Hatsushima Island: A Perfect Day Trip from Tokyo! 🏝️☀️
#summervacay
If you're looking for a fantastic day trip from Tokyo, I highly recommend a visit to Hatsushima Island!
To get there, you first head to Atami from Tokyo. From Atami, you can catch a ferry to either Izu Oshima or Hatsushima. The ride to Hatsushima is super quick, taking only about 25 minutes. You can even buy your tickets online in advance, which usually includes both the ferry fare and access to the island's hot spring.
Pick a day with good weather, because the scenery is absolutely stunning! Hatsushima itself isn't very large. There are nice resting spots and individual bungalows, along with outdoor climbing facilities, which require separate tickets if you want to use them. Also, keep in mind that some restaurants on the island are cash-only, so it's a good idea to bring some cash with you.
For a day trip, you'll have plenty of time to head back to Atami for dinner. I highly recommend trying Atami's braised sea bream – it's delicious! And don't miss out on the caramel matcha dessert either, it's a real treat.

🏝️ A Peaceful Escape to Fukuurajima
Fukuurajima may be a small island, but it definitely carries its own quiet charm. After crossing the bright red Fukuurabashi Bridge (with a small entrance fee), we spent a leisurely hour strolling around the island — and it was well worth the visit.
The walk was easy and relaxing, with well-maintained paths winding through greenery and leading to several scenic photo spots. We managed to snap some really beautiful pictures, especially with the bay as a backdrop.
Scattered around the island are a few small traditional structures, like Benzaiten Temple, which add a bit of cultural interest, even though most lack signage or historical explanations. It’s not a place packed with attractions, but it’s ideal for those who enjoy a quiet nature walk, coastal views, and light exploration.
Fukuurajima is a great little detour while in Matsushima — perfect for a slow-paced visit where you can unwind and enjoy the scenery at your own rhythm.

Discover Cape Farewell, the stunning, windswept northernmost point of New Zealand's South Island!
Parking: There's a car park available, but be warned: the roads leading there are winding mountain roads, so drive carefully! 🚗
Cost: FREE entry! 🎉
Important Notes: Remember to close gates as you go (there might be sheep!). And speaking of sheep, watch your step – there'll be plenty of their "deposits" along the way! 🐑💩 Because it's a clifftop area and exposed to the elements, it can get very cold and windy, so dress warmly! 🧣🧤
Nestled at the very tip of New Zealand's South Island, Cape Farewell is a breathtaking natural attraction, showcasing magnificent coastlines and abundant natural beauty. It's one of New Zealand's most iconic headlands, drawing countless visitors to experience this picturesque region.
Highlights:
Spectacular Coastline: Cape Farewell is renowned for its majestic cliffs and vast ocean vistas. The cliffs rise dramatically from the sea, forming astounding natural landscapes that offer a powerful visual impact.
Fascinating Rock Formations: The rock formations here are incredibly unique, including wind-eroded arches and columnar rocks. In particular, Farewell Spit, a remarkable 35-kilometer-long sandspit extending into the ocean, is a haven for seabirds and a famous New Zealand nature reserve. 🐦 habitat.

A Day of Art & Scenic Views in Imabari – Even in the Rain
#cityplaybook
Imabari isn’t just about towels (though the towels are amazing)—it’s also a place where you can enjoy art, design, and nature all in one relaxed day. Even with a little rain, the experience felt fresh and fun.
My first stop was the Towel Museum, and it completely exceeded my expectations. From textile art to fun character exhibitions and beautifully designed displays, there’s something for everyone. Plus, the gift shop? Dangerous in the best way—so many soft, colorful temptations!
Later, I headed out along the Shimanami Kaido, a scenic cycling route that stretches over the sea. Even though the weather was rainy, the misty views had a quiet beauty of their own. I didn’t bike the whole thing, but just walking parts of it was refreshing and memorable.
Why I recommend Imabari:
・You can enjoy creativity, nature, and great local design all in one place
・Even in the rain, the coastal views and laid-back vibe shine through

