[Nagano] A hidden hot spring town! How to enjoy Shibu Onsen
We will introduce a model itinerary for Shibu Onsen in Nagano Prefecture that you can fully enjoy for 1 night and 2 days 🙇🏽♀️ There are few tourists especially on weekdays, so you can relax without worrying about people watching, which is recommended for couples and families!
[Access] From Nagano Station, take the Nagano Electric Railway to the last stop, Yudanaka Station. We recommend the express train here!! You can board for an additional 100 yen 👏🏽 If you reserve a reserved seat, you can enjoy the snowy scenery from the observation seat at the front as shown in the photo💕
The car I rode in can be reserved one month in advance for only 300 yen! You can reserve a private seat in the other Snow Monkey car for the same price. You can make a reservation from the Nagano Electric Railway's website. You can purchase a ticket from Nagano Station to Yudanaka Station for 1,190 yen + 100 yen express fare (Suica and PASMO cannot be used). You can only pay with a credit card for reserved seats, and you only need to show it when asked after boarding.
[Jigokudani Monkey Park] Next, we went to Jigokudani Monkey Park, which is about a 15-minute bus or taxi ride from Yudanaka Station. It's a popular spot for foreigners, too, where you can see monkeys taking a bath! After walking for about 30 minutes on the snowy road from the parking lot, we finally reach the entrance. In winter, we recommend wearing non-slip shoes such as snow boots ☃️ (There are rental shops!)
The 30-minute snowy road was not a problem at all in the fantastic space ☺️
Address: 6845 Heijo, Yamanouchi-machi, Shimotakai-gun, Nagano Prefecture
Opening hours: Summer (April to October) 8:30 to 17:00 Winter (November to March) 9:00 to 16:00 There are no closed days and no set hours, so please check.
Cost: Adults (18 years old and over) 800 yen Children (elementary school students to high school students) 400 yen
[Shibu Onsen] Next, we finally head to Shibu Onsen. After checking in at the inn, we borrowed a key and changed into yukata to go on a tour of the nine hot springs!
The tour of the nine hot springs is free for those who stay at Shibu Onsen. You go around the nine outdoor baths, each with a different source and effect, while stamping your prayer hand towel.
Finally, if you visit Shibutaka Yakushi, which overlooks the hot spring town, and receive a seal, your wish will come true ⛩ It is said that it will wash away the nine (painful) toils, ward off evil spirits, grant safe childbirth and childcare, and grant eternal youth and longevity ✨
I couldn't see everything in one day, so I got up early the next morning and went around the rest 😌
[Inn] The inn I stayed at this time was Sakaeya, a wonderful inn where you can enjoy delicious food and a private sauna 🥺 The next day, I took my time sightseeing in Shibu Onsen and returned home. It's a spot I want to go back to again to see the old-fashioned scenery, the metal fittings shop that was the model for Spirited Away, and the gourmet food 🤍
