Sustainable Adventure at Khongor Sand Dunes, Mongolia
Nestled in the vast Gobi Desert, the Khongor Sand Dunes, also known as the "Singing Dunes," offered an unforgettable experience of Mongolia’s raw beauty. Towering up to 300 meters high, these golden waves stretch for over 100 kilometers, creating a mesmerizing landscape that seems endless.
Embracing sustainable travel, I stayed with a local nomadic family in a traditional ger, where I learned about their harmonious way of life. Instead of using motorized vehicles, I opted for a camel trek, reducing my carbon footprint while experiencing the desert as the locals have for centuries. The sound of shifting sands in the wind—like a deep, resonant hum—was nature’s own music.
Respecting the fragile desert ecosystem, I followed the Leave No Trace principles, ensuring minimal impact on the dunes. My meals were locally sourced, from fresh dairy products to hearty Mongolian stews, supporting the community’s traditional ways.
Watching the sun set over the dunes, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I was reminded of the importance of preserving these untouched landscapes. Sustainable travel isn’t just about exploration—it’s about appreciation, responsibility, and ensuring future generations can witness this beauty.

Tsagaan Suvarga: Mongolia’s Hidden Gem & A Lesson in Sustainable Travel
Venturing into Mongolia’s vast landscapes, I found myself at Tsagaan Suvarga, a breathtaking natural wonder often called the "White Stupa." These towering cliffs, sculpted by time and wind, shift colors with the sunlight, creating a mesmerizing spectacle in the heart of the Gobi Desert.
Traveling here is a humbling reminder of nature’s power and fragility. The silence of the desert, the untouched beauty, and the sheer scale of the landscape urge visitors to tread lightly. Sustainable travel isn’t just about leaving no trace—it’s about respecting local traditions and ecosystems. Staying in a ger camp, I embraced a slower, more mindful way of travel, supporting nomadic communities that have coexisted with this land for centuries.
Mongolia’s pristine environment depends on responsible tourism. Opting for eco-conscious accommodations, using reusable bottles, and following designated trails help preserve this sacred land. Tsagaan Suvarga is a destination that teaches patience, appreciation, and the importance of sustainable exploration.
If you ever find yourself in Mongolia, let the White Stupa’s beauty inspire you—to travel responsibly, to respect nature, and to leave behind only footprints, not impact.

Whakarewarewa Māori Village: A Sustainable Cultural Journey
Nestled in the geothermal heart of Rotorua, Whakarewarewa Māori Village offers a unique blend of cultural heritage and sustainable tourism. As I wandered through this living village, I was immersed in the traditions of the Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao people, who have harmonized their way of life with the earth’s natural energy for centuries.
Sustainability here isn’t just a concept—it’s a way of life. The village harnesses geothermal steam for cooking, bathing, and heating, reducing the need for external energy sources. I was lucky to try a traditional hangi meal, where food is slow-cooked using natural steam vents, preserving flavors while minimizing environmental impact.
Beyond the geothermal wonders, the village’s commitment to responsible tourism is inspiring. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the community, supporting local artisans and cultural performances that sustain indigenous traditions. Walking along the steamy paths, I witnessed how deep respect for nature and cultural preservation go hand in hand.
Whakarewarewa isn’t just a destination—it’s a reminder that sustainable travel is about learning, respecting, and supporting communities that have lived in harmony with nature long before sustainability became a global movement.

A Wild Encounter in Harbin 🐯🌲
📍 Address: 88 Songbei Road, Xiangfang District, Harbin, China.
🌟 Highlights: The Siberian Tiger Park in Harbin is a unique experience that allows visitors to see these majestic animals up close in a seemingly free and natural habitat. The park covers a vast area of over 1,400,000 square meters, and it's home to more than 500 Siberian tigers, making it the largest Siberian tiger park in the world. Visitors can take a bus tour to observe the tigers in their natural environment or feed them with meat on a stick.
👍🏻 Rating: Although I do not support keeping animals in cages, the Siberian Tiger Park in Harbin seems to provide a safe and happy home for these endangered animals. The park is well-maintained, and the tigers seem to have plenty of space to roam and play.
👉🏻 Motivation: If you're an animal lover, the Siberian Tiger Park is a must-visit destination in Harbin. It's a unique opportunity to see these beautiful creatures up close and learn more about their habitat and conservation efforts. Plus, by visiting the park, you're also supporting its efforts to protect and preserve the Siberian tiger species. 🐅🌳🌞

🐘 Morning Trumpets & Mud Baths – Life at Chai Lai Orchid 🌿
One of the absolute highlights of our trip: staying at Chai Lai Orchid near Chiang Mai. It’s more than just a place to sleep – it’s a sanctuary where rescued elephants roam freely, and guests get to be part of their world for a little while.
Waking up to elephants wandering past your balcony is a surreal and beautiful thing. They even pop by at breakfast – gently (and sometimes not-so-gently!) reminding you they’d like a banana or two.
We got to bathe the elephants in the river, which was as joyful and muddy as it sounds – such a calm, grounding experience. And the star of the show? A 5-month-old baby elephant, already cheeky, full of energy, and unbelievably strong. He kept headbutting us like a playful puppy that doesn’t know its own strength. Absolutely hilarious – and unforgettable.
Chai Lai is doing amazing work for both elephants and the local community. If you’re in northern Thailand and want an experience that’s ethical, heartwarming and wildly fun – go. You won’t forget it.
