Before heading up to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, we stopped by this stunning spot first. Blue Moon Valley is known for its breathtaking turquoise blue pools. Here, you can take photos while riding on the back of a yak for 50 yuan per person. There are also paid photography services available. The yaks are incredibly adorable! From this point, you can walk to take pictures at the cascading water area, which is truly beautiful. If you’ve purchased a golf cart ticket, you can use it to travel to various spots in the valley. It’s highly recommended to buy one as the walking distance can be quite far. The golf cart ticket costs 60 yuan per person. Another area features turquoise blue water as well, with bridges for scenic walks and multiple waterfalls. This is another must-visit location, especially on clear days when you can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background.

The day we arrived in Lijiang, Yunnan, The weather is sunny and the temperature is refreshing. We followed the advice of the hostess and went to Lashi Lake for a tour. Lashi Lake is a plateau lake About 15 kilometers from Lijiang city center You can take a taxi, bus or scenic spot special car to Lashi Lake is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and rich biodiversity. Lashi Lake is also an important wetland ecosystem, home to a rich variety of birds, fish and other wildlife. We saw many wild horses on the prairie of Lashi Lake🐴 We also participated in the horse riding activity at Lashi Lake Experience the scene of ancient horse caravans walking on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road We rode horses and enjoyed the lush green prairies and majestic mountain views. Li Jiang Old Town is a must visit, but arrive with a 'embrace the chaos' attitude. The area is large and is all pedestrian. It is easy to get lost as there are many small alleyways. This old town is one of the biggest in China. I date you to come and have a look and get lost inside. Make sure to bring a map because I promise you- you will get lost! But that is the charm. Baisha Village is a traditional Naxi Village. The Old Town was the first settlement of Naxi People upon their arrival in the Lijiang basin and houses the Baisha Murals. Baisha is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain about 10 km from Lijiang city. There are several things that I recommend to do in Lijiang. of course first is taking the walk I. the only town. Like any other city, Lijing’s old town also is beautiful but the streets are narrow and we were just following the flow. You shouldn’t miss the photo shoot with traditional costumes of Chinese minorities. There are many shops in old town which provide traditional clothes and photo shoot. One of the top places to visit that’s tranquil, and just beautiful is this pavilion. Close to the Old Town of Lijiang you can visit this area, one can hike up the mountain but we didn’t. The cost is 50 rmb and at the gate the park members will help you get digital tickets. North of Lijiang Is Shuhe Ancient Town , its cobble stones bright Yunnan colors and wooden architecture gives the streets a beautiful feel. You can find cafes , hotels , grocery stores and many food options inside the town. It comes to life in the afternoon , from Yunnan rose 🌹 cookies to woven scarfs are some of the local finds. If your staying near the town , you will visit allot as it has the Bivou restaurant inside the town. This organic western restaurant was one of our many stops to eat while staying in town. To visit Blue Moon Valley from Shuhe Ancient Village, Lijiang you can easily arrange a driver through your accommodation. The drive is around 45 minutes. Once you arrive you buy a ticket for 20rmb for the tourist bus that takes you to the scenic area. There is also a 100rmb park entrance fee. Blue Moon Valley is located at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Yunnan province, the Blue Moon Valley has four lakes. The turquoise blue water gets its colours from minerals. You can happily spend two hours walking seeing the different lakes and small waterfalls. I went in the afternoon and it was very busy. Getting There - I took a DiDi from the railway station (about 20mins). Attractions - Beautiful ancient town! Take your time exploring the town and check out the local shops. The vibe is awesome!