Winter Trip to Iceland
Spending New Year's in Iceland
Exploring glacier caves, witnessing the Northern Lights, riding Icelandic horses, and enjoying New Year's fireworks—this trip was filled with nature and left me completely satisfied.
I hesitated for a moment, thinking winter might be too cold, but it was absolutely worth it!
There are so many photos I couldn't share here, so I highly recommend taking a tour to fully experience Iceland's stunning nature!
The tours I joined were:
- A 2-night, 3-day East Coast tour
- A 1-night, 2-day Snæfellsnes Peninsula tour
Both were incredibly enjoyable!
Seeing the Northern Lights depends on luck, but I managed to see them on about half of the nights during my stay—three nights in total!
Next time, I want to experience Iceland in the height of summer when the days are long!
[New Zealand] Can you see the Aurora?!
#0yentravelFebruary2025
Wow!!! You can see the Aurora in New Zealand (Queenstown)!
You don't have to go anywhere special, you can see the Aurora from the city. I stayed in New Zealand from July to February, and a friend told me that you can only see it around May, so I gave up, but I was able to see it multiple times in those seven months. So I think you can see it pretty much any time of the year.
When you think of the Aurora, you think of green, but the Aurora in New Zealand is red!
If you go to New Zealand, be sure to check the Aurora forecast! If you're lucky, you might even encounter it...?

Aurora Village
Most visitors to Yellowknife who come to see the Northern Lights will use this facility.
We visited three times and were able to see the Aurora Borealis on all three occasions!
We were especially moved by the mysterious aurora borealis that appeared overhead at the end of the second day.
The Aurora Village is located in an aboriginal settlement 30-40 minutes by bus from the city of Yellowknife, where there are no strong lights around, making it easy to view the aurora borealis.
Visitors can wait in tents called "teepees" until the Aurora Borealis appears. Inside there is a wood stove, hot drinks, and tables and chairs to rest freely.☕️
It was a wonderful experience. Anyone who wants to see the Northern Lights at least once in their lifetime should definitely go!

📍Vikajärvi Lake View Experience Igloos
I spent the night in a glass dome floating on a frozen pond 💎
I couldn't see the Northern Lights, but the shared cottage was cozy and there was plenty of food and drinks, and before I knew it, it was night as I chatted with the other guests 🌙
There's also a BBQ hut and a sauna, so you can warm up your body and mind 🧖🏻♀️
.
As for access, there are several buses from Santa Claus Village per day, so it's best to take one of them 💡
The bus from the airport doesn't run on Sundays, and Uber is about €65, so I was in despair, but then I came across a taxi that would take me for €50 🙏🏻
What's more, on the morning of my check-out, the owner took me to the airport because it was before the first bus 😭
It was early in the morning, but I was so grateful 🥲❤️
.
It was newly built and very beautiful, you can get there by public transport, and it was cheaper than other glass dome accommodations, but there was a lot of free food, so it was a great deal 👌🏻 I recommend it!

Finally, the cafe I've always wanted to go to!
It's so popular that people from inside and outside the prefecture come to visit because of its lovely interior and delicious coffee.

🔖Aurora 600 yen
It's open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, so I thought, "I can go today!"
On this day, it wasn't the owner of R906, but someone who came for a coffee delivery
brewed it with an Aeropress☕️
Iced coffee for my daughter, and Aurora for me✨
Aurora is a beautiful two-layered drink with coffee poured over mango juice and apple juice✨
I tried each one, and they were both delicious! Personally, I want to try Aurora again 🥭
The lemon pound cake made with rice flour by the owner of R906 was also delicious ✨
Next time, I'll enjoy it at the shop 🩷
Thank you for the meal ✨

Whitehorse, Canada
[Whitehorse, Canada]
We went to see the Northern Lights!
When you think of the Northern Lights, you think of Yellowknife, but we heard that you can see them in Whitehorse, which is closer to Vancouver, so we went there.
The temperature was minus 20 degrees Celsius.
We should have gone with heavy equipment, but we went with very light equipment and it was very cold lol
We rented a car and went to see the Northern Lights, but it seemed like not many people came to see them on their own lol
Unfortunately, we couldn't see the Northern Lights explosion, but we were able to see the Northern Lights every night.
I think we were lucky because some people go home without seeing them at all!
If you have the opportunity, please go.
I recommend that you make sure to be well equipped lol

