Winter Wonderland at Princes' Islands, Istanbul!
If you think the Princes' Islands in Istanbul are only pretty in summer — girl, let me tell you, winter turns them into a cozy, magical wonderland!
I hopped on the ferry (so exciting!) with the chilly breeze in my hair and a hot tea in my hand, already feeling like a little explorer.
When we arrived, everything looked straight out of a winter storybook — charming old mansions, winding car-free streets, and tall pine trees swaying gently in the crisp air.
The horse carriages clip-clopped along quietly, and the island felt peaceful, like the world had slowed down just for us. The sea shimmered under a soft winter sun, and the hills were wrapped in misty layers that made everything feel a little mysterious... and a lot dreamy!
Walking around, bundled up in my coat and scarf, I couldn’t stop smiling.
Princes' Islands in winter? 100% magical, cozy, and unforgettable!

Heybeliada: A Peaceful Escape from Istanbul
Located just 90 minutes from central Istanbul by ferry, Heybeliada is the perfect retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle. Ferries are comfortable, with cozy indoor seating or open decks where you can enjoy the sea breeze. For just around $0.50, treat yourself to a warm Turkish tea as you sail across the Marmara Sea.
While the Princes’ Islands can be crowded during the warmer months, I highly recommend visiting from October to March. In the off-season, the tranquility of Heybeliada truly shines, offering a much-needed break from the city's constant noise.
Heybeliada is a small but charming island that’s easy to explore. I walked the entire island in about two hours at a brisk pace, covering around 12 kilometers. The island features a mix of picturesque wooden buildings and lush greenery, with hilly terrain reaching elevations of 150–200 meters, offering rewarding views from the top.
The island is home to a handful of restaurants, grocery stores, and even some ferry stations for convenient departures back to Istanbul or to nearby islands. Ferries run roughly every 30 minutes, and schedules are easily accessible via Google Maps.
What really sets Heybeliada apart is its peaceful, welcoming atmosphere. It’s the ideal spot to slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and soak in the island’s charm. Allocate at least half a day to explore, or a full day if you prefer a more relaxed pace.
With other islands just 15–30 minutes away by ferry, Heybeliada can also serve as a gateway to more adventures in the Princes’ Islands.
