🌉 The First Bridge Under Heaven: Nature’s Hidden Marvel
#summervacay
High above the forest floor, 天下第一桥 (Tiānxià Dì Yī Qiáo)—or The First Bridge Under Heaven—isn’t man-made, but carved entirely by nature.
This stunning natural stone arch connects two towering sandstone pillars in the Yuanjiajie Scenic Area of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. With a dizzying drop below and panoramic views all around, it feels like walking on a path made by the gods themselves.
The bridge is a popular photo spot and a heart-pounding highlight on any Zhangjiajie trek. Legend says it’s the meeting place of immortals—and when you stand above the clouds with the wind in your hair, you just might believe it.

Zhangjiajie - no words to describe
#aprilblooms
Zhangjiajie is straight out of a fantasy film—literally, it inspired Avatar. Towering sandstone pillars rise from the mist like floating islands, covered in lush green and wrapped in clouds. It’s nature at its most surreal.
Hiking through the national park feels like entering another world. Glass bridges, cable cars, quiet trails—every turn is a new jaw-dropping view.
It’s one of the most unique landscapes in China, and no photo can fully capture the feeling of being there. You just have to see it for yourself.

The Mystical Beauty of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

A visit to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is a must for nature lovers on a #ChinaTrip. Known for its towering sandstone pillars, this UNESCO World Heritage site inspired the floating Hallelujah Mountains in the movie “Avatar.” The park’s breathtaking views, lush greenery, and scenic cable cars make it a magical experience. Immerse Yourself in the Avatar Mountains
💙 What a stunning sight!! When we arrived in Zhangjiajie, I could see the Avatar Mountains from a distance. I thought they were stunning, even from far away. But oh, I didn't know anything until I finally got to see them up close.
🚠 I opted to take the cable car most of the way up the mountain. You'll have to buy a ticket for the cable car which will cost you around 96rmb round trip! The journey is short, around 6 minutes long, but it's a breathtaking sight.
⛰️ Once up the mountain, you can follow the trails around to see the natural beauty of the mountains. There are multiple look-out spots that are perfect for photos.
🌈 If you're looking for more fun in Zhangjiajie, you can also choose to ride up the Bailong Elevator, the tallest outdoor elevator in the world. This elevator takes you approximately 2 minutes and will cost you 65rmb. This gives you a stunning view of the Hallelujah Mountain, a staple of Zhangjiajie. It is such a unique experience that you don't want to miss.
✨ Zhangjiajie is such a breathtaking place, the Avatar Mountains should definitely be on your travel bucket list!

Full day at glass bridge in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon
#cherryblossom2024
Apart from its main star (the glass bridge), the Grand Canyon offers several activities at additional costs. Such as outdoor bouldering, zip line, slide, boat ride and the hike/walk along the river. All activities ranging from 10 to 50 yuen. There are some more expensive such as bungy jump, but you gotta have guts for that 😅
The views are breathtaking, and besides the glass bridge itself there is an additional glass sidewalk by the mountain.
It’s really worth it 🤩🤩🤩
If you are going to visit the avatar mountains, also pay a visit to this place!

