Český Krumlov, Czech Republic: My Summer Wanderings & Photo Hotspots! ☀️🏰
#summervacay
This is a belated photo dump from my summertime trip to the charming town of CK (Český Krumlov) last month. Summer truly is a fantastic season to visit the European countryside, with lush greenery and vibrant skies – it was absolutely beautiful!
My Favorite Photo Hotspots:
Panoramic Shot Before Entering Town: Even before officially entering the town, I managed to capture a stunning panoramic shot of the beautiful town, which was truly breathtaking.
Must-Visit Viewpoint by the Main Road: Along the main road leading into town, there's an unmissable viewpoint. While the flowering trees might not be in full bloom like spring, the lush green foliage was just as appealing and made for a perfect photo backdrop under the summer sun.
Preserved Medieval Charm: The entire town has wonderfully maintained its medieval appearance. The central square is surrounded by numerous distinctive medieval buildings, making it feel like stepping back in time.
Classic Castle Tower Shot Through Alleyways: By weaving through the narrow alleys, I found classic spots to frame the castle tower. Capturing it through the depth of the alleyways added a unique charm to the photos.
Town Panorama from Castle Hill Cave: From an opening in the castle on the hilltop, you can get a full panoramic view of the town. The winding Vltava River and the layered river valley scenery were simply stunning and incredibly refreshing to see under the summer sky.
Food Recommendation:
Svejk Restaurant: I'd also like to recommend Svejk Restaurant in town. I found it to be much better than the Svejk in Prague, and their grilled ribs are definitely worth trying!
Address: Latrán 12, 381 01 Český Krumlov 1
Český Krumlov is truly a captivating small town. Whether you're a history buff or a photography enthusiast, you're sure to find something to love here, especially with the pleasant summer weather!

#summervacay
What a delightful journey to Rye, a truly captivating medieval town just outside London! Even the train ride was charming, providing a lovely encounter with a British woman who shared fascinating insights about her hometown. She revealed that Rye, once a Roman iron depot and later a key member of the Cinque Ports, boasts a rich history, including the defiant construction of the Landgate and Ypres Tower after a 14th-century French attack. This town is simply brimming with historical treasures!

These ancient, crooked timber-framed buildings lean and twist with age, making you feel as though you've walked straight into a fairytale illustration. Sunny San Gimignano
The medieval town of San Gimignano is a kind of place that you can fall in love with at first sight. It is not of the same grand sophistication as Florence, the city of culture. Yet San Gimignano has a long history of its own. As a UNESCO heritage known as the “city of towers,” San Gimignano is a lot more idyllic and rustic. It shows the glory of its days in a down-to-earth wholesomeness. For the colors of San Gimignano are much more earthy than that of Florence, Lucca or Siena. Its buildings are relatively plain as compared to the elaborate architecture in Florence and Siena, but nonetheless stately in their stature.
The ancient town glimmers under the Tuscan sun. We came upon the view of the Tuscan fields afar. It reminds me of the many intangible treasures that makes Italy’s world-famous heritage. Indeed, San Gimignano is known for its Vernaccia grapes. And these grapes make great white wine. At the Piazza della Cisterna we came across the old well that used to be the main source of fresh water for the ancient town. The well is dated to the year 1346. However, much of the restoration took place during the 20th century.
It was clear that the Piazza della Cisterna was the very center of communal life for San Gimignano. Pedestrians, musicians, pets, tourists, businesses all gravitated toward it. It was in this square that we felt the spirit of San Gimignano, a cheerful buzz matching the vibe of a perfectly sunny afternoon. The Piazza radiated charm upon the uniformly archaic character of the town.
In most other parts of the town, however, the streets were quiet. Anyone could feel the ease in a leisurely, solitary walk. This encouraged a measured appreciation of the town’s beauty. Known for its medieval towers, San Gimignano’s beauty was, first and foremost, seen as one looked up to marvel at the town’s Romanesque and gothic architecture.