A Relaxed Day by the Sea – Exploring Katsurahama
#cityplaybook
When you need a peaceful escape with ocean views and a touch of history, Katsurahama in Kochi is just the place. With its crashing waves, scenic coastline, and laid-back local spots, it’s perfect for a slow and easy day.
I started by walking along the beach at Katsurahama—the view of the Pacific stretching out in every direction is worth the trip alone. Just nearby is Ryuo-gu Shrine, tucked into the rocks and filled with seaside charm.
A short stroll brought me to Katsurahama Aquarium, a cozy spot with quirky exhibits and friendly animals. Not the biggest, but full of character—and perfect if you like places with a local touch.
For lunch, I stopped at Katsurahama Bishokukan Kami and ordered the diced steak set. Juicy, flavorful, and just the right amount of indulgent.
Why I recommend Katsurahama:
・The ocean view is stunning, and there’s a calm atmosphere you can’t help but love
・You can enjoy history, sea life, and great food all in one small, scenic area

A Gentle Day in Otaru – Canals, Views & Sea Breeze Moments
#cityplaybook
Otaru is one of those places where the sea, sky, and city all seem to slow down for you. Located along the coast of Hokkaido, this historic port town is known for its glassware, retro buildings, and beautiful waterfront walks.
One of the highlights of the day was the view from Mt. Kenashi—a quiet spot with sweeping views of the sea and city. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but totally worth it for the peaceful panorama.
Back in town, I took a walk along the Otaru Canal, where old warehouses and stone bridges line the calm water. It’s especially pretty in the early evening, with reflections dancing on the surface.
To end the day, I hopped on a sightseeing cruise from Otaru Port. Being out on the open water, watching the coastline drift by, was the perfect way to wind down.
Why I recommend Otaru:
・It’s a compact town where history and ocean views blend effortlessly
・You can go from mountaintop to harbor in a single, slow-paced day

Ride Between the Bridges: A Golden Hour Cycle Along Penang’s Coast
#springitinerary #PenangCycling #PenangBridges #SunsetRide #PenangSecondBridge #PenangFirstBridge #EveningCycling #CoastalViews #MalaysiaByBike #BridgeSideAdventure
As part of my itinerary in Penang, I went for an evening cycling ride along the coastal lane between Penang’s 1st and 2nd bridges — and it turned out to be a perfect way to end the day. The wide, paved cycling path hugged the water’s edge, offering uninterrupted views of the sea and both iconic bridges stretching across the horizon.
As the sun began to set, the sky transformed into shades of orange, pink, and purple. A cool breeze blew in from the coast, and the water shimmered in the fading light. The atmosphere was calm, with a mix of joggers, local cyclists, and a few anglers by the shore. It felt safe, scenic, and refreshingly peaceful — a hidden gem for those who want to see a different side of Penang.
Travel Tips:
• Best time to cycle: Evening (around 5:30–7:00 PM) for cooler temperatures and sunset views.
• Bring your own bike or rent nearby: Bike-sharing may be limited in this area.
• Stay hydrated: Bring water as there are few shops along the way.
• Perfect for beginners and casual riders: The route is flat and well-paved.
• Watch for tide and wind: Coastal wind can be strong at times — secure any loose gear.
• Bring a headlamp or light if staying past dusk: Lighting is limited after dark.
How to Get There:
• By car or Grab: Navigate to Queensbay Mall or Batu Maung for easy access to entry points.
• Nearby landmarks: Second Bridge (Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge) and First Bridge (Penang Bridge).
• By public transport: Buses to Queensbay area, then cycle or walk to the trail start.
• Combine with: Dinner at Queensbay seaside cafes, or a visit to Batu Maung fishing village.

If you’re ever in Oita and looking for a unique, heartwarming experience, I highly recommend a day trip to Tsukumi Dolphin Island to swim with dolphins. Nestled along the quiet coastline, this small fishing village offers an unforgettable encounter with nature.
The dolphin swimming program is thoughtfully run, with friendly staff who are passionate about marine life and conservation. Before getting into the water, we received a short but informative briefing about dolphin behavior and how to interact with them respectfully. Safety and the well-being of the animals are clearly a top priority.
Once in the water, the magic truly begins. Swimming with these intelligent, playful creatures was a surreal experience that we will never forget. The dolphins were curious and gentle, often coming up close, and we even got to touch and play with them under the guidance of the trainers. The water was calm and clear, making it easy to relax and truly enjoy the moment.
The village of Youra itself is peaceful and scenic—worth exploring if you have some extra time. It’s not overly touristy, which makes the whole experience feel more personal and authentic.
Tips:
• Book in advance, especially during weekends or holidays.
• Swimsuits and life jackets are provided, so no need to bring your own.
Overall, this was a perfect one-day trip that combined adventure, nature, and a bit of local culture. Highly recommended for families, couples, or solo travelers looking for something a little different in Kyushu, Japan.
Lincombe Hall Hotel & Spa 🏞️
#spas
Staying at Lincombe Hall Hotel & Spa in Torquay was a luxurious and relaxing experience! The adults-only hotel is nestled on a hill, offering peaceful views and just a 10-minute walk from the beautiful Torquay Harbour. The rooms were modern and comfy, but the highlight for me was the spa. For £15 a day, you can access the thermal suite, which includes a sauna, steam room, and hydrotherapy pool—absolutely perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring.
The hotel is also close to the Agatha Christie Mile and the South West Coast Path, which are perfect for leisurely strolls. The breakfast included was fantastic, with a mix of continental and full English options. I spent my days exploring the coast and my evenings enjoying the peacefulness of the spa. Whether you're there for a romantic getaway or just to relax, Lincombe Hall is an ideal spot! 🌊🛁🍽️

