If you’re anywhere near Guilin, don’t miss the LongJi Rice Terraces. These stunning “dragon’s backbone” fields have been carved into the mountainsides for over 650 years by the Zhuang and Yao ethnic minority groups — an ancient feat of engineering and pure beauty. We visited in autumn, when the paddies glow golden – absolutely magical. Took the cable car up (highly recommend unless you’re keen on a serious hike!), and the views from the top were unreal. 🚌 We took a 2 hour bus from Guilin City centre at 09:00 and back again at 17:30. You can book this through the local tour guide agencies around town. 🥾There is an option to take the cable car, but if you are moderately active, take the hiking path down instead. It will take you through some villages, houses and get you close up pictures with the rice fields. 🥟There are plenty of local food options at the start and top of the terrace. Longji Rice Terraces (Long Ji Ti Tian) is located in Longsheng County, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Guilin and 140 kilometers (90 miles) from Yangshuo. The construction of incredible Longji Rice Terraces started in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and lasted till the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). I spent two days here but could and should have spent longer. I stayed at the 360 panoramic hotel, which offers absolutely stunning views of the entire rice fields for an excellent affordable price. This place is stunning to take walks on with your camera. You can either take the cable car up to the top of the mountain or you can walk up, if you like hiking. Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area is very large and have 3 main villages. From Guilin it's around 1 and half hour drive. There is a big parking place and then electric car drive you to the hotel. You can spend one or two nights there and enjoy in a view and amazing nature. Food is also very good, try some local dishes and there is a lot of hotels with a good view from the room. Overall - Wow! This hotel felt like something straight out of a mountain cabin dream. We drove here from Guilin and arrived to the property after a 15 minute walk up the town road. We were greeted by our lovely hosts upon arrival, who helped us settle in and made sure we had everything we needed. Room - Our room was excellent. Very clean and organized. It came with two beds and a spacious balcony with a view of the Longji Rice Terraces. It also smelled incredible because of the wooden architecture. The details of wooden carvings throughout our room and hotel were beautifully intricate. Nearby Activities - About a 10 minute walk from the hotel sits the famous Longji Rice Terraces. We hiked up to the top and headed back down through a quaint town filled with stunning character and unique surprises along the way. It was an interesting experience being the only tourists to visit at the time, so we had a clear view of the surroundings. I was able to fly my drone over the Terraces and the beauty of this landscape is truly astounding! Food - We had a delicious dinner of Bamboo Rice and chicken. From Yangshou you have to travel around 1 and half hours by car to reach this picturesque Longji rice terrace 🚕. The cheapest way to travel here is by the tourist bus 🚌 but it takes almost more than 2 hours. On the way to the terrace you can explore a beautiful village 🏘. The best way to go to the top of the terrace is by Cable car 🚠 which costs 60 RMB one way and 100 RMB two ways.
