#summervacay We had an absolutely fantastic time at LEGOLAND Malaysia! Our hotel check-in was at 4 PM, but since we arrived at 10:30 AM, we just dropped off our luggage and headed straight for the park. The park entrance is conveniently located inside the hotel; just take the elevator down to LG2 and follow the signs! Park Exploration & Tips The park wasn't overly crowded, so we didn't have to deal with long queues for rides, which was great! Most attractions allow kids over 1.2 meters to ride alone, giving adults a chance to relax nearby. At the driving school, you can get a LEGOLAND driving license for your child. They take a photo as you queue, and you can pick it up at a computer near the exit: 60 MYR for just the card, or 80 MYR for the card with a lanyard and holder (see pictures 7 & 8). The food prices inside the park's restaurants were quite reasonable, so we just ate there when we got hungry. The doughnut in picture 6 isn't regular-sized; it's super-sized and only 15 MYR, which I thought was a fantastic deal! Hotel Fun & Breakfast We played until the park closed at 6 PM, then headed back to pick up our room key. Our room had a treasure chest with a password – it took us forever to crack it (we finally found the code on Xiaohongshu, haha!), but inside were two small LEGO toys, which was a fun surprise! The room itself was huge, with a giant bed and a set of bunk beds, which the kids absolutely loved. Breakfast the next morning was at a restaurant inside the park. When you check in, you choose from three dining time slots. The next day, you just head back to the park entrance at your chosen time, and a shuttle cart takes you to the restaurant. We made a quick coffee stop at Starbucks Sunway Iskandar Drive-Thru before heading back to Singapore, and it turned out to be a relaxing breather. While shopping at AEON Mall Bukit Indah, we stumbled upon Chateraise—Japan’s beloved pastry brand. The whole family loves their treats, and we’ve even enjoyed them straight from their outlets in Japan. Naturally, we couldn’t resist stopping by to see how this Malaysian branch compared, especially in price. We were slightly disappointed to find that the prices weren’t significantly cheaper than Singapore—only marginally so. Still, we indulged in some of our favourites. The mango Swiss roll remains a family staple—soft sponge with just the right touch of cream and sweet mango. Personally, I’m a huge fan of their cream puff pastries—crispy, airy shells with luscious custard cream inside. I asked the staff whether their pastries were imported from Japan and was told yes, which explains the familiar quality and taste. We’ve driven past LALA BOY Hotpot countless times, and we finally got around to trying it for dinner yesterday. Turned out to be a pretty enjoyable experience! We went with their signature lala (clam) hotpot, which came with fresh, juicy clams that really elevated the broth. The soup was naturally sweet and flavorful from the seafood, and what made it even better was the option to add Chinese wine—freely available at the condiments table! The family and I dropped by Cheevit Cheeva one afternoon, curious about this new Thai dessert spot that recently opened at Eco Botanic. The vibe reminded us of the popular “After You” cafes in Bangkok — cozy, trendy, and clearly dessert-focused. We tried their signature toast with kaya and shredded coconut, and wow — the toast was beautifully done. Buttery, crisp on the outside, and fluffy inside. I ordered the Chef’s recommended broth (招牌) – the creamy cheese soup with grouper fish (石斑鱼) slices – and I must say, it was a pretty unique experience. The broth was rich, comforting, and you can definitely taste the cheese, which is something I don’t usually associate with traditional Asian fish soup. Surprisingly, it worked well. We had a wonderful dinner at Monaco Dining Restaurant in SouthKey Mozek and were thoroughly impressed with both the food and the thoughtful service. It’s a great spot if you’re craving quality Western fare with a touch of class. We ordered the beef Wellington, which came out beautifully crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside—easily big enough to be shared between two. The duck confit was rich and flavourful, and the escargot hit all the right garlicky, buttery notes. For the kids, we ordered mushroom soup, and the staff was kind enough to help divide two portions into three bowls without us even asking—such a thoughtful gesture that really made us feel welcome. We made the trip from Singapore all the way to Kulai just to finally try 潮汕楼 Restaurant Chao Shan, and while it was a pleasant dinner overall, I’d say it was a one-time journey for us. Located in what felt like an industrial zone, parking was a “free for all” situation—but thankfully, the restaurant itself was clean, spacious, and had a section showcasing live seafood. The service was warm and efficient, with the staff patiently explaining the dishes to us. We went for the classics: a traditional Teochew braised platter, which was really the highlight of the meal. The meats were tender, richly flavoured, and well-balanced. The yam paste dessert (orh nee) was also excellent—smooth, fragrant, and not overly sweet, just the way it should be. The rest of the dishes were decent, but didn’t leave a strong impression. Nothing bad, just not outstanding. Pricing was fair for the quality and portion sizes. In short: a clean, friendly place for authentic Teochew food, especially if you love braised items and yam paste. My wife ordered the sauerkraut broth, which was tangy, flavorful, and had a nice depth without being overly sour. I went for their mapo tofu, which had just the right level of heat and a silky texture, perfect with a side of rice. Also tried the omelette, simple but nicely done—fluffy and tasty. I recently visited Warung Ekspres in Iskandar Puteri, hoping for a comforting local meal, but the experience left me a little let down. The cafe was completely empty when I arrived after 8pm, which felt odd for a place offering Malaysian staples like nasi lemak and lontong. Though the space was clean and offered both indoor and outdoor seating, the atmosphere felt lifeless without a single other customer. I tried a few items to get a feel for the menu. The chendol was okay—not bad, but nothing memorable either. The kaya toast, however, was a real disappointment. They used Planta margarine instead of butter, which took away the richness, and the kaya lacked the fragrant punch I expected. It tasted flat, and the bread felt like it came straight out of a supermarket loaf. Things didn’t improve with the iced coffee, which tasted stale—as if it had been brewed hours earlier and just left sitting. The only bright spot was the iced lemon tea: crisp, tangy, and just sweet enough. Definitely the best part of the meal. The bill came to RM33.10, which felt steep for a casual warung—especially given the overall quality of food and drinks. For that price, I expected something a lot more satisfying. Our stay at Legoland Hotel Malaysia was a total win with the kids—they absolutely loved it. From the moment we stepped into the lobby, it felt like walking into a giant LEGO world. The entire hotel, including the rooms, was filled with colourful LEGO decor and playful figurines that brought big smiles all around. We stayed in one of the themed rooms that came with a double-decker bunk bed, and the kids were instantly obsessed. They had their own dedicated sleeping area, complete with puzzles and a treasure chest game to unlock a LEGO gift—it really made them feel like the room was built just for them. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped for families. Everything—from the LEGO wall in the lobby to the lifts playing disco music—was designed to make the experience fun for kids. Even as parents, we appreciated the thoughtful layout and little touches like kid-height sinks and plenty of space.
