🇱🇰 Originally constructed in the late 19th century on Beira Lake, Seema Malakaya is a part of the historic Gangaramaya Temple which is situated 200 m to its east. In 1976, the temple was redesigned and reconstructed as the original structure started to sink in the lake. Since then, the temple sits on three floating platforms which are connected to each other and to the mainland by floating bridges. There are numerous seated Buddha statues displaying different mudras (hand gestures) on all three platforms. The central platform houses wooden paneled temple for meditation. The view of the surrounding Colombo skyline from the central platform is beautiful. A small entrance fee to the temple applies to foreigners. On the first day of arrival, I received a refreshing welcome drink. The first thing that impressed me was that all the staff, whether they were in the lobby, gardeners, or porters, all spoke excellent English and were very friendly. The next thing that made me exclaim was the size of the swimming pool. It was the largest I've ever seen in a 5-star hotel. There were sections for women, children, and a massage jacuzzi. While swimming, you could see the view of the various airlines going up and down. Most importantly, the poolside bar had a buy-1-get-1-free promotion every evening. If you want an extreme breakfast atmosphere, I recommend trying the floating breakfast. I've never seen anyone before where people could wear casual clothes and go down to eat breakfast in the pool. I have to give credit to their idea. Most importantly, in addition to having a private beach, the hotel is also very close to the airport. You can walk there. If you want to relax in Bali without getting tired, come stay here. #2023travelwish In this post-pandemic time, when Thailand re-opened to tourism, I renewed my passport, reserved my ticket and booked for my hotel and was "leaving on a jetplane". Destination: Bangkok. I was so excited and thrilled about our first day itinerary: DAMNOEN SADUAK a floating market which is a top attraction in Thailand. It is about 1.5 hours away located in Ratchaburi province 100 kms southwest of Bangkok. In the floating market experience, I started to understand the Thai local way of life with vendors selling fruits, souvenirs and eating food on the boat. With this I realized that "Life is hard and becoming harder;" and yet, "Life is always beautiful". I can see in the faces of the vendors their big SMILE inspite of life's difficulties. Thai people are grateful and appreciative people. Both the room and the water are kept at skin temperature, which creates the feeling of floating in midair, and creating the perfect environment in which to relax, recover and meditate. The spa is run by a foreigner and is very well organized, hygienic, and pleasant. At arrival, everything is explained to you and the you will be shown around the different kinds of tanks and rooms. Each room consists of a shower for you to use afterwards, with very nice shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They also provide disposable earplugs. The coolest thing about this is that you are given a waterproof headset to wear while in the tank, and you can browse through the channels and pick what you like listening to the most - nature sounds, classical music, guided meditation, etc. It really does feel like you’re completely floating in mid air! During my experience, I chose to listen to the guided meditation and completely fell asleep after the first 15 minutes or so. At the end of the session, they wake you up with some nice, soothing opera music that starts to play inside the room. I woke up feeling truly revigorares and relaxed! 😅 After leaving the tank room, you can enjoy your time in a small dresser area they’ve prepped with brushes, hair dryers, hair ties, etc. Very well equipped and neatly maintained. You can also relax after in a living room area where there is tea and water available. The owner recommends this around twice a week to help you with stress, sleep quality, and other health issues you may have. Definitely worth a try if you’re in Shanghai! #thisischina #spa #floating