😍 2 perfect days itinerary in Zhangjiajie National Park (Avatar mountains) 🩵 route recommendation
#cherryblossom2024
Zhangjiajie National Park is beautiful and really worth it a visit, but it can be a bit confusing to understand where to go and what is the best way to do the most of your visit.
Here is the itinerary for 2 days visit. Which is pretty enough to see everything ❣️
Day 1 ❗️
Visiting 3 mountains ⛰️ ⛰️ ⛰️
(all views from above)
⛰️ Mountain 1: YuanJiaJie
Get the shuttle bus to Bailong Elevator (it takes 10 min)
- Hike or take the Bailong elevator to the top of YuanJiaJie mountain 🛗
- Walk around the mountain to see the avatar mountains. You will see the Heaven Pillar and pass the number 1 bridge in the world (a natural rock bridge linking two mountains)
⛰️ Mountain 2: YangJiaJie
From the first mountain get another shuttle bus to YangJiaJie mountain (it takes 10 min).
- this mountain doesn’t offer much to do or any nice views, this is the stop to change to the shuttle bus to Tianzi mountain. There is also a cable car here, if you are already tired and want to go to the entrance and leave.
⛰️ Mountain 3: Tianzi Mountain
From the second mountain get another shuttle bus to Tianzi Mountain (it takes 30 minutes)
- at this mountain you will have great views of the avatar mountains. There is a beautiful temple to explore and a big food court. 🍜🥮🍡🍤
- after exploring around, you have two options to go down: cable car + shuttle bus or hike + train + shuttle bus 🚌
Day 2 ‼️
Visit 1 mountain ⛰️ + hike 🥾
(Views from below and above)
- At the entrance get a shuttle bus to Bailong Elevator
🥾 follow the signs to Golden Whip River 💦, the hike along the river takes about 2 hours, but is flat all the way. Here you’ll have views from below 🔼
🚌 When you get at the end of the path, get the shuttle bus to HuangShiZhai cable car.
🚠 buy the round trip
⛰️ once at the top of the HuangShiZhai mountain walk around it until you reach the point where you started, it’s gonna take around 1.5 hours, with magnificent views 🥰
To go down get the cable car back, then the shuttle bus to the entrance.
🤑 Prices
Entrance 248 yuan (entrance + all shuttle buses)
Bailong elevator 65 yuan (one way)
Cable cars varies from 65 to 72 (one way)
The round trip is double price, there is no deal for taking the round way, so it’s not recommended ❗️
✨ extra tip ✨
If you want to take the Bailong Elevator, skip the first elevator lines, and go straight to the Bailong line.
Yes, there is an elevator to get the elevator (if you are taking it to go up). But it’s really faster just take the stairs to go to the line to Bailong elevator. It’s only a couple of stairs and you will save a lot of time 😉

Getting There - From the Zhangjiajie West Railway station you can take a taxi for about 25 km to the South East gate entrance of the park
Attractions - take a cableway from the top of Tianzi Mountain, ride the Bailong elevator, view the floating mountain or simply enjoy the bus ride through the park
Hotels - conveniently placed hotels within 2 km from the park entrance. Zimu Resort and Z Plus Hotel is highly recommended
Food & Restaurants - No western restaurants on this side of the park entrance but there are some Chinese restaurants outside the park entrance and many food options inside the park #zhangjiajie #avatarmountains #hiking #sightseeing #photospots
Gorgeous Avatar mountains (after rain)
Location: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China
Entrance fee: 227¥ (ticket + bus)
Date: July 19, 2022
Avatar mountains are incredible no matter how’s the weather. After the rain or on rainy days the scenery looks more beautiful and mysterious.
As it often rains here, you need to take a raincoat and an umbrella with you or buy them from small shops.
Here we can see a natural bridge, which unites 2 huge peaks. It looks really amazing. People also make wishes and tie them on the bridge.

Gorgeous Avatar mountains (before rain)
Location: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Zhangjiajie, Hunan, China
Entrance fee: 227¥ (ticket + bus)
Date: July 19, 2022
Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is located in the northwestern part of the Hunan Province. It has become popular with tourists from both China and around the world. The park’s unique and stunning scenery has made it a must-visit destination for travelers.
On the way to the Bailong elevator, we can see lots of monkeys. As they’re wild animals, you need to be careful with them. Don’t eat or drink in front of them, otherwise they’ll grab your food😅
Btw Bailong elevator (Bai means hundred and long - dragon) is the tallest, heaviest and fastest outdoor elevator in the world. It is 326m and from the foot to the top we can get in less than 2 mins. The price for the elevator is 75¥ (one way).
It’s better to spend at least 2 days in the park. That would allow you to visit the must-see attractions and enjoy the scenery if the weather is rainy or foggy. As it’s a rainforest, the weather is mainly rainy here, so you need to choose a good time to admire this incredible view.

