirakawa-go has a peaceful charm that leaves a lasting impression.
Verdict:
Unexpected, unforgettable. If you’re on the fence, just go. It’s a rare place where tradition, nature, and ingenuity come together so beautifully.

Where Two Worlds Collide – My Visit to the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba
#summervacay #MosqueCathedralCordoba #MezquitaCordoba #CordobaSpain #UNESCOSite #AndalusiaHeritage #HistoricArchitecture #IslamicArt #SpanishCathedrals #CulturalFusion #TravelSpain
Walking into the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba (La Mezquita) was surreal—a masterpiece where Islamic and Christian architecture intertwine under one roof. I visited in the morning, and stepping into the vast hall of red-and-white striped arches felt like entering a different world. It was calm, quiet, and utterly breathtaking.
The original mosque columns and horseshoe arches stretch out endlessly, creating a forest of stone that pulls you into history. Right in the center, the Christian cathedral rises, richly decorated and beautifully preserved. The contrast is stunning—and instead of clashing, the two styles complement each other in a way that feels completely unique.
It’s not just a building—it’s a timeline made of stone, a living reminder of Córdoba’s layered past. I took my time walking through the halls, looking up at the domes and soaking in the quiet grandeur. A must-see that leaves you in awe.
Travel Tips & How to Get There:
• Best time to visit:
• Early morning for fewer crowds and soft light coming through the arches.
• How to get there:

• Easily accessible on foot from most attractions or by taxi from the train station.
• Tips:
• Book tickets online if you’re visiting in peak season.
• Don’t rush—take time to admire the arches and domes from different angles.
• Look out for the Mihrab, a stunning remnant of the mosque era.

🏰 Romantic Taishō Era Elegance at Bansuisō, Matsuyama
Our stroll beneath Matsuyama Castle led us to Bansuisō, an unexpected gem tucked amid the city’s bustle. Built in 1922 for Count Hisamatsu—who spent 15 years in France—the villa exudes European Romanticism with a distinctive blend of Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau styles.
Entering through a modest gate and winding up a leafy path, we found ourselves in a charming forested courtyard. The exterior details are stunning: Corinthian columns at the entrance, a steep natural slate roof topped with copper, and even gold coins once melted into the lightning rod!
Inside, the rooms are modest in size but rich in character. Moldings, chandeliers, fireplaces—all beautifully preserved—create that vintage Parisian-meets-Japan ambiance. We climbed to the second floor (a small fee), and from the balcony, the villa looked like a dollhouse nestled in leafy surroundings—great for photos.
Though parts of the villa function as exhibition space today, what captivated us most was the timeless serenity, which is probably why it hosts music recitals, art exhibits, and even weddings. The basement restroom, updated with Victorian elegance yet modern comfort, was an unexpected delight.
If you love architecture, history, or just peaceful hideaways, Bansuisō is worth a visit—especially after wandering the castle grounds. It’s a quiet slice of European-style elegance without leaving Matsuyama.

🛕A Spiraling Journey Through Time – The Wonder of Sazaedo Temple
We visited Sazaedo Temple during our trip to Aizu-Wakamatsu, and it turned out to be one of the most unique and memorable experiences of our journey through Japan.
Constructed entirely of wood back in 1796, Sazaedo is a true architectural wonder. Its most fascinating feature is its double-helix structure, where you ascend and descend without ever crossing paths with anyone walking in the opposite direction. It’s clever, peaceful, and symbolic—designed to let worshippers pray without disruption. Even by modern standards, the design feels incredibly advanced.
What made this temple even more special is the fact that it’s never been rebuilt. Walking through it, you really feel like you’re stepping into a piece of living history. The creaking of the floorboards, the smell of aged timber, and the traces of those who’ve walked before us all add to the atmosphere. In fact, this is said to be the only wooden double-helix structure of its kind in the world.
Historically, pilgrims would walk through to pray at the 33 Kannon statues, and as proof of their visit, they’d paste a personal label with their family name on the walls or ceiling—a bit like the Edo period’s version of “I was here.” You can still see many of those old labels, and while the tradition continues today, the temple staff kindly ask visitors not to stick anything outside of the designated areas to help preserve the original wood.
What I loved most about Sazaedo is that you don’t need to understand Japanese to appreciate it. The whole experience is physical, visual, and intuitive. It’s perfect for families, curious travelers, and history buffs alike. You’re not just visiting a temple—you’re walking through centuries of devotion and ingenuity, wrapped up in one wooden spiral.

