There’s something magical about slow mornings in a new city — and this one started with a warm coffee at our Airbnb ☕️. No rush, just the comforting smell of freshly brewed coffee and the excitement of another day in Reykjavik. Our first stop was the vibrant and iconic Rainbow Street 🏳️🌈 — a must-see that absolutely lives up to the hype. As we strolled up Skólavörðustígur, the colorful pathway led us straight to the majestic Hallgrímskirkja Church ⛪. Naturally, we couldn’t resist taking that signature photo right in the middle of the rainbow, with the church standing tall in the background — such a dreamy view for the feed! 📸 Of course, a little photoshoot session followed — the pastel houses, quirky shopfronts, and cheerful energy made every corner picture-perfect. Reykjavik really knows how to serve charm and color in every direction! We wandered into so many cute souvenir shops 🛍️ — each filled with Icelandic wool, puffin-themed goodies, volcanic rock trinkets, and cozy knits. Every shop felt like a tiny world of handmade treasures. Next, we found ourselves strolling down Pingholt Street — quiet, peaceful, and full of local charm. It was the kind of street where you slow down without even trying, just admiring the cozy homes and little details. To end our walk on a sweet note, we stopped by Valdís Gelato — because let’s be real, it’s never too cold for ice cream in Iceland! 🍦 Their flavors were fun and surprising (try the licorice if you’re feeling brave), and the scoop totally hit the spot. ⸻ Reykjavik isn’t about rushing — it’s about wandering, discovering, and savoring the simple moments. We did the 10 day Ring Road tour offered by Iceland Travel. We ate at ROK, and Krost (highly recommend both restaurants) before meeting our group at the hotel. BG was our guide for the tour. He was fantastic, you could tell that he was proud of his country, and wanted to show it off, and tell all of the stories he had learned of his country over the years. He was able to add a few extra stops if everyone was back to the bus on time. You could tell he took pride in his bus, as he would clean it every night after we got to the hotel. Every time I hear Highway to Hell, I will think of BG… (in a good way). As amazing as the trip and BG was, I was so impressed with how amazing the food was at all of our stops. We tried the local fish, lamb, reindeer. The lamb sirloin at our last stop was amazing. Stops along the way included a stop a microbrewery, an Icelandic horse farm, a shark museum, a visit to a Viking longhouse, and a stop at a geothermal greenhouse. All were interesting, but calling it a shark museum is kinda misleading. It was more like a bunch of trinkets thrown together. Highly recommend, the trip, and BG as the tour guide.#icelandtrip #iceland

Day 7 in Iceland ~ Travel around the capital city center ▪️Rianbow Street This road connects the Hallgrímskirkja and is closed to vehicles. There are snack bars and small shops on both sides of Rainbow Street. When you are tired from walking, you can find a coffee shop to sit down and rest and feel the leisurely atmosphere. ▪️Baejarins Beztu Pylsur Hot Dog Stand The most famous hot dog stand in Iceland, with the blessing of the president, there is an endless line of people queuing up. I thought it was a normal hot dog, which was not surprising at first, but when I learned that Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur’s hot dogs are mainly made of mutton, I was a little surprised because I couldn’t taste the mutton at all. ▪️Tjörnin Lake There are really a lot of ducks, but it’s just a scenic spot I passed by. ▪️The Sun Voyager When I had no idea about the Solar Voyager, I thought it was a fish bone. On our 6th day in Iceland, we are about to complete the longest drive of the trip, covering 384 kilometers, almost 5 hours, from Akureyri straight to our hotel in Reykjavik. We decided to skip the attractions in the west of Iceland on the way back - those will have to wait for another visit. On our 7th day in Iceland, our first stop is the Perlan Wonders of Iceland Nature Museum, which requires a ticket for entry. Inside the museum, there are exhibitions like the Northern Lights show, an artificial ice cave, and more... There's also a revolving restaurant, a coffee shop, an ice cream store, and a bar. From the Perlan observation deck, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the capital, Reykjavik. In the summer in Iceland, we didn't get the chance to visit a real ice cave, but here they have an artificial ice cave exhibition, which offers a taste of what it's like to visit the blue ice caves. Haha 😄 The outdoor observation deck at Perlan offers a panoramic view of the entire city of Reykjavik. The top floor has a semi-circular transparent glass exterior, which actually houses a souvenir shop and a restaurant.

The last stop on the fifth day in Iceland ~ Akureyri 🚙It took about 3 hours to get from the hotel to Akureyri🚙The total length is 82.5 kilometers ▪️ Akureyri Cathedral Akureyri is the largest city in the north of Iceland. Akureyri Cathedral is the iconic building of the entire city and a must-visit destination for everyone. The church is built on a hillside, and you have to walk up more than a hundred stairs to visit it. ▪️This square is located next to Akureyri's main dock and was once an industrial town with factories producing a variety of goods: candy, soft drinks, paints, washing powder, margarine, bread and candles, as well as various processed meat products. However, these industrial days are long gone and today they are transformed into venues of activities of a completely different nature, such as restaurants, bookstores, craft and design shops, as well as various cultural and artistic events, including the School of Visual Arts and the Akureyri Art Museum . On the fourth day of my arrival in Iceland, the waterfall I was most looking forward to was "Dettifoss". This waterfall has two viewing points, east and west, and I chose the east one because it was the scene from the movie "Prometheus" shooting location. 🚙It takes about 3 hours from the hotel to Dettifoss🚙 To go to the waterfall, you must pass Highway 864 or 862. The road is full of gravel and the road is not easy. Moreover, this road is not often open. In winter, it is covered with thick snow, so it is closed. "Iceland's East Borgarfjord" is a dedicated and long-lasting Icelandic puffin On the third day after arriving in Iceland, we will soon head to the east of Iceland and prepare for a long-distance bus trip, which is about 317 kilometers in total. On the beach, there are columnar basalt formations, and taking a good photo is nothing but a dream, as even simply walking on the beach is extremely difficult. Battling against the headwind and the assault of black sands, we made it to this sea-eroded cave, and were deeply amazed by the sight before us, so unique and beautiful, as if nature was casually showing off its masterful craftsmanship. The aptly named Black Sand Beach, with its grains of black pebbles. However, be cautious of the beach's waves, as the tide comes in quickly and it's easy to be swept away by the waves.

THIS IS NOT A POPULAR GLACIER? When you think of glaciers, Fjallsárlón Glacier is probably not the first one that comes to mind because it’s less well known to the public! This stunning glacial lake filled with beautiful icebergs is often compared with the commonly known Jökulsárlón! Did you know that the duo are in such close proximity that they are only just a few kilometres away from each other? Unlike Jökulsárlón, here you can get up close and personal with the glacier from the shore, and sometimes get very close to the colossal ice blocks that regularly run aground on the bank (just like the photos!) The ice changes colour depending on the sunlight and varies from white to blue to black with the great Öræfajökull in the background!
