Arriving in the early morning, I was instantly swept into a sea of petals and fragrances. Stalls overflowed with roses, tulips, lilies, peonies, orchids, and all kinds of seasonal blossoms, freshly delivered from Yunnan’s flower farms. The market is massive and divided into several zones — some for wholesale trading, others for retail buyers. I enjoyed wandering through the retail section where florists arranged custom bouquets and vendors wrapped flowers in newspaper with incredible speed and skill. Even if you’re not buying flowers, the atmosphere is vibrant, local, and full of life. It’s a real working market where beauty is serious business. Watching auctions, chatting with flower sellers, and seeing truckloads of blooms head to cities across Asia gave me a deeper appreciation for Yunnan’s floral culture. Kunming is one of those places you only go to as a stopover on your way to Lijiang or Dali, but I recommend visiting a few places while you wait. The first is a calligraphy class. It's a great way to learn a bit more culture and pass an afternoon. I also suggest to get to a roof bar and enjoy a drink or two overlooking the city. It's beautiful on a Summer evening. Both of these places are near 岔街站 (chajie metro). 翠湖公园 (Cui Lake park) is another beautiful place to visit and there is a Mann Coffee cafe nearby where you can view the lake from the 2nd floor. It’s summer time and most off us have weeks of vacation, but what does one find a place to reset and do laundry? Well , let me tell you Trip has added so many great features and most people don’t use it. So here I am telling you to use the FILTER button , on our 24 day vacation travel we needed to wash. So I used the 👇🏽 FILTER FUNCTION :🙌🏽 Did you know , you can find just about anything specifically via the filters. So happy they continue to improve it. 1) find the city , select dates 2) Now on the top select and find washing / laundry 3) By doing this only those hotels with these amenities will show up. * You can search from balconies, to family friendly , and so on. So try it Hotel : I used trip and found this great Atour Hotel in Kunming near the South Railway. With one day in Kunming it was a perfect location. I was impressed by the laundry room , washer and dryers and all essentials. They had baskets to place your clothing , and English instructions on how to use the machines. Taking the paper provided , you mark what you want and attach it to the machine. This was helpful so clothing wont get mixed up. Did I mention this was free ? ☺️. The rooms were spacious , and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and enough options. Area : The area is more on a resident side , but next to the metro station. When you arrive at the park it’s likely you’ll see crowds of tourist groups gathering up. Don’t let this put you off. Once you get into the park and onto the trails you’ll find plenty of time to be alone with the stones. They will recommend you buy a bus ticket for an extra 25 rmb to get you to and from the ticket booth to the entrance of the park since it’s a bit of a walk. You can drive straight from Kunming or stay in a local hotel near the stone forest for convenience. If you plan on more than one day I’d recommend staying locally. 24 hours in Kunming resetting for more of Yunnan , even though we didn’t get to see all the great places. A friend recommended this city center night market / pedestrian street. As a foodie this was up my alley. 📍Take metro line 2 ( Tangzixiang ) Exit H. Walk about 10 minutes. This outdoor space is full of food and shops to explore, dont come full so you can try some of the difference cuisines. From Maan Coffee , you will in find Thai inspired food along the way. We grabbed Sushi , Gelato , and even proper pork fried pork skin. 😋 You can satisfy any food palette when Visiting this street. #kunmingtravel #kunmingfood #foodie #

The Art Museum located at Dongfengyun Scenic Area is a must see attraction while you are traveling to Kunming and is worth spending your afternoon exploring the area. The museum expounds on the interpretation of earth, space and architecture by “Luo Xu”, the architecture is made of bricks laid in a geometry manner giving an illusion of wine bottles or red flames giving a unique art form full of postmodernist’s elements, as the real inspiration came from kaleidoscope Luo Xu used to play in his childhood.. Looking inside the dome, each window gives a certain shadow at different angels such as a kaleidoscope. 🔥🔥🔥 The scenic area is 1 hour away by train, taking it from Kunming Railway Station to Mile, but trains are every 2 hours so book a day in advance. As soon as you arrive at Mile Railway Station, you can easily get a taxi from outside costing 20th and a 10 minutes drive. “The Xiyou Cave is the shooting site of “Journey to the West” TV drama, and the famous Traveler Xu Xiake of Ming Dynasty left a reputation of “the first strange cave in the world”. The West Tour Cave Scenic Area includes : West Tour Cave, Water Curtain Cave and Guanyin Cave. 