A Visit to The Stone Forests (and Stone Teeth) of Guilin 🏔️🌳
We left our hotel room from Kunming to head further south of China in the early morning. After a quick high speed train ride, we arrived at Shilin: home of the magnificent karst formation the locals call stone forests. In front of the station, there were local buses that would bring you directly to the UNESCO world heritage site that was Shilin for 10 yuan.
✨If you find the hour long bus ride too taxing, there are also plenty of taxis willing to transport you back and forth for a faster and more comfortable ride, albeit a lot pricier.✨
Once arrived at Shilin's visitor center, we opted to buy the package entrance tickets, which includes both the entrance fee as well as unlimited shuttle bus rides inside the park.
⚠️ Beware that the actual entrance of the parc is quite far from any of the main attractions! If you don't want to walk 2-3km, do think about investing in the shuttle bus tickets. ⚠️
Once in the park, you can roam around the Giant Stone Forest - which includes a labyrinth of underground tunnels and maze weaved in-between the karsts formations - or stroll along the Small Stone Forest - which does not require any climbing at all and is relatively flat.

Karst Mountains in Yangshuo
We took a cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo, absorbing the beautiful views of the karst mountains from the water. Then we stayed at an inn outside of the old town so we could spend some quiet time relaxing and exploring the countryside. There were hiking trails through small villages, along fruit orchards. I also hiked to a little 500-year-old bridge and up some mountains for the gorgeous views. Street vendors are available all over to provide snacks and refreshments.

Glass Bridges for Beginners
Getting There - Take a hotel car, or scooter or bike in fine weather. it's too remote to guarantee a return Didi.
Attractions - A cable car, 'fixed' rope bridge, a high view point, a partially glassed bridge and a fully glass path hanging off the side of a cliff!! Not very taxing if you don't like hiking, but a fair few#christmasgiveaway steps. It was a really fun trip, I'm not a lover of heights but I managed...ok so I got halfway along the cliff glass path, had a moment and walked quickly for the next half as close to the cliff edge as possible (the bit there is concrete). We went in December, so off peak, and barely anyone around, but apparently can get super crowded.
Check the photo of the map, some parts can be reached without doing the glass walks. And the long glass bridge is only partially glass, mostly, it's metal. So give it all a go as an intro to 'glass walking'! If you do the rope walk to the high point (go clockwise), you'll go easiest to scariest!

The Golden Bat Cave in Donghae, South Korea.
After visiting, I found that the golden bats had moved away a long time ago.
What remains at the site is a very beautiful limestone terrain.
Wear a helmet when starting (very necessary)
Looking at the stalactite columns that have accumulated over millions of years,
It makes people marvel at the wonders of nature.
The good news is that this point is about 20 minutes away from the city.
It is convenient to go there by taxi or bus.
But Donghae itself is not a place that foreign tourists would visit.
It takes 2-3 hours from Seoul by KTX.
In addition to seeing the sea, if you are here for the first time, you can visit the caves.
It is also a good place to escape the heat in the hot summer.