[Over Finland] Aurora from an airplane
This is a photo from when I went to England via Finland.
I had looked it up beforehand and found out that I might be able to see the Northern Lights on the flight to Finland, so I booked seats AB on the plane.
I had a gyudon (beef bowl) at Haneda Airport as my last Japanese meal, but my first meal on the plane was sukiyaki!! It was delicious!!
I was told that the Northern Lights might be visible between 1am and 3am, but before I knew it, I was fast asleep.
The information said that the flight attendant would tell me, but there was no announcement.
I woke up around 2:30am and looked outside, and saw a green haze.
I squinted and it was the Northern Lights!!
I was so happy because I never thought I would be able to see them! The flight attendant even said that it was rare to see them so clearly, and they were so beautiful!
AB seats are recommended for Japan → Finland
EF is recommended for Finland → Japan!
The time is between 1am and 3am! Seeing the Northern Lights in the warmth of a plane is a bit different, but I recommend it!

The Canadian Aurora was amazing
Watching the Aurora in Yellowknife, Canada.
When you think of the Aurora, you think of winter, but you can see it in summer too!
That said, the temperature is only about 15℃, so it's hard to call it summer, but you can watch it outside for a long time, which is great.
Apparently it gets to about -20℃ in winter, so you can't watch it outside for long.
Summer is the best time to see the Aurora!

[Powerful! Aurora in Yellowknife]
📍Yellowknife, Canada
I wanted to see the Aurora once in my life.
Very mysterious, powerful, and above all, with quick movements like a living creature. A fascinating and mysterious space with natural beauty.
🗓2nd week of September 3 days and 2 nights @Chateau Nova Hotel
I applied for the Aurora tour for both nights.
Day 1: Unfortunately, the weather was bad, the Aurora forecast was 3-4/10. Just when I thought the thick clouds had gone, a beautiful harvest moon appeared 🌕 This was also very beautiful and I enjoyed it (lol). As a result, I couldn't see the Aurora at all, so I got on the bus back at 1:55am.
Day 2: The Aurora forecast for the day was 3-5/10. Amazingly, it had already started to appear from the bus heading to Aurora Village, and it was clear by the time we arrived. (At this point, the forecast was 6/10) It gradually became more beautiful and moved, and even the local guide was amazed. We extended our stay and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves until 3:00am.
👀Advice
There were many power outages during our stay. After researching, it seems that this happens regardless of the season, so if you are visiting in winter, we recommend bringing extra hand warmers and sweatshirts.
Even in September, it gets cold at night, close to 0 degrees. (You can stay warm in the triangular tent shown in the photo. Hot drinks are included.) Since you are expected to be outside for a long time, you will be cold to the core and the temperature will feel like -2 degrees. We recommend bringing a long down coat even in midsummer.
This is an experience you will probably not be able to have in Japan, so please come and visit us☺️

"I want to see the aurora at least once in my life..."
Why not make that dream come true in Alaska?
In winter, the fantastic aurora spreads across the starry sky, and the dog sledding and hot springs you can enjoy in the sub-zero earth are truly extraordinary.
The clear winter sky and the moment you look up at the sky are an experience you will never forget.
But Alaska's charm is not limited to winter. In summer, the daylight hours are much longer, and you can enjoy sparkling lakes, majestic mountains, and activities such as canoeing and hiking. Why not spend a relaxing time in the sparkling green nature?
"You can enjoy both winter and summer"
That is the charm of Alaska.
This year, take a trip that will be a lifelong memory.
Why not go to Alaska, where the aurora and nature await you?
Aurora viewing🌟Yellowknife
This year is a good year for the aurora, and everyone is seeing the beautiful lights.
I saw them in Yellowknife, Canada!
I didn't want to go to the extreme cold,
so I came here because it was cool enough to see.
Also, the chances of seeing the aurora were high.
On the first day, I saw so many that I was full, but the next day, I didn't see any.
If you're sure you want to see them, it's better to have at least three days.
You wait in a tent while drinking tea, and when the aurora appears, a dog barks to let you know.
At the end of the year, I thought I'd be able to see it from the plane, but unfortunately I couldn't 😢

Spectacular Aurora in Yellowknife
I went to Yellowknife, Canada for 3 nights and 4 days from February 12th.
It was cloudy on the first day, but the aurora on the second day was spectacular.
I was able to see it for a little while on the third day.
I joined a HIS tour from Yellowknife Airport without an air ticket, and the cost including the hotel was about 120,000 yen. I used Trip.com for the air ticket, which was 50,000 yen round trip (from Toronto, Canada).
I wonder if it costs about 200,000 yen from Japan.
I added dog sledding to the HIS tour, and it was very worth it.
For a total of about 200,000 yen, I was able to have a trip that will be a lifelong memory.
It's a bit far from the airport to the hotel because of the snow, so I recommend joining a tour.
