A stunning visit to Chaka Lake
We were fortunate to have perfect weather to explore Chaka Lake, and the experience was nothing short of magical.
Starting early in the morning, we caught one of the first trains, riding all the way to the farthest stop at the lake’s edge. While most visitors walked at the first pier, we opted for a quieter one further away, where the breathtaking scenery could be enjoyed with fewer distractions. The crystalline waters stretched endlessly, reflecting the sky and the mountains so perfectly that it felt like stepping into a dream.
As the morning progressed, more visitors arrived, creating a lively atmosphere. However, we discovered that by walking further out into the lake, away from the bustling crowds, we could still enjoy the peaceful beauty of the mirror-like surface. With the horizon melting seamlessly into the water, it was a surreal sight—one that no photograph could ever truly capture.
Recommendations for the Best Experience:
1. Take the train to the farthest stop—this allows you to explore the lake in a more serene setting before making your way back.
2. Arrive early in the morning - to avoid large crowds and witness the lake at its most tranquil.
3. Seek the perfect mirror effect—this phenomenon is most striking early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sun is lower in the sky.
4. Rent the signature red over-boots for just 10 yuan so you can comfortably wade into the lake and immerse yourself in its beauty.
5. Wear something colorful—bright clothing creates stunning reflections in the lake's mirror-like surface, making your photos pop against the dreamy backdrop. Whether it’s a vivid dress or a colorful scarf, adding a splash of color will make your pictures even more memorable!
If you're planning to visit Chaka Lake, prepare to be mesmerized—it is truly a place where the sky meets the earth in breathtaking harmony.

An Oasis By the Name of Kanbula!
Untouched beauty of Kanbula National Forest Park in Qinghai Province is a hidden gem awaiting your exploration.👀 Nestled amidst pristine landscapes, this reserve offers an enchanting escape from the bustle of everyday life.👥
The desert landscape surrounding Tongren reaches its zenith within this national park, where vibrant crimson mountains converge with the serene turquoise expanse of a reservoir formed by the damming of the Yellow River. 🌊A road that triggers nervous anticipation winds its way up through the park's summits, passing by tranquil Tibetan villages adorned with lively prayer flags fluttering proudly in the brisk breeze.🛕
Embark on a journey of wonder as you traverse through lush meadows, tranquil lakes, and rugged mountains. ⛰️The reserve boasts a diverse range of flora and fauna, showcasing the unspoiled natural habitat of countless species. Whether you're a passionate photographer, a devoted birdwatcher, or simply seeking solace in nature, Kanbula National Forest Park has something for everyone. 🤩
Tips and Tricks:
To reach this destination from Xining, there are regular buses departing every half an hour from the central bus station, operating between 10.30 am and 5 pm. The drop-off point is approximately 7 km away from the park's entrance and is called - 康杨镇. Taxis are available to transport you for ¥10 per person to the entrance. 🚖Keep in mind that the final return bus is around 4.30 pm, necessitating an early departure to avoid being stranded.(Timetable can vary depending on season)
If you're on a budget and don't want to use Kanbula National Forest Park's provided buses which might cost up to ¥200 per person. We recommend on talking to the drivers at the taxi stand and negotiate the price for a tour. We paid ¥300 together for tour through the park and additional ¥40 for getting from the taxi stand to the park and back (each way ¥20).🙃
Exchange WeChat contacts with your driver in case if you decide to spend a little bit more time to appreciate one of the viewpoints or in case if you want him/her to pick you up at other end of one of many staircases that traverse the park. 🏃🏃♀️
Ask a taxi driver to drop you off at the bus stop to Xining after you're done exploring the park and they will gladly do so.❤️
Enjoy!