Find Magic in Zhangjiajie
Zhangjiajie is a wild, tiresome, and magical experience. Now, ever more famous from its role in the Avatar movies, the mountain views are quite unlike anything else in the world.
Taking a trip there is definitely recommended, but be prepared to be tired, to get lost, to be swept up in the crowds of others that you become entangled with at times, and to be prepared to really have an enjoyable experience.
There are so many different routes and trails to take. The cable car up is wonderful and provides some of the best sights you'll ever see, as you're slowly taken up amongst mountains, close enough to reach out and touch them.
The area has a section for Bunjee Jumping, a walkway that goes along the mountain side, a lift to take you up to see the sights around you, a glass bridge and even a zip line across.
There's a lot to enjoy, and it could definitely be experienced over a couple of days. Personally, I felt 1, long day, was more than enough, and provided the experience that would be remembered and to be really taken in.#china #chinatravel #zhangjiajie #avatarmountains
The Avatar Mountains of Hunan - ZhangJiaJie
If you've seen the Avatar movies, you will immediately recognize these mountain landscapes. No matter where you go, the views are breathtaking and unlike any other mountains I've ever seen.
I would recommend visiting the Tianmen Mountain, as it's easily one of the most famous landmarks. Take the escalators up (unless you've got enough energy to take the stairs) and you will be able to get some great pictures from the top. Then, I recommend walking down the steps slowly and take in the view.
Lots of other great sites. One piece of advice is to be extremely careful around the sites with monkeys. They will take your food and are likely to jump on you. Do not carry any food out in the open.

Hard to Capture !!! 😍 The most Amazing Mountains
I don't know how to describe the landscapes I had the chance to be in !! 🥲
No matter how many pictures/videos we see, it is another level when the environment swallows you in and you become part of it.
Sharp edges and spiky mountains, stairs and stairs to the top and relaxing rides on the cable cars
I recommend people climbing up the mountains and taking the cable cars down! feels like a reward after a tough day 😌 . I spent 3 days and that's enough to see pretty much the whole park! it is so convenient as the buses to link different spots saves you some time (and that is included in the National Park ticket price).
just go !!! 😆😆😆

Avatar mountain Zhangjiajie
Tianzi mountain
We came in late November so it was not crowded. I would say it was a perfect time to visit. We took the cable up and walked down. I recommend walking down as there are so many spots on the way to take pictures. There are quite a lot of stairs though mostly down but also up. By the way there is a full size MC Donald’s on top and after traveling for a while is was amazing to have a Mc chicken. I love Chinese food, but can not have it for all my meals.
Bailong Elevator
No lines to enter the lift. The whole ride does not take long however I did think it was worth it. It is breathtaking when you see the view from the lift. I enjoyed it. The ticket was 72 per person. On this top is the main atteaction in my opinion. The most amazing view, at the next shuttle stop.
Daguan platform
We let the shuttle drop us up here and fist we tough we were at the wrong place as we were completely alone, but as we kept walking we found the most amazing views. This is also said to be the best place to see the sunset. We did not make that but wish we would.
Wulong Zhai
We wanted to go to tianbofu however that was closed for renovation so we only walked to WulongZhai instead. Definitely worth the trip. Super nice view, some areas you have to climb and pass very narrow passageways but it made for some very cool pictures. Do not recommend big backpack for this road. Also the view from the bathroom sink alone the way was the best ever. Check my picture of the sink and view. #avatarmountains #Zhangjiajie #hikingtrails #hikingadventures #hunan
Golden whip brook
It is a magical walk. Almost no people, this walk by the river on mainly a flat area was very welcome after climbing the mountain for 2 days. Super nice resting areas and the park is really clean and neat. Toilets along the way. We also saw the wild monkey that mainly hang around the entrances as this are the places where they can find/get food. Most of the trail we were alone and it was amazing. It was more chill here as it is down in the walley.
The Avatar Mountains!!!
Wuling Mountain National Forest Park also known as the Avatar mountains is located in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province.
Highlights: The cable car up and down let's you get close up to these amazing mountain shapes and it feels like you're floating in the sky.
You can also get on a small train to see the monkeys up close.
The view from the top is stunning and reminds me of the scenes in Avatar.
Note: there are lots of monkeys at the top so remember not to get too close. Great for photos though. Check out my pictures for an example.
Hotel: We stayed at the Pullman near the Wulingyuan. Zhangjiajie National Park.

