why you absolutely should travel too zhangjiajie
If there’s one place that truly made me appreciate the beauty of nature, it’s Zhangjiajie. Nestled in Hunan Province, this breathtaking landscape of towering sandstone pillars, misty peaks, and lush forests felt like stepping into a dream. One of the highlights of my trip was exploring Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the inspiration behind the floating mountains in Avatar. Walking through the towering quartz-sandstone peaks, I felt like I was in a fantasy world. The air was crisp, the scenery was surreal, and every turn revealed a new perspective of nature’s masterpiece.#travel #zhangjiaje

Why avoid Zhangjiajie avatar mountain
I went to the Zhangjiajie National forest park in October on a weekday and it was a bit of a sad experience. If you live in a western country, you might feel the same about this beautiful place as it is wayy too over commercialised.
There are throngs of people arriving from 8am, who are pushy and shouting and spitting and taking photos in somewhat of an inconsiderate way. I did that too of course haha but felt a bit nostalgic for a an unpaved, quiet environment to experience the mountain calmly and have more of a spiritual peace that mountains can sometimes bring. 1hr at the avatar mountain was enough for me. Take the overpriced Bailong elevator (65yuan for a 50sec ride with 25other people squished together sweating) so you can finish it faster and move on to the other nearby mountain eg Tianzishan. Where i had more moments of peace (5-10mins without tour groups) at some of the viewpoints and manually walking down the mountain. I hate to recommend it as that would bring more commercialisation but there it is - Oct 2024 feedback.

A Glimpse of Zhangjiajie National Park
Nestled in the heart of China's Hunan province lies a natural wonderland that seems plucked straight from the imagination: Zhangjiajie National Park. Recently, I had the privilege of exploring this breathtaking destination, albeit only half of it, and I must say, the experience left an indelible mark on my soul.
From the moment we entered the park, we were greeted by a landscape that defied belief. Towering sandstone pillars, lush greenery, and misty valleys stretched out before us, painting a scene so surreal it felt like stepping into the mythical world of Pandora from James Cameron's "Avatar."
The highlight of our journey undoubtedly came when we laid eyes upon the famed Avatar Mountains, also known as the Hallelujah Mountains. These towering pillars, which served as inspiration for the otherworldly landscapes in the film, loomed majestically against the horizon, their jagged peaks disappearing into the clouds. It was a moment of pure awe, standing in the presence of such natural grandeur.
And what views we found! At every vantage point, we were treated to panoramas of staggering beauty—towering peaks, deep gorges, and dense forests stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a symphony of nature, a visual feast that left us speechless.#Zhangjiaje #hiking #avatar