Monemvasia was beautiful 🇬🇷
#traveldiaries
Just came back from an unforgettable visit to Monemvasia, and I’m still in awe! 🏰 This medieval town, built on a massive rock connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway, is something straight out of a fairy tale. Walking through the stone streets, you feel like you’ve stepped into another era. The entrance to the town is free, but if you want to visit the fortress at the top, it’s around 4 euros. The climb is totally worth it for the stunning views of the sea and the town below 🌊.
Exploring the ancient churches and charming alleys, I couldn’t believe how well-preserved everything is. One of my highlights was sipping coffee at a little café overlooking the Aegean, with the breeze coming off the water—absolute bliss! If you’re into history, Monemvasia is a dream, and for beach lovers, Pori Beach is just a short drive away.

Limburg Germany 🇩🇪
#myhiddengems
Limburg, Germany, is like stepping back in time! 🏰 This charming medieval town, located on the Lahn River, has some of the most beautiful half-timbered houses I’ve ever seen. The streets are narrow and winding, filled with colorful buildings that date back to the 13th century. One of the highlights was the Limburg Cathedral (Limburger Dom), with its distinctive Romanesque architecture and vibrant colors. Entry is free, which is a bonus! Inside, the vaulted ceilings and historic artwork are breathtaking. ⛪
I spent hours just wandering around the old town, stumbling upon cozy cafes, boutique shops, and hidden courtyards. The historic Römer 2-4-6 house is a must-see; it’s one of the oldest half-timbered houses in Germany and offers a glimpse into medieval life. 🏠 For a relaxing moment, I sat by the Lahn River, watching boats drift by and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The Alte Lahnbrücke (Old Lahn Bridge) provided some of the best views of the town and cathedral. 🌉
If you have time, there’s a lovely walking trail along the river, perfect for nature lovers. Nearby, you can visit the enchanting Braunfels Castle, just a short drive away. Limburg is an ideal spot for history buffs and anyone who appreciates old-world charm! #trip #LimburgGermany #MedievalTown #HistoricCharm #LimburgCathedral #OldTownWonders
The medieval city
The city of carcassonne has an upper city and a lower one. The upper one is the old or the medieval city. It is an enormous walled city that is set on a hill and by the river. Makes for a lovely walk around. You could easily take 3-4 hours to explore the place on foot. But should you be here in summer, like in my case.
I highly recommend getting an early start. If you are staying overnight in Carcassonne. Then perhaps, this can be an activity for the next morning. I came here on a day trip from Toulouse. And by the time we got here, it was around half past 11 am. There were plenty of tourists.
It's got a very nice atmosphere. You could start walking from the outside and get an idea or appreciation of how big the structure is. Bring good walking shoes, the path is pebbled and uneven. There are plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants whenever you need to rest or grab a bite. The Basilica of Saint Nazaire is an excellent follow up.

Visiting a well preserved medieval city
#myhiddengems
Bamberg is a beautiful Bavarian city and what made me pick it is that it is comparatively lesser known. While at our hostel in Nuremberg, the three or us tried to figure out options for daytrips. It seemed that Bamberg wasn't a part of many people's itinerary. And the reason was merely a lack of mention. This is thought would be a good reason to head there. I always prefer places with less tourist and architecture especially in context to Germany has mostly been satisfying.
So we left for Bamberg. We didn’t have much of a plan for our visit to Bamberg and simply began to wander. We easily found the Old Town Hall, spanning the Regnitz River. The historic town is compact and that makes it walkable to reach most places of tourist interest. Strolling down by the river we had our first architectural sighting of St. Stephen's church. Walking further got us to a place with several buses making a stop. These were the notorious tour buses.
Focusing on the sights we kept walking. Soon enough the old court appeared. Again the architecture was very interesting. This followed a trip the museum which was nice. Next we had a glimpse of the shlenkerla tavern. It is a brewery that serves the local speciality of smoked beer is the age old traditional manner. (from the wooden barrel). Looking at how crowded it seemed. we just continued walking. The rest of the day trip included several old architectural gems and heritage like little venice and then we were on our way back to the train station.