Portofino Italy 🇮🇹
#italytrip
Just got back from a day in Portofino, and it was like walking into a postcard! This tiny harbor town on the Italian Riviera is all about elegance and charm. We took a ferry from Santa Margherita Ligure, which cost about €10 each way, and arriving by sea with the colorful buildings coming into view was breathtaking 🚤🌈. There's no entrance fee to enter Portofino, but it has a luxurious feel, with high-end boutiques and yachts docked in the marina.
We wandered around the piazzetta, which is lined with chic cafés and shops. For lunch, we splurged a bit on seafood pasta at a waterfront restaurant, and it was worth every euro 🍝🦞. After lunch, we hiked up to Castello Brown, the entrance fee was €5, and the views from there are absolutely stunning. You get a panoramic view of the town and the sparkling Ligurian Sea below 🌊🏰.
Nearby, Paraggi Beach is a short walk away if you're looking for a spot to relax by the water. We also took a stroll to the Church of St. George for another great viewpoint. Portofino might be small, but it’s packed with beauty and a perfect spot to soak up the Italian Riviera vibe.

Riomaggiore day trip 🇮🇹
#italytrip
Spent a day in Riomaggiore, one of the beautiful villages in Cinque Terre, and it was like stepping into a postcard! The train from La Spezia was just a few euros, and once you arrive, you're greeted by colorful houses stacked on the cliffs overlooking the sea 🌊🏘️. There’s no entrance fee to the village itself, but if you want to hike the trails between the villages, you'll need a Cinque Terre Trekking Card, which costs around €7.50.
We started with a walk down to the harbor, where the boats and crystal-clear waters made for some stunning photos. For lunch, we grabbed some fresh seafood at a little trattoria overlooking the water – the anchovies and pesto pasta were incredible 🍝🐟. Then, we strolled through the narrow, winding streets, checking out the local shops selling everything from ceramics to lemon-themed souvenirs.
The Via dell'Amore trail was unfortunately closed, but we still enjoyed hiking a bit up the hillside for some incredible views of the village and the sea. If you have time, take a dip in the harbor or just relax on the rocks and soak up the sun.
Riomaggiore is a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure, with that authentic Italian charm. Can't recommend it enough for a day trip!

A bit of kayaking in Portugal 🗺️
#kayak
I recently went kayaking in the Algarve, Portugal, and it was truly a highlight of my trip! 🛶 The Algarve is famous for its stunning coastline, and seeing it from the water was an experience I’ll never forget. We started our adventure in Lagos, a charming town with a rich history and beautiful beaches. The kayak tour cost around €40, which included all the equipment and a friendly guide who knew the area like the back of his hand.
As soon as we paddled out, we were greeted by the most incredible scenery—crystal-clear waters, dramatic cliffs, and hidden caves just waiting to be explored. The highlight was definitely kayaking through the famous Benagil Cave. The moment you glide into the cave and see the sun streaming through the open ceiling, it feels like you’ve discovered a secret world. 🌞
The tour also took us along the Ponta da Piedade, where the rock formations are nothing short of breathtaking. Our guide pointed out interesting shapes in the rocks and even some hidden beaches that you can only access by boat. We stopped at one of these secluded spots for a swim, and the water was so clear and refreshing. It felt like a private paradise!
If you’re planning a visit, I’d also recommend checking out the nearby beaches like Praia Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo—they’re perfect for relaxing after your kayaking adventure. The whole area is full of charming towns, great food, and beautiful views, so there’s plenty to explore.
Kayaking in the Algarve was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a complete beginner, this is an experience you don’t want to miss. I’m already dreaming of going back! 🏖️

