A magical castle in the heart of the city
Cardiff castle is a grade 1 listed building in the heart of downtown Cardiff, one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. The castle is set in the grounds of Bute Park which offers a a peaceful break from the city, with the historical castle offering a beautiful contrast to the modern developments around it.
The original castle was built in the 11th century on top of an old Roman fort, however the castle gained its fame after the work done under the eye of the Marquess of Bute.
The castle has impressive ground with stunning interiors, the high vantage points give amazing views of Cardiff and enable you to see the coast all the way to the mountains.
There is an entrance fee for the Castle grounds, museum and interiors but they are worth it. There are on site cafes and snack bars and plenty of local options within a five minute walk

Welcome to the largest castle in the world!
What do you think of when you hear about knights of the realm and beautiful castles? Do you think of something from a Disney film?
Well, this is the reality at Malbork Castle, a beautiful castle located in North-Eastern Poland that is located only 30 minutes away from the popular tourist city of Gdańsk. If you’re in Gdańsk, it is definitely worth doing a day trip to visit this Castle. This castle contains so many secrets! Did you know that this is the largest castle in the world by land area?!?
The castle dates back to the 13th century, and it has everything that you would expect from a Castle dating back to the Middle Ages. You’ll find drawbridges, gates, moats and secret passageways within the confines of this building.
This Castle was built as a Castle for the Teutonic Knights. A group of knights who fought in the Crusades - fighting for land in Jerusalem and also to build hospitals. The knights still exist today, but as a charity rather than as a military institution.
We visited the Castle on a Monday, which meant that the indoor areas of the Castle weren’t open. But there was more than enough to see in the outdoor area, otherwise known as the Green Route. Entry was 30 złoty, or about £6, and for this price, you could get a free audio guide included. Definitely well worth a trip!

Szigliget, calm, nice, pleasant
Szigliget is a small, quiet village on the northern shore of Lake Balaton.
This is the only village on the shores of Lake Balaton that cannot be reached by train.
Despite this, there were people, most of them by car. I arrived by bus.
There is a small port, a beach, a castle ruin, a palace with arboretum and a look-out tower.
From the lookout, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Balaton and the interestingly formed mountain called Badacsony.
Be careful in the evening the last bus leaves at around 7 pm.

Edinburgh Castle: Stepping into a Living History Book! 🏰🏴
#summervacay
Walking up the sloping Royal Mile towards Edinburgh Castle, I felt as if I was stepping straight into a weighty history book. The cobblestones underfoot whispered with a faint sound, an echo, perhaps, of countless footsteps that have trod this path over hundreds of years. Buildings steeped in medieval charm lined the street as I ascended towards the fortress perched majestically on volcanic rock. Edinburgh Castle stands there like a timeless guardian, awaiting visitors atop the city.
Upon entering the castle, the very first sight that truly made me pause was the impressive row of cannons facing the city at the Argyle Battery. These cannon muzzles pointed resolutely towards the horizon, offering a panoramic view that stretched all the way to the vast Firth of Forth. It truly felt as if they were still diligently safeguarding the city's tranquility. What an immersive and powerful experience!

Windsor | Windsor Castle: Skip "The Long Walk" Unless You're a Dedicated Hiker! 🚶♀️🏰
#summervacay
If you're planning a trip to Windsor and aren't specifically aiming for an intense, long-distance trek, I'd strongly advise against seeking out "The Long Walk"! 😩
Seriously, who understands the misery of hiking 2 kilometers, being unable to find a taxi, and just feeling utterly exhausted and defeated? Take it from me, just stick to exploring within Windsor town itself – it's absolutely charming and has plenty to offer without the extra physical exertion. You'll find lovely shops, quaint streets, and fantastic views of the castle without the need for an epic march.

Manchester Day Trip: Powis Castle! 🏰🌳
#summervacay
Wales truly is incredibly beautiful! 🏴
Powis Castle is managed by the National Trust. Recently, they had a free event in partnership with "In Your Area," so I chose Powis Castle, which was within a 2-hour drive from where I was. This place isn't huge, and while there are many small hills around, they are all private property, so you can only explore the Castle and its Gardens – no hiking outside the grounds.
Getting There:
By Train: Get off at Welshpool station, then it's about a 30-minute walk.
By Car: You can drive directly to the Castle's parking lot, and there are plenty of spaces available. 🚗
Tickets:
The Ticket Office is right next to the parking lot where you can pick up maps.
Even for free tickets (like the one from the partnership), you need to scan your QR code there to exchange it for an actual ticket.
Both the Castle and the Garden require ticket checks upon entry.

