NIPPONIA is expanding to various regions with the concept of staying in a nostalgic yet new Japan. We stayed in Chichibu Monzencho, Saitama. The building has been renovated from the Furuike Tobacco Shop, a registered tangible cultural property built in the early Showa period, the Miyatani Family House, and the Maruju Pharmacy, built between 1868 and the early Showa period. The building has retained its architectural and wood features, while highlighting the scent of cypress and calming lighting. This time, we stayed in a room on the first floor of the Maruju building. It was a simple room with a large sofa and a bed in the bedroom. Another feature of NIPPONIA is the lack of a TV. The bath was a large cypress tub, and when you fill it with hot water, it gave off a wonderful scent and was very luxurious. There were many benefits to staying at nearby facilities, such as tickets to hot spring facilities, discounts at cafes, free whiskey at pubs, and discounts at souvenir shops. We took advantage of all of them and enjoyed our stay in Chichibu to the fullest. ✨ For breakfast, we had the Chichibu Japanese set meal with plenty of rice accompaniments. The freshly cooked rice was shiny, and I ate too much in the morning... The room is an old house, so I got the impression that the air conditioning may not be enough depending on the season. In June, I had the air conditioning turned down and it was comfortable. There was an insect cooling spray, but there were no insects. When I checked in, I was told about the noise, and if the sound of the building's doors opening and closing bothers me, I should bring earplugs, and that the sound inside the room may leak out depending on the volume.
