It is a small shopping street full of fashion products from independent shops and designers of teenagers and young Singaporeans, located in Kampong Glam area. Most of the shops are clothes, shoes, bags and various lifestyle products. It is well known for the pictures of shops decorated and brightly painted in 2-storey colonial-style shophouses, including graffiti on the walls of the houses that clearly indicate the indie nature of this alley. And when we decided to eat here, means we have decided for an early lunch, otherwise there won't be much left. When we arrived at 12PM crowds already snaking at the ordering area. Ordering was swift, we waited around 15 minutes to get our turn. We had their Tahu Telur and Nasi Padang which consists of nonya achar, begedil, telur and paru belado. The white rice was poured with their curry gravy and all of them were very delicious. We liked their teh tarik too, very creamy and not overly acidic like the normal teh C in kopitiam. If you're visiting Kampong Gelam or Arab Street area and looking for authentic Minang food, we highly recommend this restaurant. They're located right next to the famous Sultan Mosque. Amongst the diversity found in Singapore, Arab Street shines as a special gem. I love strolling the alleys in this area - there are murals, small shops selling items you would not find elsewhere in Singapore. The food here is great too, although it is pricier than other local food places since this area caters more to tourists. The 100% Arabica coffee shop here is always busy and packed, but it’s a great place to recharge with some coffee. Haji Lane is known for its shops, attracting many tourists and youngsters as a cool place to hang out. Whilst there you can fix up your wardrobe or grab a little something different to take home from your travels. Our favourite place to grab a Singapore souvenir was a shop called Eighty Two Tales. During my staycation at Intercontinental Hotel, I took the opportunity to explore the Kampong Glam area which is about 10 mins walk from the hotel. There are many wall murals along the various lanes in Kampong Glam, from Arab Street , Haji Lane, Victoria Street to Jalan Pisang etc. Some of the wall murals such as the Girl with Lion Cub was fine by the renowned street artist Ernest Zacharevic’s Girl who also did many wall murals in Penang. So head down to Kampong Glam and Arab Street area and start hunting fir these beautiful wall murals. Attractions - Arab Street, Sultan Mosque, Kampong Glam and surrounding During my station at Intercontinental Hotel, I became a tourist in my own country and explored the Arab Street, Kampong Glam and the surrounding areas. The area is so amazing and captivating and full of vibrancy. Rich in history and traditionally a congregation area for Muslim immigration from the past, the area retains the culture and traditions up to today. The modern skyscrapers in the background creates an interesting view and reflects the seamless integration of historical and modern buildings . The first sight that catches your attention in the area is the Sultan Mosque, a landmark of the area with a long history. That’s what you get when you taste the Singapore first mini keria gula melaka. Started from a home business, now, they have a two outlets in Singapore, Bussorah Street and Our Tampines Hub. As their motto is “Made fresh to give you only the best”, your mini keria will be piping hot when you purchased it. It is best eaten when it is still hot however, if you are eating it later, do not worry, it will taste good. Even though, they are opened till 9 pm, they are usually sold out by the evening. You can start from Ophir Road side or Jalan Sultan and make your way systematically to the other side. If you are tired, there are plenty of local and concept cafes for a cold drink. Also, evening is a good time to explore as you can also end the walk with dinner at one of the eateries there. That is why each time I have a staycation around the vicinity of Kampong Glam, I see to it that I stroll along Haji Lane and Arab Street. Hi All, I’m a big, big fan of Turkish dessert, Kunafe.! And blessed to live nearby Arab Street. Sultan Turkish Restaurant has the best Kunafe in Singapore. I’ve tried Kunafe in 10 different places in Singapore, none can beat Sultan’s. The Kunafe are not too sweet, crispy on the outside very cheesy and creamy inside, serve with cream, and Goat Pistachio Ice Cream with gelato like consistency. Definitely a must try if you are around Arab Street. Not to forget the best Apple Tea. Best match ever. The service offered by this hotel management is immaculate; they open a line of communication via WhatsApp a day before check-in to drop a set of instructions. As the staff work a set of hours, they also check-in with you every morning and evening to ensure everything is smooth. The room is compact with a comfortable bed and packed with the basics: hairdryer, iron, iron board. There’s also a mini kitchenette with dining necessities available in the room. However the one drawback is the poor soundproofing. I can literally hear every time my neighbour clears his throat, and whenever he rummages through the drawers and hangers. The hotel offers free laundry service, however the washing machines were right outside my room so I am aware every time it’s in use. As the location is near a mosque, it’s understandable to hear prayers albeit a short duration of time. The streets are relatively quiet day in and night out. But the main nemesis is the dance studio right next door so there will be loud music pounding on the walls in the evenings. You can even hear the instructor loud and clear. The first night lasted for an hour, whereas on the second night the class went on from 7:30-10pm with the same music on repeat.
