⛰️ Mount Kinabalu Adventures: Part 2
#wecreate
🚶♀️Mt Kinabalu is one of the highest mountains in South East Asia. It is a 2D1N hike which requires high stamina and proper training before you attempt to conquer the mountain.
🌄 Day 2 of my climb started at 2am, with a light breakfast consisting of toast & eggs. The entire hike up was in the dark, accompanied by your torchlight.
If you turn around and look back, you will get an awesome view of A Sky Full of Stars (literally) and the far away glow of city lights.
03:00 - Started the 2nd half from Laban Rata Camp (KM6.0)
05:00 - Reached Sayat-sayat checkpoint (KM7.0).
08:00 - Low's Peak! (Summit 4095M)
Summit was beautiful and the views were breathtaking! My only regret is not being well equipped with proper attire to withstand the strong winds and cold temperature. 🥶
💡 For those who are afraid of heights, it's better to get yourself mentally prepared before you attempt this part of the hike. Also, keep in mind that it is a relatively safe hike, but there is only a single white rope to guide you up the rocky surfaces with no extra safety harness.
Be prepared to be challenged mentally and physically. Also, you will need a thick jacket, and perhaps a pair of Kampung Adidas 😆

⛰️ Mount Kinabalu Adventures: Part 1
Mt Kinabalu is one of the highest mountains in South East Asia. It’s part of the Bornean Crocker Range, and looms over the surrounding Sabah jungle.
It is a do-able 2D1N hike, but I would definitely encourage to practice stamina exercise and be physically fit before the attempt.
Here's a recap of my hike on Day 1.
09:30 - Started the hike at Timpohon Gate
13:30-14:00 - Stopped at KM4.0 Layang-Layang station for a quick lunch break
15:10 - Reached KM5.0
17:00 - Arrived at Panalaban (3272.7m elevation)
Just in time for dinner!
The route on the first day transitioned from beautiful forest jungles to desert terrain.
I was slightly taken aback when it started raining at KM2.0, though the forecast said the weather would be good. You would need good Waterproof shoes and an extra pair of socks, because the steps turn into mini slippery waterfalls when it rains. KM5.0 to 6.0 was by far the toughest to hike, with the muddy desert terrain.
Be prepared to be challenged mentally and physically. Also, you will need a thick jacket, and perhaps a pair of Kampung Adidas 😆

🛌 Laban Rata Guesthouse at Mount Kinabalu
#wecreate
Located at 3,272 meters above sea level, Panalaban is the final pit stop before ascending to the summit of Low’s Peak on Mount Kinabalu.
There are several accomodation choices at this midhill pit stop, but the largest has to be the Laban Rata Guesthouse.
🏨 This Guesthouse provides climbers with comfortable lodgings, hot showers and hot meals served buffet style.
💦 Free water is provided from the tap. Remember to fill your bottles up before lights out at 8pm, it can get quite dark downstairs!
🍝 If you have a special diet (vegan etc), the friendly chefs will happily serve separate dishes to cater to your needs. However, ala carte food & drink prices are very pricey here.
💡 My suggestion is to book a 2 night stay at this guesthouse. You'll get more time to recharge your body before making the descent, and a extra climbing window as buffer, just in case of bad weather.
