A Half-Day Visit to St. Michael’s Church and Tsingtao Brewery in Qingdao 🇨🇳 (Apr 2025) During a half-day visit in Qingdao, we spent the morning exploring the St. Michael’s Church area and its surroundings, followed by an afternoon at the Tsingtao Brewery. The weather was ideal for walking—pleasant spring temperatures ranging between 18 to 20°C, though the occasional spring breeze added a slight chill to the air. St. Michael’s Church, one of Qingdao’s most iconic landmarks, is a prominent example of German Roman Catholic architecture in China. Completed in 1934 during the period of German colonial influence, the church’s twin towers and light yellow façade stand out against the blue sky. The area around the church features cobblestone streets and a calm, almost European atmosphere. A few western-style cafés and small gift shops line the streets, inviting visitors to take a break and enjoy a coffee or browse local souvenirs. The combination of European architectural elements and the relaxed ambiance makes the area pretty charming. After that, we visited the Tsingtao Brewery museum, another historical site that highlights Qingdao’s German colonial past. Founded in 1903 by German settlers, Tsingtao Brewery is one of China’s oldest and most internationally recognized beer brands. The brewery museum offers a look into the early brewing techniques introduced by the Germans, as well as the company’s evolution over the decades. We saw vintage brewing equipment, advertisements from different eras, and learn about the fermentation and bottling processes. It was so great to see the beer-making process and old bottles and cans! The admission fee was worth it~^^ They give you two glasses of beer for free in small glasses! And peanuts, of course! The Sapporo Beer Museum is a museum located in the Sapporo Garden Park in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaidō, Japan. Registered as one of the Hokkaidō Heritage sites in 2004, the museum is the only beer museum in Japan. Opened: 1890 You can reach the museum by bus, taxi or on foot from Sapporo Station and other stations in the area. The best way to get to the beer museum is to catch the Loop 88 Factory Line bus from Odori subway station or from in front of the Tokyu department store. When I visited Qingdao, one of the few recommended places was the beer museum. I went here on my last day, taking a taxi from Qingdao No. 2 Bathing Beach and it cost around 20RMB. There is also a subway station close to the museum which could be used. The beer museum has a range of ticket options. I chose the one which included 6 beers at the end as well as the tour. The tour is self-guided with some interactive areas, around the middle you will be given a beer to try. As far as I believe, this is for anyone taking the tour. There are 2 buildings to explore in the beer museum and a gift shop. It’s quite fun to wander through, I went alone but with a group would be more enjoyable. At the end, you can exchange your wristband for your beers. This gives you a row of 6 if you bought that ticket and you can taste test different beers. #urbanexplorer #qingdao #beermuseum

The Beer Museum in Lisbon is dedicated to the beer making tradition in Portuguese speaking countries. Inside the museum on the upper floors you can go and see how the brewing tradition has developed in Portugal. It’s interesting but fairly small museum. I think the most spectacular part of the whole museum is the street level restaurant and bar. You can sit both inside and outside and taste numerous different types of beers. The inside of the restaurant looks amazing. Everything is decorated beer in mind but the decorations just look amazing. Definitely a place to visit. You can find the beer museum easily from the Terreiro do Paço square in the heart of Lisbon.
