A Sea Faring History of Hong Kong — The Maritime Museum
The Maritime Museum is perhaps the only private museum in Hong Kong. The Maritime Museum features a few exhibitions over a few decks. Exhibit Halls B and C on China and Hong Kong’s maritime history are must-see collections. They show good snapshots of China and Hong Kong’s seafaring history in the past.
The exhibition on China’s maritime history was inspiring. Historical objects, be they actual relics or replica models of ancient vessels, induced a sense of appreciation with significant room for imagination. That said, the Hong Kong part of the exhibition presents a familiar picture of a much more modern time. Perhaps it is more factual and precise in terms of both the science and the history. The models of the Star Ferry can easily be everybody’s favorite.
The Museum Café lies just one floor above the Maritime Museum. It serves coffee and light refreshments, and a terrace for outdoor dining. All their food is reheated before serving customers, so you can expect a simple menu that does not require proper kitchen preparation. Their coffee is a standard selection.
Adult tickets cost $30 per entry. All other types of concession tickets cost $15.

Helen Yu (Chestnut Journal) Denmark's Hidden Gem: The Danish Maritime Museum! 🚢⚓🇩🇰
#summervacay
On my way out of Copenhagen, I followed the train tracks to Helsingør, and that's where I discovered the incredible Danish Maritime Museum (M/S Museet for Søfart)!
Founded in 1915, this museum is a treasure trove, housing artifacts and permanent exhibitions related to Danish maritime history and shipping from the 15th century all the way to the present day. It's fascinating! 🌊
The museum itself is a marvel of design! Conceptualized as a "deck," it gradually descends from ground level, creating a massive 7600 square meter underground space. This clever design limits its height to preserve the stunning views of nearby Kronborg Castle – how thoughtful!
I visited during that charming time of summer when the weather shifts between cool and warm. While there, I caught a special exhibition on Korean "haenyeo" (sea women), which was so unique! And what truly left a lasting impression were the powerful exhibits detailing Denmark's trade history with China and India dating back to the Napoleonic Wars. It really gave me a sense of the vast global connections of maritime trade!
Definitely a unique and engaging experience if you're looking for something off the beaten path in Denmark!

Sailing Through History & Serenity: My Southampton Trip Experience
#SouthamptonTrip
If you're looking for a perfect blend of maritime history, modern charm, and coastal serenity, Southampton is a must-visit. My trip to this port city left me with unforgettable memories—and a serious desire to go back!
What struck me first was how seamlessly Southampton weaves its rich nautical past into a vibrant present. I started my journey at the SeaCity Museum, where I learned about the city’s Titanic connection. The museum is incredibly well-curated, and the interactive displays are worth every second. From there, I wandered through the Old Town Walls—some of the best-preserved medieval town walls in England. It’s like walking through time, right in the heart of a buzzing city.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was a peaceful morning at Mayflower Park, watching ferries glide across the Solent while sipping coffee from a local café. The waterfront energy is calming yet alive, especially around Ocean Village. The restaurants there are perfect for an evening meal, with fresh seafood and twinkling harbor lights.
I highly recommend visiting between May and September. The weather is mild, perfect for walking or cycling the city's many green trails, especially in Southampton Common—a lush escape in the middle of urban life.
If you're up for a day trip, hop on a short ferry to the Isle of Wight or explore the nearby New Forest National Park, both easily accessible from the city.
Bonus tips:
Use the Bluestar buses for reliable local travel
Check out the local markets around Bargate for artisanal finds
This trip reminded me how travel doesn’t need to be far-flung to be transformative.

Hong Kong Maritime Museum ⛴️
#hongkongtrip
I recently paid a visit to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, located in a picturesque area by Victoria Harbour. The price of HKD 30 for the maritime journey was definitely worth it. 🚢

Visitors of all ages are able to interact with the displays, making it a fun and engaging experience for the whole family. 👨👩👧👦
The most significant aspect of the trip for me was the museum devoted to the renowned Hong Kong Star Ferry, providing an insight into its historical development and cultural relevance. The commendable attention to detail is evident in the model ships and historical artifacts. 🚢
The proximity of the museum to Central Pier 8 enhances its appeal, providing breathtaking views of the waterfront. ⚓ If you have a passion for the sea or simply want to learn something new, this museum is definitely worth visiting. #HongKongMaritimeMuseum #MaritimeHistory #ExploreHongKong

Ship museum 🗺️
#summerdestinations
This summer, I had an amazing time visiting the Gdańsk Ship Museum, located in the heart of Gdańsk, Poland, along the Motława River. 🛳️⚓ The museum, housed in a beautifully preserved medieval crane, offers a deep dive into the city’s rich maritime history. The entrance fee is about 20 PLN for adults, which is quite reasonable given the extensive exhibits.
Inside, I was fascinated by the impressive collection of ship models, historical artifacts, and interactive displays. One of the highlights was climbing inside a replica of a 17th-century ship, which really gave me a sense of what life at sea was like back then. The museum does a fantastic job of blending historical information with engaging exhibits, making it fun for both adults and kids.
The panoramic view from the crane’s top floor was breathtaking, offering a unique perspective of Gdańsk’s waterfront and the historic Old Town. After the museum, I strolled along the picturesque promenade and enjoyed some local seafood at one of the riverside cafes.
Nearby attractions include the European Solidarity Centre, which is a short walk away and provides insight into Poland’s modern history, and the scenic Long Market, where you can admire the colorful facades of historic buildings. The Gdańsk Ship Museum is a must-visit for anyone interested in maritime history or simply looking for an enriching cultural experience in Gdańsk. #GdańskShipMuseum #MaritimeHistory #VisitPoland #SummerInGdańsk