A Slow Day at Sorakuen Garden🌴
#cityplaybook
Tucked away in the heart of Kobe, Sorakuen Garden is a peaceful retreat filled with seasonal beauty and rich history. Known for its stunning sotetsu (cycad) trees, this traditional Japanese garden offers a serene escape from the city’s bustle.
As you stroll through the grounds, you’ll find the Former Kodera Stable, a Western-style wooden structure from the Meiji era that once housed horses for a noble family. Nearby is the elegant Former Hassam Residence, a preserved Western house that blends beautifully into the Japanese landscape—highlighting the East-meets-West character of Kobe.
Why I recommend this place:
・It’s a hidden gem in central Kobe where you can enjoy nature and architecture at once
・The contrast between traditional gardens and historic Western buildings is truly unique

Leaning Tower of Pisa: Italy’s Most Iconic Tilt with Timeless Charm
No trip to Italy is complete without seeing the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa—a marvel of medieval engineering that turned a construction flaw into a global icon. Located in the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), this striking white marble bell tower leans at a curious angle that defies gravity and draws millions of visitors each year.
Built over 199 years starting in the 12th century, the tower began tilting shortly after construction due to soft ground beneath its foundation. Today, it’s perfectly stabilized and safe to climb, offering breathtaking panoramic views from the top. Whether you’re snapping a playful photo from the ground or ascending its spiral staircase, the experience is unforgettable.
Surrounded by Pisa Cathedral, the Baptistery, and manicured green lawns, the Leaning Tower offers not just history, but a scenic and serene atmosphere. It’s a must-see for architecture enthusiasts, families, and curious travelers alike.
📍 Address: Piazza del Duomo, Pisa, Italy
💴 Average Price per Person: €20 (tower climb); free to explore the square

Exploring St. Peter’s Cathedral and Its Surroundings
If you’re visiting the city on a nice day, St. Peter’s Cathedral is a great place to walk to from the city centre. This is usually a destination that doesn’t often appear in travel guides. The walk itself is pleasant, allowing you to soak in the local architecture and atmosphere before arriving at this stunning cathedral.
Unlike the grand and intricate interior of St. Anne’s Cathedral in the city center, St. Peter’s Cathedral has a different kind of majesty. Its architecture is impressive both up close and from a distance, thanks to its relatively open surroundings. Unlike some landmarks that can be obscured by nearby buildings, this cathedral stands prominently, making it an excellent spot for photography and admiration.
One of the best parts? It’s free to enter! This makes it an easy and worthwhile stop, whether you’re on a budget or simply looking for a quiet, beautiful place to explore. The peaceful atmosphere inside adds to the experience, making it a great place to take a break from the city’s hustle and bustle.
If you’re a fan of historical architecture, I am sure it’s a good place to visit

Colourful hidden gem in Taipei ✨
#historicplaces Fengtian Temple is a hidden gem at the foot of Tiger Mountain in Taipei’s Xinyi District. This beauty is tucked in the greenery and doesn’t fail to impress with its stunning architecture and vivid colourful carvings. The Heavenly Emperor is the main deity of the temple which is also knows as “The Temple of Heaven”. It is believed that an ancestor who resided in a cave of the mountain, worshipped the Heavenly Emperor and other deities before the cave mangled during Japanese colonisation. As such, the temple was reconstructed in 1922.
When I arrived, I was surprised to witness such a peaceful atmosphere. A few people were holding their burning incense and praying near the altar. The temple has a second floor from which you can have a view of the district, spot the famous Taipei 101 Tower and have a closer look at the intricate carvings. It felt so serene that I unexpectedly spent an hour staring at the view with a gentle breeze blowing my hair away. I wandered at the back of the temple and found what seems to be a hiking trail on the hill. If you plan to visit Taiwan, please add this hidden gem to your bucket list 🙏 The access to the temple was free.

One of the temples you can visit in Semarang. Sam Poo Kong is not quite far from the city. I really love the buildings. It’s really beautiful and colorful. The ticket price is around USD 1 each but if you want to enter all the temple the ticket should be twice as much. Multiracial issue is not appeared here at all. You can learn about Cheng Ho and his journey to Indonesia. I love the way it stands on the main area of the temples. It has both Chinese and Javanese culture. People who come here are not supposed to pray only, but also do the bigger thinks.
