Ella’s famous train ride in Sri Lanka is a must-see! Walking from town to the Nine Arches Bridge is peaceful and full of greenery. It will take around 20-30 minutes to reach there by walking. Trees, hills, and fresh air surround the path, I absolutely loved the experience! The bridge itself is stunning, and watching the train cross is magical. It’s the perfect mix of nature and adventure. It is definitely a beautiful experience for any traveler visiting Sri Lanka. Galle Dutch Fort is a 16th century Portuguese fort with a church, a lighthouse, a museum and other things and which is quite big. ☝🏻Tips: When entering the fort area there will be many people offering guide services including tuk-tuk drivers, they will be telling you that the area is very big and it will be very difficult for you to explore it by yourself and find the best spots. This is actually not true. The area is quite big, true, but perfect for those who love walking and my recommendation is to mark the best spots on your map so you don’t miss them. The most recommended attraction is Gal Vihara, where the stone Buddha statues are amazing: the standing, sitting and lying Buddha statues are unique and delicately carved, perfectly demonstrating the exquisite level of ancient craftsmanship. In addition, strolling through the ruins of the royal palace and the four-sided pagoda, you can feel the atmosphere of the prosperity of the dynasty. It is recommended to rent a bicycle and explore the entire ancient city leisurely to avoid walking too long under the scorching sun. During my trip to Colombo, one of the most visually captivating landmarks I visited was the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque, also known as the Red Mosque. Located in the heart of Pettah, this mosque is a stunning blend of Indo-Saracenic architecture and vibrant red-and-white candy-striped patterns that make it stand out in the busy streets of the city. The moment I saw the mosque, I was blown away by its unique design—it almost looks surreal, like something out of a fairytale or a Wes Anderson film. Built in 1909, it holds deep cultural and historical significance, not just as a place of worship but also as a symbol of Colombo’s rich heritage. Visitors are welcome outside of prayer times, and I found the staff to be respectful and kind. They offered guidance on proper attire and where visitors could walk. The interior is just as impressive, with intricate tile work, high domes, and peaceful vibes that contrast beautifully with the bustle of the surrounding market streets. A mosque in Colombo known for its red and white patterned facade. The architecture is so beautiful and unique. Don’t skip that place and go inside. Even if you are not a Muslim, there are special timings when it’s allowed for all visitors. Small tip: there are many entrances to the mosque, you need the one for tourists and there is a schedule on the door or you can just simple ask some people there. That’s what I did: I read about the timing for visitors in the internet and came there but it was closed so the schedule said the tour will start in 30 mins. And I came back in hall an hour and that tour was beautiful! First, they give you special dresses covering your body. Second, you will have a very interesting story about the mosque and the tour around it. In the end they let you visit the rooftop and it’s truly insane and beautiful. The pictures are allowed. As the sun rose over the misty hills of Kandy, I made my way to the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a place steeped in history and spirituality. The air was thick with the scent of incense, and the sound of drums echoed through the courtyard, setting a reverent tone for the day. Entering the temple, I was struck by the intricate wood carvings and the sense of serenity that pervaded the space. Pilgrims, dressed in white, moved slowly, their hands clasped in prayer, as they approached the shrine that houses the sacred tooth of Buddha. The golden canopy glinted in the soft light, a testament to the devotion and craftsmanship that have preserved this relic through the ages.