😎 Heilong Pool park is actually not far from there so you can also go check it out. Hotels - There are a lot of hotels you can stay in located in the ancient town. Getting There - Taking a DiDi is the most convenient way to get there. Attractions - Lijiang’s Romance Show is one of the most impressive show I’ve ever seen (About 55minutes). I got the VIP seat and I’d say it’s worth it. Once you’ve entered the Romance Park area, there are plenty of things to do! I arrived an hour before the show and I wish I had arrived about 2 hours before. There are some great photo ops and walking around is very pleasant! Hotels - I recommend you get a hotel located closer to Lijiang’s old town. Food & Restaurants - There are quite a few snack shops where you can buy popcorn, corn, skewers, etc. Shopping - There are some shops where you can buy some souvenirs. It was a great experience! Getting There - After visiting Jade Snow Mountain, you can hop on a bus from there and get a ride to this scenic spot. (Free) If coming from downtown Lijiang, take a DiDi. Attractions - Blue Moon Valley in an incredibly beautiful place. The water is turquoise and quite clear. I’ve traveled to quite a few places and this particular scenic spot is one of my favorites in China! ❤️ Hotels - No need. I recommend you get a hotel closer to the ancient town instead. You can visit both Jade Snow Mountain and Blue Moon Valley in one day. Getting There - is easy to get with a DiDi there that cost around 80 rmb Attractions - entrance to the park cost 100 rmb plus 20 rmb of the internal bus to get to the valley, if you want you could also go the top of the mountain (~4600m) the ticket cost 170 rmb we did not have to use them but taking some oxygen tubes in case is recommended since lots of people suffer the high attitude Hotels - we stayed in Shunhe ancient town in a very nice hotel called Mansui Snow Mountain Hotel, is located around 40 minutes to the valley Food & Restaurants - the park has several small fast food and hot pot restaurants on the base Shopping - it is possible to buy small souvenirs almost in all bus stops #naturalwonders #lijiangtravel #yunnantravel #waterfall#themepark#nationalpark#lakes

The Bivou is a small hostal and restaurant located in Shuhe Old Town, around 20 minutes from Lijiang Old Town. Shuhe Old Town May not be as big as Lijiang Omd Town (and without hills for those not willing to walk that much). This old town gives you a similar vibe than Lijiang’s. Rooms are great, ours was very big and comfortable, more like a spacious cabin. You have enough space to invite people to your room for board games, family time or drinking evening. Sitting in the entrance surrounded by space and calm is always a nice option, without the noise and movement you find in Lijiang downtown. Breakfast is buffet American style, so you can find toasts and omelette. Very uncommon in most Chinese style hotels. Although in general, hikes are supposed to be strenuous this time we decided to have a chill hike and reach a coffee destination. Well, who would say No for such a killer combo of coffee ☕ and hike. As our journey to this embarked on going through narrow streets 🛣️ of Lijiang ancient town, exploring some local traditions, local snacks and ofcourse lovely people 💕. After a hike of nearly 30 minutes, we reached AIS house which looked like would turn into a wine 🍷house in the evening. But we stayed only for coffee there, and then went to hike little more to see the lion peak from the specified pavilion. Also we found some nice hotels to stay there. If you are around the Stone Drum Lashi village, Shigu, there’s a restaurant you should definitely try. Wang Nang restaurant focuses on traditional cuisine from Southwest China. It is located next to main park door, very near the riverbank (for an after-meal walk). This restaurant has not only a beautiful decoration and rustic ambience, varies indoors/outdoors, but its dishes include traditional Yunnan and Sichuan flavors. In Yunnan, pork is the most popular meat, and you can get many different preparations ranging non-spicy to Sichuan spicy (🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 ) level. Rice is served in traditional wood bowl, and delicious Chinese bread is complementary. A popular dish is the traditional Naxi blood rice sausage (lower dish, second pic), made with rice, pork blood, spices and flour. Relatively similar to morcilla and other blood sausages. Lashi lake wetland park is located 14 km from Lijiang Old Town, excellent place if you have a few hours to space, or you wish a nice one day trip. This scenic spot is very popular for bird watching, also to experience the Tea Horse Road by yourself. This area is home of two minorities: Naxi people and Yi people. Additionally, this wetland is a Ramsar site. Horse riding can take between 30 to 90 minutes depending of the route you chose. Wetland park costs ¥30, or ¥50 if you want to experience birdwatching in boat. Most birds are types of gooses and ducks, although 57 different species have been identified to migrate during winter. Inside the park, you get to visit the museum, a Naxi people nature god museum and several corridors with beautiful scenery. There are many rose decorations for some reason. Also, there are few shops in the entrance area of the park. 