Xujiahui Catholic Church is also known as the Cathedral of St. Ignatius. St. Ignatius is said to be one of the founders of the Society of Jesus in 1534. Christianity was introduced to China as far back as 645, but it seems it did not take root. 900 years later, in 1549, Jesuit Francis Xavier introduced Christianity to Japan, but he also aspired to spread Christianity in China, the source of Japanese culture, and attempted to enter mainland China, but passed away unsuccessfully. Matteo Ricci (Rimadou) was sent to carry on his wish, and after much hardship, he was granted an audience with the Ming Emperor in 1601. This time I will report on “Sainte-Chapelle” on the Ile de la Cité⛪️✨ I made an online reservation in advance just to be safe, but when I arrived 10 minutes before my reservation time, there was a huge line.
