🇸🇬Buddha Tooth Relic Temple佛牙寺, Chinatown
#2024wish
This is one of the legendary temples in Singapore that attracts many visitors be it local or foreigner. It's said to have kept a tooth purportedly belongs to one of the most famous religious figures in history—the Buddha. The tooth is now kept at the fourth storey of the temple in the Sacred Light Chamber and it's only available for viewing within certain hours. Even if it's not for the Buddha's tooth, I would think that this temple worth a visit due to its design that is inspired by classical architecture from China’s Tang Dynasty and the principles of the Buddhist Mandala.

Tiong Bahru Market is definitely the gem in this estate. It is known for it's cheap and delicious food. The market has two floors where downstairs is a wet market which stalls selling fresh meat, fish, vegetables and flowers could be seen. The second level is a food centre that houses many famous food such as Tiong Bahru Pau, Lor Mee and Prawn mee. Big crowd could be seen especially on weekends.

A Kopitiam experience: Toast Box Tiong Bahru☕️
#singapore
Toast Box has a latest outlet on Seng Poh Road, Tiong Bahru. Its design is intended to recreate the kopitiam experience with beautiful and open style concept. The retro ambiance is further enhanced by the vintage memorabilia and displays. They also serve a more expansive menu compared to the rest of the outlets. Some new items I noticed was the Lemon Cream Toast and Black Sesame Toast. Toast Box Coffee House is a wonderful spot that should not be missed if you are ever in the area.

🇸🇬Murals in Tiong Bahru, let’s get creative!
#singapore
Tiong Bahru is a place that has no lack of pretty murals. There are a few that I could spot around the area such as the "Goat Family". It was so so adorable and it was just outside the Tiong Bahru market. The next one would be the "Peacock" which is in the Tiong Bahru market. This is an artwork by Australian artist Mike Makatron that covers a three-storey walls. It was such a nice scene to have interesting murals randomly spotted in this neighbourhood.

🇸🇬A walk through history:Fuk Tak Chi Museum
#singapore
Fuk Tak Chi Museum is such a well preserved building. The entrance might look unassuming but it pesents a small yet instructive collection of artifacts, exhibits, and interactive displays that depict the lifestyles, traditions, and challenges faced by the Chinese community during Singapore's formative years. The miniature display of how life was in the 1820s is so so interesting which it recreated scenes of old Chinatown, traditional costumes, and learn about the customs and rituals of the early Chinese settlers. It is very educational and good to spend about 30 minutes here to walk through the history.

Tower of Sculpture-Sri Mariamman Temple,SG🇸🇬
#2024wish
I had a chance to visit Sri Mariamman during my solo city walk. Never would I have thought that this little temple sitting in Chinatown would be so marvelous. There is beautiful and colorful architecture with plenty of intricately designed details and it is best appreciated from up close. The temple's meticulous maintenance is truly commendable, it's extremely clean and the serene ambience within the temple grounds was captivating. Do note that visitors are required to remove their footwear and dress appropriately. It's very thoughtful of the temple to have outside for visitors to leave their footwear and saree for loan.

Telok Ayer Green:A Park Amidst Old Shophouses
#singapore
Telok Ayer Green is a hidden green space sandwiched between two national monuments, the Thian Hock Keng temple and Nagore Durgha Shrine. One of the most notable features of Telok Ayer Green are statues depicting the early settlers who once lived in the area. Each statue in the park depicts a snapshot of the life of our ancestors in colonial history, from a Chinese street procession to a transaction between Indian settlers. Telok Ayer Green is also a great pitstop for me to take a break after a long cultural walk in this area and enjoy the serenity amidst the bustling streets.

🇸🇬The magnificent Thian Hock Keng temple
#singapore
Thian Hock Keng is such an architectural masterpiece. It played an important role back in 1800s for worshipping of Mazu, the Chinese sea goddess and is one of the oldest and most important temples of the Hokkien people in Singapore. I went there on a Sunday afternoon and it was quiet and peaceful. A lot of history and interesting meanings behind this temple starting from the stone stairs leading into the temple itself. I could see intricate carvings, sculptures, and decorations made from wood, stone, tiles, and porcelain at every corner of the temple. It's truly amazing and a nice afternoon spent on admiring the architectural details.