Avatar (Hallelujah) mountain, Zhangjiajie
It was my second time I visited he park since May 2013 and the experience was very different.
1. Herds of tourists (end of July, low risk zone)
2. The weather. In July I was "lucky" to enjoy several days of sunny weather and only 1 day of evening rain and IMHO Zhangjiajie turns into Pandora only when it's rainy - in sunny days these are just other Chinese mountains.
3. Development. I even don't remember where I lived in 2013, most likely in Zhangjiajie town, this July we lived in Wulingyuan, very close to the entrance. Of course this whole area changed, too, together with China
Also due to covid there were a lot of budget and really good options, including the hotel we stayed in.
A few tips: the ticket is for 4 days, don't rush the first day. Prepare in advance, get a map of the park (in our hotel it was available at reception for free). There are some other highlights like glass bridge and Tianmen mountain, the bridge isn't in the park (as I thought before the trip).
Enjoy! #zhangjiajie #avatarmountains

If you loved the beautiful mountains of Pandora from the famous Hollywood director James Cameron's movie "Avatar" then you will absolutely be in love with the Avatar mountains of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Avatar Mountains are the thousands of towering mountain pillars in Yuanjiajie Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in Wulingyuan District of Hunan Province in South China.
📍Getting there - We took a train from Guangzhou to Changsha and then a bus from Changsha to Zhangjiajie. It is very well-connected via train and bus as it is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Zhangjiajie city.
⭐️ Attractions - Zhangjiajie national forest park has many tourist attractions among which Avatar mountains also known as Tianzi mountain is one of my favorites.
Other than this Yuanjiajie and Yangjiajie scenic areas, Bailong elevator, Baofeng lake, Golden whip stream are just a few attractions to name in this forest park.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
Beautiful Zhangjiajie 🌲🏞️ A must see!
Highlights:
-Yuanjiajie (Avatar Mountains)
-Tianzi Mountain (we hiked down the 10 Mile Gallery but you can also take the 🚠 cable car)
-Golden Whip Stream (easy walk, beautiful view from ground level and you will see lots of wild monkeys!🐒)
Entry fee: 227rmb for a 4 day entry pass. Note: Attractions like the Bailong Elevator and cable cars are not included. You will have to pay for these separately.
Getting there: Zhangjiajie is easy to get to by fast 🚆 or ✈️. In the park itself, there are many shuttle buses to take you to the main scenic areas (this is included in the price of your entry ticket).
Food and restaurants: There are a number of food stalls at the main scenic areas, however, bring snacks if you're planning to do a lot of hiking.
Recommendations:
-Beautiful all year round, although try to avoid during national holidays, as this is a major tourist destination.
- Start your day early to avoid the crowds. Check and double check covid restrictions, Zhangjiajie is very strict!
-The best place to stay is Wulingyuan District
-If you want to save money, don't mind a hike and want to avoid the crowds skip the Bailong Elevator. In our opinion it's not worth the wait.
- You can see all the highlights in one day, however, 2 days would better. If you are keen to do all the hiking and surrounding attractions, you could spend a full 4 days here.

Address: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie City
Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport is the nearest airport to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, about 40 km away. To get to the destination you can take a flight to Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport, then take city bus 402, 4 or taxi to Zhangjiajie Central Bus Station, then take a bus to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
Tickets: CNY 228/person, valid for 4 days. Sightseeing bus is included (Bailong elevator is excluded).
I've been crazy about this place for years (after watching Avatar movie of course), but it was a bit far and kinda complicated to get to, so I couldn't fulfill my dream. But finally it happened! It was breathtaking and it's one of the must-visit places in the world. As a part of the natural heritage – Wulingyuan scenic area, Huangshi Village has been well-preserved. Therefore, there are many wild animals living in the mountain, especially wild monkeys. Don't take any food with you (or try to hide it at least), coz monkeys can attack you.
