A city frozen in time for nearly 2,000 years!
It’s the stuff of legends, right?
In the year 79 CE, Mount Vesuvius erupted. It was one of the deadliest volcanic eruptions that has ever occurred on Earth. Whilst the eruption happened nearly 2000 years ago, the resulting pyroclastic blast ensured that this volcanic eruption would be etched in history forever.
Pompeii was one of the nearest cities to Mount Vesuvius. It was a Roman metropolis that had it all - shops, houses, theatres and so much more. In an instant, life in that city was changed forever. But the city wasn’t destroyed. Buried under a mound of molten lava, rocks and ash, it would be discovered centuries later.
Nowadays, we can walk in the same footsteps as our Roman ancestors. We can get a taste of what life was like all those years ago and discover how, in many ways, their lives weren’t much different to our own.
A top tip - try and visit in the shoulder seasons as there is a lot of walking to do in and around Pompeii - you don’t want to visit whilst it’s too hot. And another tip - try and visit on the first Sunday of the month. Entry is free 😉

Pompeii: The City Frozen in Time in Italy
Beneath the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii’s tragic tale still pulses through its preserved streets. In 79 AD, a volcanic eruption buried this vibrant Roman city in ash—freezing it in a single, catastrophic moment.
🔥 The Eruption’s Echo. Walk past plaster casts of victims, their final poses etched in agony.
🏛️ Everyday Life Preserved. From frescoed villas to ancient fast-food counters and pizza shove, the city feels eerily alive.
🌋 Vesuvius Looms. The volcano still watches over the ruins—a silent reminder of nature’s power.
- Go early morning to avoid crowds.
- Extremely hot going in the summer, bring sunscreen!
Pompeii isn’t just ruins—it’s a 2,000-year-old snapshot of life, wealth, and sudden loss.

Inside Pompeii
Destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 79AD, Pompeii is one of the most famous places in Italy and today acts like a museum not only to remember the disaster the befell the city but also a way to witness what life was like under the Roman Empire almost 2000 years ago.
You can still explore many of the buildings that once made this impressive city with the highlights including the Villa of the mysteries, the Stabian baths and perhaps more famously the brothel. #celebrateit #pompeii #roman

Exploring Ancient Pompeii
Pompeii is such a vast complex and our 2 hours spent there only covered two regions. It was surreal to explore an ancient city. To be able to walk on Roman roads, enter residences, buildings and arenas that stood for thousands of years was really amazing. Looking at the remains of the victims of the volcanic eruption was sobering to say the least. Their last moments frozen in time.
As it is such a huge area to cover, wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be walking on cobbled ancient roads and paths. Also, if you’re there in summer like we were, dress comfortably because the Italian summer, although beautiful, the heat can be really scorching!
Unfortunately, Our driver was waiting so we had to cut the visit short. I was sad I couldn’t get to see some of the things Mary Beard highlighted on her BBC series. It’s an incredible place and we’ll definitely return.

The famous Pompeii 🏛️
#localfinds
Visiting Pompeii Archaeological Park was like stepping back in time. Located just a short train ride from Naples, the entrance fee was around €16, and it was worth every cent. The ruins of this ancient Roman city, preserved by volcanic ash, are simply awe-inspiring. Walking through the streets where people lived 2,000 years ago was surreal! You could still see frescoes on the walls, mosaics on the floors, and even remnants of daily life like shops and houses.
The highlight for me was the Forum and the view of Mount Vesuvius in the background. It’s crazy to imagine how life was here before the eruption. The Amphitheatre was another incredible spot—standing there, I could almost hear the crowds. Plan for at least 3-4 hours to explore; it’s massive, and there’s so much to take in.
Nearby, you can also visit the ruins of Herculaneum, or make a day trip out of climbing Mount Vesuvius itself, which is only about 30 minutes away by car. Pompeii is definitely a must-see if you’re in the area!

The famous Pompeii 🚨
#ancienttown
Just visited Pompeii, and it was absolutely surreal! 🏛️ Walking through this ancient city, you get a real sense of what life was like nearly 2,000 years ago. The entrance fee was €18, and I highly recommend getting a guide or an audio tour because there’s so much history to take in. One of the most striking things was seeing the plaster casts of the victims—it’s a chilling reminder of the power of Mount Vesuvius. 🌋
The city is massive, so wear comfortable shoes! I spent hours exploring the ruins, from the Forum and the temples to the amphitheater and the remarkably preserved frescoes in the villas. 🏺 The colors and details in the House of the Faun and Villa of the Mysteries were stunning. If you have time, the nearby Naples Archaeological Museum houses many artifacts from Pompeii and is definitely worth a visit.
It's incredible how well-preserved everything is, and it's easy to lose track of time imagining what daily life was like here. Definitely a must-see if you’re into history! #trip #Pompeii #Italy #AncientHistory #TravelBackInTime #Archaeology
Human bodies in Pompeii
As we all have heard about human bodies found in Pompeii Archeological Park, our mission was to find these human bodies. However, it was not the easiest thing to do. We did not hire a tour guide. There were no signs about the bodies. We tried to ask the staffs. But either the bodies have been moved around or the staffs did not memorize the map, we were pointed to wrong places. Plus, the whole archeological site is like a labyrinth and some roads were blocked. Finally, we found a big house with three bodies and another big house with one body. We also found some bathhouses. We are quite satisfied with our findings and we left the place with happy smile.

