Neuschwanstein Castle is very different from other castles I have visited in Europe. It is built from a fairy tale dream with medieval designs and lots and lots of money. The castle does not allow us to take photos inside but when we went inside we could see the chandeliers are made with solid brass and precious gems. The paintings are all with medieval myths. This Castle is also called the “swan castle” because there are lots of swan elements in the castle such as the swan sculpture, the swan pattern on the drapery, swans on the moldings, and swans on the paintings and the custom-made furniture. The only regret I had when I came to Turkey this time was that I didn’t see the real Trojan Horse with my own eyes. I only took pictures of the small wooden horse sold in the souvenir shop (luckily I took pictures as a souvenir)😂😂😂It is said that the wooden horse was already under renovation at the beginning of this year. The Zindan Jail is very close to the Ark of Bukhara and it stands for haunting memories of torture, horror and incarceration. It is however very much worthwhile to visit, as in every culture there are expressions of the darkest strands of human nature. Uzbekistan is no exception and the Zindan Jail keeps it all real for us as tourists. Despite its similarity in appearance with the Ark, the Zindan jail is relatively modern as an 18th century structure. Now a museum, the Zindan Jail has the official name of The Museum of History of Law and Court System of Bukhara. In Persian, the word “Zindan” means “dungeon.” Inside this prison is the infamous “Bug Pit,” the Fourth Cell, a space below ground that was dark, damp, infested with bugs, rodents and even snakes. Some sources say that these tortuous creatures were dropped by the Uzbeks into the pit. Known as the “kanakhona,” the 6.5-meter deep pit was “covered with an iron grill. Accessible only via a long 6-meter rope, the Bug Pit was reserved for the least favorite” of prisoners. It is said that in those conditions prisoners only stay alive for about three days. The Bug Pit was where the two British soldiers, Stoddart and Connolly, that angered the Emir, were kept, tortured and horrified, before they were executed in the Registan before the Ark. Other than the two famous British prisoners, the prisoners that ended up in the Zindan Jail were debtors and those that failed to practice religion. From the first photo, you can see how excited I am😘☺️ I bravely stuck my head out of the train despite the waterfall❗❗❗ Bangkok to Kanchanaburi Kanchanaburi is located 129km west of Bangkok. Kanchanaburi in Thailand has become a popular tourist destination due to the Bridge on the River Kwai, which is rich in historical significance. The vibrant colors captured by the train passing through are stunning, and many tourists, including myself, go crazy taking rare railway scenery photos by sticking their heads out of the windows🤣😆 I even got sprayed by the waterfall❗️ Riding the Thai-Burma Railway for an hour, walking on a bridge with such historical significance is truly overwhelming. This bridge reflects the scenes of World War II: back then, the Japanese army occupied the Thai border and forced Allied prisoners of war to build a railway connecting Burma and Siam. This railway was completed at the cost of countless precious lives, hence the name "Death Railway." The Bridge on the River Kwai is a part of it, known as the throat of the "Death Railway." Walking on the last section of the bridge has some height differences, so be careful not to step into the gaps😂

The theme of security and protection has been prominently featured in the diaolou’s that I have visited in Kaiping. But Nan Lou is perhaps the only diaolou that came with an official history in the defense of the nation. From afar, the Nan Lou stands tall and proud as a testament of war history in a dedicated garden space. While its appearance does not stand out from the rest of the diaolou’s I have seen, it breathes history in a wholly different manner, as shown in the permanent scars on its exteriors. These are the bullet holes inflicted on the building by the invading Japanese troops of World War II. The moving heroism of the Situ brothers that defended this tower is what makes the Nan Lou a must-see diaolou in Kaiping. Like so many of the diaolou’s in Kaiping, Nan Lou was meant to guard against bandits. Built in 1912, Nan Lou stood at a location of critical strategic value, ashore the Tanjiang River and the neighboring road network into Chikan. The Situs built this 7-story reinforced concrete tower. Nan Lou was fortified. On each floor there were gunholes, observation decks, machine guns and searchlights. Situ Xu, leading six other members of the Kaiping Situ Self-Defense Forces, raged a staunch resistance here in Nan Lou against the onslaught of the Japanese into Chikan. Situ Xu was an overseas Chinese himself. He lived in Nanyang (Southeast Asia) for a long time, and returned to his homeland specifically intending to organize the resistance movement against Japanese invasion. He set up the Kaiping Situ Self-Defense Forces, who managed to stall Japanese advances in this area by winning a few battles in 1944 and 1945. On July 17, 1945, the Japanese forces had closed in on Chikan. They surrounded this area with additional troops arriving on the Tanjiang River. They ambushed the Nan Lou at night.
