If you’re looking for a cozy and affordable place to dine by the river in Malacca, you have to check out Waronk Melaka!
Located right by the famous Melaka River, Waronk offers a beautiful dining experience without the hefty price tag.
As the sun sets and the lights reflect off the water, the whole place transforms into a super relaxing and romantic spot. It’s perfect whether you’re here for a casual meal with friends or a quiet dinner date.
What’s on the Menu:
• Local favourites like nasi lemak, chicken chop, grilled seafood and more.
• Western options like pastas and burgers if you want something different.
• Plenty of drinks — from fresh juices to coffee and mocktails.
Prices are really reasonable, especially considering the location and view. Most mains are around RM10–RM20, making it one of the more affordable river dining options in the area!
Why I Loved It:
• Dining by the river with the cool evening breeze felt amazing.
• The atmosphere was laid-back and unpretentious — just good food, good views, and good vibes.
• Perfect spot for both tourists and locals who want to enjoy the Melaka River scenery without breaking the bank.
Personal Tips:
• Come just before sunset (around 6PM) to catch the most beautiful lighting.
• Ask for a river-facing table for the best views.
• Bring insect repellent if you’re sensitive to mosquitoes — it’s an open-air setup.
• Cash and e-wallets are accepted, but it’s good to have small change just in case.
Malacca is full of charming riverside cafes and restaurants, but Waronk Melaka stands out for being affordable, scenic, and super chill. If you want a memorable meal without the touristy crowds, this is definitely a spot worth adding to your Malacca food trail!

Xizhou Baba: Dali’s Flaky, Hearty Flatbread You Can’t Miss!
Xizhou baba is a must-try delicacy if you find yourself in Dali, Yunnan Province, China. This traditional flatbread is a local favorite, known for its flaky texture and versatility. You can enjoy it plain, sweetened with brown sugar, or topped with a fried egg, making it a perfect breakfast or street snack. The bread’s flakiness is reminiscent of a well-made pastry, and its hearty nature means just one is enough to keep you full. The best way to experience Xizhou baba is fresh out of the oven, when the crust is at its crispiest and the flavors are most vibrant.
During my visit to Dali’s ancient town, I stumbled upon a small street vendor selling Xizhou baba. The aroma of freshly baked bread drew me in, and I decided to try all three flavors—plain, sweet with brown sugar, and topped with a fried egg. The plain version was simple yet delicious, with a satisfying crunch. The sweet version had a delightful caramel-like flavor from the brown sugar, while the egg-topped version was rich and hearty, perfect for a filling breakfast.
I highly recommend trying Xizhou baba not only for its taste but also for its cultural significance. It’s a simple yet iconic representation of Yunnan’s culinary heritage. Pair it with a cup of local tea, and you’ve got yourself a delightful snack that captures the essence of Dali.
💰Average Price per Person:At just about 10 Chinese yuan, it’s an affordable and satisfying treat that won’t break the bank.

Cơm gà Mom for affordable and delicious Hoi An Chicken Rice!!
#traveldiaries
Hoi An Cơm gà or chicken rice was brought to Hoi An by Chinese traders in the feudal age. Since then, this dish has been popular in Central Vietnam, especially in Quang Nam, where high-quality chicken are raised.
Hoi An chicken rice is made from good steamed rice and chicken. The rice is steamed with pineapple leaves for a good aroma. Locals add some turmeric powder on the rice to color it.
The dish is served with a bowl of soup made from boiling chicken and eggs, as well as a sweet and sour sauce. Hoi An chicken rice is served with salad, which has shredded green papaya, carrot, and herbs grown in the nearby Tra Que vegetable village.
Hoi An chicken rice is a delicate dish that can be enjoyed for every meal of the day. It is said that “if you haven’t tried Hoi An chicken rice, you have not truly been to Hoi An”.
Cơm gà Mom is a pretty little shop at the edge of the Hoi An ancient town… they serve up a good meal for local / affordable prices!!!
The price is only 35k for a cơm gà / small Hoi An chicken rice (which is still pretty generous in size). Everything taste awesome, the soup is flavourful and all the elements compliment each other well.
The bowl with vegetables in with broth is to drink. The other bowl sauce which is used to pour over the rice and chicken.
I also ordered the Tra Hoa Atiso Do, their hibiscus, chia seed and aloe vera drink..
So if you want some good honest and decently priced food and not to be ripped off, stop by here!!!