Glimpse of ancient Roman city in Pompeii
We arrived in Naples on a cruise boat. We took the metro from the port to the train station and then took the train to Pompeii Archaeological Park. We missed the stop and had to another train to go back. It took us about 2 hours but it was really worth it. The site was huge. Walking inside, one can feel how life was in the ancient Roman city. Although most of the buildings are gone now, the foundation of the buildings is still very clear. Most of the houses were sharing walls and there were temples, water fountains, and communal areas inside the city. Some of the mansions are still very well preserved. We did not manage to see everything but it was still an amazing experience.
However, visiting Pompeii in August is a little tough as the weather can be very hot. Make sure to hydrate yourself with lots of water. Fortunately, there is small shop inside Pompeii where you can get bottled water.

The Idilic Amalfi Coast
Well the Amalfi Coast really does live up to all of the hype. What a beautiful stunning place, everywhere you look there are pockets of nature and classic Italian architecture. The Amalfi coast just seems to get better and better the more you drive through it.
As soon as we landed in Naples airport we hired a car around 200 metres down the road. We stopped at Pompeii on our way to where we were staying at Massa Lubrense and my only complaint is that we did not have enough time to see everything there, you could easily spend a whole day there.
Once we settled in to our place we spend a day out at a cove with the bluest water I have ever seen then travelled up to Amalfi to get some gelato and relaxed with a drink at the beach. That night we travelled to Sorrento for pizza and it was outstanding, the nightlife was also impressive for a Sunday night!
The next day we travelled to Pianillo to do a 3 hour cooking class where we made Mozzarella, fresh pasta and tiramisu which was an amazing meal experience which I would definitely recommend. We left there very well fed and had plenty of wine all for the small price of only £50 per head! We then spent the rest of the day and night in Positano which genuinely looks better in person than in the photos you see on Instagram! Although Positano was generally more expensive than elsewhere it was certainly worth it for the experience.
We all loved every second of our time at the Amalfi Coast. We spent 4 days here but if we were to do it again we would come for 6 days minimum to ensure we got to do everything we wanted, we would have also loved to have hired a private boat to go to Capri but just didn’t have the time. The Amalfi Coast has been 10/10 would definitely recommend. #amalfi #amalficoast #pompeii #italianfood
Pompeii 🗺️❤️
I recently visited the Pompeii Archaeological Park in Italy, and it was an unforgettable experience! 🏛️ Located near Naples, Pompeii is a must-visit for history buffs and anyone fascinated by ancient Roman life. The entrance fee was around 16 euros, which is well worth it for the chance to explore such an extensive and well-preserved site.
Walking through the ruins, I was amazed by how much has survived since the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The streets, houses, and public buildings give a vivid picture of daily life in ancient times. Highlights for me were the Amphitheater, the Villa of the Mysteries with its stunning frescoes, and the Forum, which offers breathtaking views of Vesuvius in the background. 🏺
Nearby, the modern city of Naples is just a short train ride away, offering incredible museums like the National Archaeological Museum, which houses many artifacts from Pompeii. The Amalfi Coast is also within reach for those looking to combine history with some of Italy's most beautiful coastal scenery. Don't miss the chance to hike up Mount Vesuvius for a closer look at the volcano that shaped this remarkable site.
Pompeii is a captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. It’s a must-see destination that truly brings the past to life. #Pompeii #Italy #AncientHistory #TravelItaly 🏛️🇮🇹
Tragedy meets Beauty - Pompeii
A city that rose from its ashes...
Around noon on August 24, 79 CE, a huge eruption from Mount Vesuvius showered volcanic debris over the city of Pompeii, followed the next day by clouds of blisteringly hot gases. Buildings were destroyed, the population was crushed or asphyxiated, and the city was buried beneath a blanket of ash and pumice. For many centuries Pompeii slept beneath its pall of ash, which perfectly preserved the remains. When these were finally unearthed, in the 1700s, the world was astonished at the discovery of a sophisticated Greco-Roman city frozen in time. Grand public buildings included an impressive forum and an amphitheatre; lavish villas and all kinds of houses, dating back to the 4th century
BCE, were also uncovered. Inside were some preserved remains of people sheltering from the eruption; others lay buried as they fled; bakeries were found with loaves still in the ovens. The buildings and their contents revealed day-to-day life in the ancient world—and stirred 18th-century interest in all things classical.

Take a trip to Pompei 🇮🇹
Pompei is a famous ancient city that was destroyed by the mighty volcano Vesuvius years ago. It is now a tourism destination for many wanting to learn about the history of this great city and one of the worst disasters in human recorded history.
It is very close to the big city of Naples, and being in the Campania region, the city is surrounded by nature consisting of mountains, greenery, and plenty of animal life.
There are plenty of places to eat here including a cafeteria where you can get some of the typical Italian foods one may like or even international snacks. However, be warned because it is a bit more expensive to buy food here instead of eating before coming.
Pompei can be reached by bus only about an hour away, or by car taxi and many tourist groups can be seen here in the summer.
The city is wide and vast so be sure to wear walking shoes for the cobblestones. View in awe the many houses, gardens, and places people lived.
There are museums and a gift shop one can visit for souvenirs too.
I especially enjoy the views of the villas people of wealth used to live in with the open roofs and big garden areas.
Overall. I would say that this is worth a visit if you happen to be in the Campania region or visiting the city of Naples.
DON’T MISS OUT!! It’s worth a visit.

The world famous Pompeii - the ancient Roman city in southern Italy that was destroyed by a volcano Vesuvius. I went to a lot of museums there and it was amazing. If you are going there be also careful of people who are stealing. The hotels are nice! The people there were very nice. I recommend going too restaurants that local people go there cause from experience I think they are the best! ALSO DO NOT FORGET SUNSCREEN LOL !! If you are going there I wish you a good stay :). #naturalwonders #fyp #italybeauties #pompeii
