If you’re looking to visit Japan on a budget I’d strongly recommend checking out Hiroshima, it’s a wonderful city that doesn’t get enough praise for how budget friendly it is. It has a dark history but it’s turned into a lively and eclectic city with a huge food and shopping scene. ⭐️ Trains - We got the Shinkansen here from Osaka and it was a lot cheaper to do a train with stops. It only added 90 minutes to the journey but cost us half the price. The ticket agent will help you find cheaper tickets if you’re willing to do stops! ⭐️ Hotels - There are not as many options here compared to other cities in Japan so I stayed at a local boutique hotel. The rooms are small and there are not as many amenities as name brand chains but they’re great for a few days! we stayed in the Kiro hotel in Nishihiratsukacho. ⭐️ transport - the best part about Hiroshima is how compact The city is and you can walk to most of the hot spots. We only used transport when it rained. Everything else we walked to, so a great way to save money! ⭐️ Food - we didn’t have any issues here with food, even the more premium meals we had were very well priced and great quality. To save money head to Hondori! One of the biggest covered pedestrian streets I’ve seen, hundreds of street food vendors and restaurants. We came here everyday as we saw so much we wanted to try! There is also Korean BBQ / Sushi / teppanyaki on the side street if you want to spend more money. ⭐️ Nature - Hiroshima is a very green and beautiful city so a lot of our time was spent exploring and enjoying this. Another beautiful castle in Hiroshima, just a few meters from Fukuyama Station. It takes only 1 hour by Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka Station, and only 23 minutes from Hiroshima. You can see the castle from the station because it is so close. 🚆 JR Fukuyama Station North Exit Fukuyama Castle was built during the Edo period but was destroyed during World War II. The castle was then rebuilt from the remains of the war. The castle is surrounded by a large park. And you'll be amazed and surprised. I didn't expect that #SeraKogenFarm in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, would have such a beautiful flower garden. How cool! Just over an hour from Hiroshima, you can see more than one million sunflowers blooming beautifully at Sera Kogen Farm in Sera. The time I went was the Sera Kogen Farm Sunflower Festival, which only happens once a year, between July and August. However, you can visit this garden all the time, but it's only closed during the winter. There's a tower on the way to see the view from above. It's really beautiful when you go up there. Plus, it feels very refreshing to see beautiful and magnificent flowers. There are also stairs on the walkway for taking beautiful photos. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is a 120,000 sqm park in the middle of a metropolitan area. It stands out in stark contrast to the surrounding buildings, and is also a stark reminder of the impacts of an atomic bomb. The key attractions in the Park include the A-Bomb Dome, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was a former government building that remained standing after the A-bomb was dropped on the city. The Peace Memorial Museum is not to be missed as well. The admission fee is 200 yen and I recommend you get a ticket online beforehand to avoid the queue. The museum exhibits are a poignant reminder of the impacts of the A-bomb on Japan for a long long time, up till today. For Christmas holidays we chose Hiroshima. It offers the most peaceful and at the same time a beautiful Christmas. We also managed to visit the peace park. This was a huge park and a special day walking around and exploring the outdoors in good weather. What an unreal feeling to imagine what the place went through. It has this extremely calm and peaceful vibe. The museum nearby further amplifies the gravity of what occurred here, displaying artifacts, photographs, and personal accounts that vividly depict the human cost of war. Walking through the Peace Memorial Park, with its tranquil atmosphere juxtaposed against the weight of its history, is a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of pursuing peace. The countless paper cranes, symbols of hope and healing, left by visitors from around the world, underscore the universal desire for a future free from such devastation. My visit to the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima was a deeply moving experience. Standing in front of the Dome, I felt the powerful history and emotion surrounding it. Being there in person, I felt a mix of sadness and respect for the resilience of the people of Hiroshima. While the varieties were not many. But I think with a spacious and calm setting it made for a decent sandwich lunch. A good change from the otherwise. I had been passing by it everyday and eventually gave in to my curiosity. Having tried their sets and even smaller purchases like the croissant donut and coffee. Which by the ways was quite good. What did bother me is the amount of single plastic that is used. For a cafe or a restaurant to be serving people food that is still wrapped in plastic gave a strange feeling like I was eating at a convenience store. This is a lovely little restaurant near the river. We came across it after the hirosjima memorial visit. Did end up eating there a couple of times. Their pizza is quite good. No comparisons to be made, when something tastes good. It is good, as simple as that. I also love that there are options in serving sizes like mini, small and large. It's a very good spot with its beautiful setting at the river bank. I tried their lunch set too and we had the lobster pasta, one I would recommend to every pasta lovers. The Gelato was fun. I like nihon, things are subtle. They don't overdo it. This cafe had a very peaceful ambience. The staff that spoke english (refreshing) had very good knowledge of coffee. Yet no showing off and perfect balance of polite and professionalism. I got a hand drip coffee that was recommended. Just the way I like it. You can choose from about 20 types of coffee beans. I went for their dark roasted Guatemalan, which had a chocolate-like aroma and slightly fruity acidity. Prices are decent, well a but more than regular coffee places. I ate here a couple of times after a lunch set with a friend. The prices are surprisingly good for a place with the view of the sea. This is the hiroshima port area. I was put up in the vicinity so would often pass by this area and thats how i ended up eaying here sevrak times. Sometimes the lunch set, the other times coffee and bite. What was aomehwat complicated in thw beginnibnh was the whole registering thing on thw machinw. But once you crack it you see how useful it is. After registering at the machine, you can receive a call on your cell phone even if you are far away, which is convenient. Somethig one has to gwmet use to in japan. The whole doing things such as resevations or paying for food on a machine at the venue. It's also great that they ask you over the phone if you want to cancel or continue using the service.Payment can be made using QR code or cash. hiroshima is such a amazing place to spend time. Jr west rail from shin Osaka to Hiroshima only takes you less than 2 and half hours. The weather is amazing but sunny. The food here is reasonable and cheaper than in Osaka. I would suggest you to spend 1-2 days to explore around the city, example: Hiroshima memorial park,Hiroshima Castle, you can take a free transportation bus via using the jr rail ticket that you purchase. #hiroshima #japan