📍Get there : I took a DiDi from my hotel located near Kunming railway station and it took a little over 40 minutes or so. Attractions- The caves are a lot of fun to visit. There are professional photographers along the way. There’s a glass bridge, a big swing and a giant Buddha hand. I highly recommend doing all the activities, it’s totally worth it! Food - There are food stalls at the entrance of the site. You can also buy some snacks on your way up the mountain. “Green Lake Park, aka Cuihu Park, situated almost in the city center and facing Yunnan University, is one of the most beautiful parks in Kunming city. It is at the foot of Luofeng Mountain and on the west side of Wuhua Mountain. Green Lake itself occupies 15 hectares (37 acres) in the 21-hectare (52 acres) Green Lake Park and used to be a part of Dianchi Lake, but has become an independent lake now because of the water level decreasing of Dianchi.” 📍 Getting there - I believe the closest subway station is Panjiawan (line 3). I personally rode a bike there. It is very easy to get around in Kunming! Attractions - It’s a lovely and peaceful park. I went there around 7pm and it wasn’t really busy. Recommended time - I stayed there for about an hour and a half. How to get there - I took a DiDi from my hotel located near Kunming railway station and it took about 30mins. From the DiDi drop off location I walked about 5 minutes. This tourist attraction is quite nice and large. Walk around and enjoy the different villages. Throughout the day, there are different shows showcasing different villages. I strongly suggest you take a photo of the schedule when you enter the site. It is located in front of the gate. I watched two of the shows and thought they were very good and interesting. Food- There are some restaurants at the entrance. When I visited there was quite a bit of construction going on but I still had a good time! I rode a bike from Daguan Park and it was very easy to navigate! I love how Kunming is such a bikeable city! This area is really nice for shopping. If like me you’re not much into shopping but enjoy a nice walk, you’ll have a good time! I ate dinner at Magnet and it was delicious. I had the Cajun chicken & bacon quesadilla and the chicken tenders. The beer selection is also quite decent! In the past, there was a young male graduate who wanted to find a quiet place to read books for the civil service exam. The young man used the pavilion by the river as his place to read books. His wife prepared rice noodles for the young man to eat for lunch. Because they had to travel a long distance and cross a bridge, he was afraid that the rice noodles would be soggy and cold by the time they arrived. So the young wife separated the noodles and the soup. In the soup, the wife put a layer of oil on top to maintain the temperature of the soup and to keep the soup hot. Every day, the young wife had to carry her lunch across the bridge to the pavilion by the river to bring it to the young man to eat. This is why it is called “cross-bridge noodles”. The places we visited were very interesting but mostly tedious for us as we are all seniors, above 70s. There were a lot of climbing and walking long distances.I started my tour from Shangrila to kunming. From my experience it would be better to start from Shangrila to Kunming as there is only one flight from kuala lumpur to Kunming. It would be ideal to take a connecting flight to Shangrila on arrival at Kunming and start the tour from Shangrila.Also you can take a trains from the trains station kunming,it was take 5 hour from kunming to shangrila with the speed trains.The trains also provide food if you take first class seater. 1.STAY ● i stay at ibis kunming Nanping hotel Ibis Kunming Nanping Hotel entrance is on the side of the building. Excellent location The price is not very expensive, clean, complete with equipment in the room. ● Include breakfast also.. ● Have a laundry room ● Gym ● Mini library & playground area for children,also can play pool. ● Hotel to nanping walk street distance not to far,just a few minute. 2.Attraction ●stone forest scenic Such a fun place to explore. If you're physically able, take the more adventurous paths. There are free people and better views to be discovered. Yunnan Ethnic Village provided a mixed range of emotions. The people were really nice and getting there was really convenient with a phone but it’s just a replica or like a re-enactment of different ethnicities throughout all of China. I thought it was an older abandoned town where ethnic minorities use to live LOL. It’s just a replica. The natural sites were really pretty which made it worth it. You can see Xishuan Mountain in the background which was really cool.