Arundel Castle Day Trip
Castle day trip! Beautiful castle and castle grounds with pretty gardens. Flowers are in bloom for the Spring season. The rose garden smells especially lovely whenever there is a breeze. Short walk about 15-20 mins from Arundel train station. There is a cafeteria and coffee shop in the castle for food and drinks. The town centre has some shops but they close pretty early (many closed before 6pm).

peace.joy.hope.love.faith.eats Fairytale Views Above the Danube: Morning at Fisherman’s Bastion
#summervacay #europe #sunnyday #castle
High above the blue ribbon of the Danube, Fisherman’s Bastion rises like a dream from Budapest’s Castle Hill. With its ivory-white turrets, sweeping staircases, and panoramic terraces, this neo-Gothic lookout is less a fortress and more a fantasy—offering one of Europe’s most breathtaking city views.
Arriving at sunrise, I watched the Parliament dome catch the first golden rays, mirrored in the river’s gentle ripples. The bastion’s whimsical architecture frames Budapest like an open-air gallery. Built to honor the medieval guild of fishermen who once defended this section of the wall, it now guards something else: beauty.
Travel Tips:
• How to Get There: Take the Castle Hill Funicular or Bus 16 from Deák Ferenc tér; a short walk leads to the bastion.
• Best Time to Visit: Early morning for crowd-free photos and soft light.
• Entry Info: Most terraces are free; upper towers require a small fee (~1000 HUF).
Pro Tip: Pair your visit with breakfast at the nearby Halászbástya Restaurant for coffee with a skyline view—Budapest served on a silver platter. Stay long enough, and you’ll hear the city begin to hum beneath you.

Nottingham Castle, A Fascinating Journey Through Nottingham’s History.
#nottinghamtrip#museums#castle
I visited Nottingham Castle two months ago, and it was an enriching and extraordinary experience. The site has been impressively renovated, blending its rich historical roots with modern interactive exhibitions. The views from the castle grounds were stunning, offering panoramic scenes of the city below.
The highlight for me was the Robin Hood exhibition, which was both informative and entertaining. It gave a deeper insight into the legendary figure and how he’s been represented through the centuries. The cave tours beneath the castle were also fascinating, adding an adventurous and memorable element to the visit.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and
the on-site café was a nice spot to relax with a good selection of snacks and drinks. The only downside was the entrance fee, which felt a bit steep, especially for families, but overall, it was worth it for the experience.
Whether you’re a history lover or just looking for a scenic and cultural afternoon in Nottingham, the castle is well worth a visit.
⏩ 🎫 The Nottingham Castleadmission tickets cost £15 per adult, with children 15 years & under going free. A booking fee is also added to the price, and tickets purchased online available.
⏩ 🕙 The castle is open daily, including weekends, bank holidays, and school holidays, except for Christmas. The Museum and Gallery are open from 10am to 5pm daily, with last entry at 4pm.

The king of the castle
England is a country that is full of history and there’s few better places to witness that than in its castles and statley homes.
In the heart of Warwickshire lies one of the very best examples of this, Kenilworth castle. First built over 1000 years ago, the building has gone through a dramatic history from a 6 month long siege to the overthrowing of a monarch and the visit of Elizabeth I. It is well worth spending a few hours here to truly feel part of the nations history. #aprilblooms #castle #History

Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the places you should visit in your lifetime!
Neuschwanstein Castle is very different from other castles I have visited in Europe. It is built from a fairy tale dream with medieval designs and lots and lots of money.
The castle does not allow us to take photos inside but when we went inside we could see the chandeliers are made with solid brass and precious gems. The paintings are all with medieval myths. This Castle is also called the “swan castle” because there are lots of swan elements in the castle such as the swan sculpture, the swan pattern on the drapery, swans on the moldings, and swans on the paintings and the custom-made furniture.
This Castle was fascinating and absolutely gorgeous and amazing!