🚣‍♂️ It’s only inside certain park area, not allowed to go to Lashi lake. You get to chose between kayak, paddle boat or small motor boat (managed by local). Tiger Leaping Gorge is the main gorge of the Yangtze River, located in Shangri-La, halfway of both Shangri-La city and Lijiang city (~ 90 km). This park is surrounded by mountains, you even can see Haba and Yulong snow peaks, few waterfalls and caves. If you are a rock enthusiast, this is a great place for you! TLG has three reaches, with different levels of trekking difficulty or the main scenic spot in middle reach. Few restaurants are available. You have few options to visit this area: 1️⃣ Visit Middle reach scenic spot (pictures), were you climb up and down stairs. Perfect for one day trip, only will take you a couple hours to visit the canyon spot. This area is inclusive for people with disabilities and elders, if you pay an extra fee you can ride the electric stairs all from summit to lower spot (yet, you will be required to climb couple dozens of stairs to reach electric stairs). 2️⃣ You can either go back to Lijiang or take another bus to Shangri-La. That will be an additional hour and a half. This city has no entry fee, and it’s the only site in Tibet that doesn’t request special permit to foreigners to visit. 3️⃣ There is a 3-4 days trekking tour that includes all reaches. Most people indicates upper reaches are the most beautiful. But is only available for trekking groups that will stay in local guesthouses (mostly Tina’s or Judy’s). There tours include visits to local villages. There is a public bus available from Lijiang to TLG, leaves at 9:30am and gets back around 2pm. Yulong park has few options for gaining your strength after going around the park. Yunnan is popularly known for its rice noodles particular style, and inside the park we only found one noodles option: Divine Dinning. Plates are big, tasty, and few offers give you the possibility of creating your own style of rice noodles! Either with beef, chicken, vegetables, different types of tofu or mushrooms. You can also add few ingredients or sauces/vinegars to create your own mix. If you are not so fond of noodles, few rice options are available. On the other hand, tea rice as staple for rice noodles is a must! Even if there’s sun outside, cold wind gets you. So this particular mix was all the energy I needed to continue my trip on another part of the park! This scenic spot requires your full strength. Snow amount varies depending from season, however the scenery from the summit, and be able to prove yourself you did it, is amazing. Great places for pictures (enjoy the coolest alpaca ever). You need to take a cable car to summit. Stairs from there are your best friend and worst enemy. You can find food shops along the way, too keep energy and warmth. 💲Inside the park are many restaurants and shops. You can rent a waterproof warm coat if required. If you need oxygen before the cable car, buy more. To avoid complications and additional charges, visit the park with a group tour. 🏔 You go over 2,500m in few hours. Don’t risk your body, listen to your heart beat. If you want to visit a majestic valley with clear waters that come from a sacred glacial, the Blue Moon Valley in Yulong National Park is a must visit. Altitude for BMV is 3,600m. You can take local bus, distance to the park is 13 km and costs only 20 RMB (leaves from Lijiang Old Town North Gate). This freezing blueish water transforms in white during rainy season. Located in the Jade Dragon 🐉 Snow Mountain park, this scenic spot will stay in your mind forever. I suggest you to visit as early as possible, to avoid crowd spaces. This park in general is huge, and every spot can be incredibly iconic. Inside the park are many restaurants and shops, some are quite expensive. You can bring your own food. Also, you can rent a waterproof warm coat if temperature is too low, or buy additional oxygen if you need it. Although, it’s better to buy your own in Lijiang town (inside the park costs are 2-3 times more). 🔅 Only Chinese can pre-book tickets online. To avoid complications and additional charges, I’ll advice you to go to the park with a local group tour. ⚠️ You need to keep your passport with you at all times, pay many different tickets and show different health codes. Like the pictures show, this Inn has an antique ambience, cares a lot about each guest and has an amazing view of new city of Lijiang. Even the full view of Yulong mountain! Breakfast is included, rooms are big, shared areas are great. You don’t get much internet in the first floor but each room comes with its own WiFi. Also, almost every room varies, even if you book for same type of room. Most hotels/inns inside Lijiang Old Town, you need to carry your luggage on your shoulders for a few meters uphill to reach your accommodation. You can also call them and they will carry your bags for you. Manager doesn’t speak any English, yet she will invite you to share a tea (as good host she is), and will try to give you advices about your trip depending on your plans or the season. If you speak a little of Chinese, she will also give you cultural background about Lijiang and Yunnan over few cups of tea. There are few restaurants around this inn, normally the cheap ones are those outside the old town. Few convenience stores are few steps away, and you can get food delivered directly to the inn.
