🌿 Strolling Through Hanoi’s Temple of Literature – A Journey Back to Vietnam’s Scholarly Roots
Took a leisurely (and sweaty!) stroll from the Old Quarters to the historic Temple of Literature, one of Hanoi’s most iconic landmarks. The walk was scenic but the sun was merciless, so I absolutely had to grab an iced Vietnamese coffee en route – no regrets! ☀️🥵☕️
The Temple of Literature is Hanoi's first university, dating back to 1070, and it beautifully blends peaceful gardens, ancient wisdom, and cultural pride. Despite the sunshine and early coffee pit stop, the serene atmosphere and historic architecture made it a highlight of my visit.
🎫 Oh—and yes, Trip.com had my ticket sorted before I stepped foot on the grounds—smooth and stress-free!
Getting There:
Walkable from Old Quarter, or easily reachable via Grab/taxi (around 60k–70k VND)
💡Trip tip: Bring water or pick up a drink before you enter. There’s limited shade, especially mid-day. Dress modestly: Cover shoulders and knees out of respect for this historic shrine
📸 A must-see if you're in Hanoi – perfect for history lovers, culture explorers, and photographers alike.

This temple translates to Thai as the Temple of Literature. It is also known as Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam. It was built in 1805 to honor Confucius, the God of Education.
This temple is a national university. It was the place where the Dai Viet people took their exams until the capital was moved to Hue.
Every year on Tet, which is the Vietnamese New Year, calligraphers gather to write blessings in Chu Han characters to be used as gifts or decorations for the house.
This temple is located next to the park. There is only one way in and out from the park.

Captivating Hanoi: A City of Timeless Charm
Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, offers a seamless blend of old-world charm and modern vibrance. Start your day with a stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, where locals gather for Tai Chi and the iconic Ngoc Son Temple sits serenely. Dive into history at the Temple of Literature, a peaceful sanctuary dedicated to Confucian learning. Don’t miss the bustling Old Quarter, where narrow streets are alive with street food vendors, boutique shops, and traditional crafts.
For accommodations, I recommend staying at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, a luxury hotel that reflects the city’s French colonial history. The hospitality is unmatched, and its central location makes exploring Hanoi effortless.
If you’re a foodie, indulge in authentic pho at a roadside stall or savor the city’s famous egg coffee at Giang Cafe. Hanoi truly has something for every traveler – from rich culture to delectable cuisine.

Amazing Western Hanoi
It is no exaggeration to say that #Hanoi is a city that is a must-visit on any trip to #Vietnam. Hanoi's #OldTown stretches from #HoaLoPrison to the north, and #DongXuanMarket, and most tourists gather here, but the area west of #HanoiStation is also full of charm.
The building known as the #TempleofLiterature is also a component part of the #WorldHeritage, and on #TrainStreet, trains pass right in front of you.
The west side of Hanoi Station has a modern impression since the opening of the metro, and has a different atmosphere to the Old Town. #worldheritagesite #hanoi #vietnam #templeofliterature
