Stepping into St. Peter's Basilica, I was incredibly fortunate to witness a Mass in progress, with a large procession of people raising statues of the Virgin Mary and crucifixes, circling the space. To then walk through the Holy Door, which only opens every 25 years, and stand in the very center of the Basilica, listening to the Gregorian chants and the powerful pipe organ, felt like experiencing a profound cultural resonance that transcended time. It was a moment that truly underscored the nobility and importance of faith. Separately, the Vatican Museums were an experience in themselves! Since I hadn't booked ahead, I queued for two hours to get in, and yes, the crowds were absolutely massive. I couldn't linger too long in each exhibition room, simply following the flow of people. ⁡ 【 Vatican city | #vaticanmuseum #VaticanMuseum 】 You can really enter Vatican City without any inspection... I was not sure where the Vatican City began. I made a reservation for the Vatican Museum (2 days in advance though...) and went there first thing in the morning. There were so many people from 8:30 that I couldn't figure out the line, so I gave up and had a luxurious breakfast at a nearby cafe. It seems that Italian-style breakfasts sometimes involve drinking espresso and orange juice together, which is interesting. When I checked at the cafe, it seemed like the reservation time itself was invalid 30 minutes after the reservation time? I hurried back, and there were still a lot of groups and it was quite chaotic, but I asked a staff member about the line and was able to enter right away. There are many famous works, so I recommend deciding what you want to see and roughly deciding (checking) the route. Most memorable moment: Returning to Piccadilly Roma after the Roma vs Geneva football game. We hadn’t booked a room for the night nor anticipated the amazing city becoming 99% booked upon our return. Just when we thought we were going to have to drive a minimum of 45 minutes to find a place to stay, the owner of Piccadilly Roma gave us the most pleasant surprise. He offered us two affordable rooms remaining at his hotel barely two blocks away. He didn’t stop there though. He offered to walk us to the hotel to be sure we would be satisfied and sold us a bottle of incredible red wine from his restaurant, which he opened for us to enjoy in our rooms as the restaurant was closing. There are many remarkable works of art and wonderful attractions housed in the Pio-Clementino Museum in Vatican City, but few are as well-known as Bramante's Staircase. In the Vatican Museums, there are in fact two stairs with the same name. The contemporary Bramante's Staircase was constructed in 1932 and was modeled after the original, which was constructed in 1505. considered a revolutionary architectural marvel of its time, with the recognizable spiral structure that has garnered renown throughout time. Fortunately, the Bramante's Staircase of today is completely accessible to the general public. This stairway, which is also a part of the Pio-Clementino Museum, serves as a marker for the conclusion of a museum tour and the exit for all visitors. Standing at the very top of this massive staircase and watching crowds of people descend to the lower floor is very amazing. Giuseppe Momo created this staircase in 1932, and it has many of the same characteristics as the original. Although in this situation it only enables two distinct groups of people to descend together, it nevertheless replicates the double helix structure. The architecture and statues in display are incredible and get more impressive as you look deeper. Trust me, seeing Michelangelo’s ceiling up close is worth every cent. The artwork and history inside are overwhelming—in the best way! I also visited St. Peter’s Basilica (free entry!), where I climbed to the top of the dome for just €10. The view over Rome was breathtaking. Afterward, I relaxed in St. Peter’s Square, soaking in the atmosphere.
