The architecture of Machu Picchu is a classic example of Inca style, with three well-preserved structures: the Intihuatana (Sun Stone), the Temple of the Sun, and the Temple of the Three Windows. There is also an unrestored section that allows visitors to see the site as it was when first discovered. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Machu Picchu is classified as both a cultural and natural heritage site. However, the site faces challenges from tourism-related damage. There are three routes to explore the area; during my first visit, I took the lower city route and didn’t reach the summit—a small regret that motivates me to return.

During the Inca period, this place was a royal estate, granary and sacrificial center. This is also a military fortress. When Spain conquered Peru, the rebels took advantage of the terrain and released water from high places to flood the plains, thus repelling the Spaniards. Although the victory was short-lived, it left a legend for Ollantaytambo. Climb up the stairs to the top of the castle, and you can see the entire town of Ollantaytambo. The former granary on the opposite mountain and two rock walls that resemble human faces are clearly visible. However, we can still get a glimpse of it from its physical properties, and we sincerely admire the wisdom of the ancient Incas. The concentric terraces were built in a basin with a height difference of 30 meters and a temperature difference of 15°C. The geographical location, sunlight and wind direction are cleverly combined, with a water conservancy system that fully utilizes the terrain. One cannot help but suspect that this was all carefully calculated. The concentric terraces seen from the observation deck have been restored. Along the trail, there are two smaller, unrestored original concentric terraces. Because I was traveling with a tour group and had limited time, I didn’t go to see the third one. Pisac Ruins, located about 33 kilometers from Cusco, Peru, are situated near the town of Pisac on a mountaintop and cover a vast area. A thorough exploration requires half a day. I joined a local tour, which was time-limited but provided fascinating historical insights and interesting anecdotes. The site features houses built along the mountain, with stone walls and thatched roofs, exuding a strong sense of history. The small cavities on the mountain walls were once burial sites for commoners during the Inca period. The semi-circular terraces extending from the mountain down into the valley are truly spectacular. Hundreds of years ago, the Incas cultivated these terraces, but since being designated as a national cultural heritage site, they are now protected and no longer used for farming. From the mountaintop, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the beautiful valley, creating unforgettable memories.

Daxiangguo Temple is a large religious temple among the existing ancient buildings in Kaifeng. It has a very long history. The blogger will not talk much about its origin here.