A hike to Hvítserkur 🗺️
#outdooractivities
This summer, I took an unforgettable hike to Hvítserkur, the famous basalt sea stack on Iceland’s northern coast. Known as the “drinking dragon,” Hvítserkur stands about 15 meters tall, rising dramatically from the sea. The hike to get there was nothing short of magical, with Iceland’s rugged landscape unfolding around every corner.
Starting from the small parking area near the Vatnsnes Peninsula, the trail was free to access and easy to follow. It took me along the coastline, where I was treated to stunning views of the ocean and distant mountains. The hike was relatively short—about 30 minutes each way—but the scenery made it feel like a true adventure. Along the way, I spotted seals lounging on the shore and countless seabirds nesting in the cliffs.
As I approached Hvítserkur, the anticipation grew. Seeing it up close was awe-inspiring. The sea stack looked almost otherworldly, with its dark basalt standing stark against the blue-gray water. The waves crashing against its base added to the dramatic effect. I spent some time just sitting on the shore, taking in the wild beauty of the scene and snapping photos.
If you’re in northern Iceland, a hike to Hvítserkur is a must. It’s a perfect blend of easy walking, wildlife, and jaw-dropping natural beauty. 🌊🐉 #trip #Hvítserkur #IcelandAdventure #NatureHike #WildIceland #CoastalViews

Enoshima & Kamakura: A Perfect Day Trip from Tokyo! 🌊⛩️
#summervacay
Looking for a fantastic day trip from Tokyo? I highly recommend exploring Enoshima and Kamakura!
Here's how I did it:
First, take the train to Fujisawa Station. From there, transfer to Platform 4 for the Katase-Enoshima direction. Get off at Katase-Enoshima Station (片瀬江ノ島), which is quite a beautiful station itself. The coast is nearby, or you can simply walk directly to Enoshima Island.
Exploring Enoshima Island
Cross the long bridge to Enoshima. On a clear day, you can even spot Mount Fuji from the bridge – amazing! The island is packed with restaurants and local snacks. Just keep walking along the main path, and you'll start your ascent towards the shrines on the hilltop.
Once you're on the hill, you can choose to buy a ticket for the observation deck, or simply wander around and enjoy the scenic views. On a nice day, it's incredibly pleasant and relaxing. There are traditional Japanese restaurants like Uomitei and Fujimitei up there, all with ocean-front seating, so you can enjoy delicious food with a fantastic view.
If it's hot, grabbing a chilled pineapple is super refreshing! The cat at the pineapple stand was also incredibly cute – a fluffy ball of fur, just like a little doll.
Continue walking down to the seaside, and you'll reach the Iwaya Caves. Entrance is ¥500 for adults. Inside, you'll be given a small candle holder to carry as you explore the two cave sections. Just a heads-up: if you're tall, there's one section where you'll need to stoop low for a while, which can get a bit tiring!

My Nagasaki Half-Day City Walk: Exploring the Coastal Charms! 🚶♀️🌊
#summervacay
Since I was staying near Nagasaki Station, I decided to walk to Oura Cathedral. It looked like only about a 30-minute stroll, and better yet, I could follow the coastline and take in the sea views. Plus, it was an overcast day, so no worries about the sun beating down on the beach – perfect for a city walk!
Stop 1: Port Promenade & Giant Yellow Sphere
As I made my way to the coast, my first stop was the Port Promenade (港の散步道). I followed the path until I reached the giant yellow sphere sculpture. From there, I climbed up a few sets of stairs to get to a higher vantage point. The view was incredibly open, giving me a fantastic panoramic look over the harbor – definitely worth the climb!
Stop 2: Coastal Eateries
Next, I passed by a row of charming restaurants and bars right by the sea. Eating or grabbing a drink with that ocean view would be a great option. However, it wasn't mealtime when I passed by, and I was just starting my walk, so I wasn't quite ready for a break.
Stop 3: Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum
My third stop brought me to the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum. The museum's architecture itself is really distinctive, which I loved. I found I could even go up to the roof for some more great views – the perspective was excellent. I wasn't particularly interested in the current exhibitions, and since I only had half a day to explore Nagasaki, I decided not to go inside.
This city walk was a fantastic way to get a feel for Nagasaki's coastal beauty and explore some cool spots at my own pace!

🚶♀️ Hiking Sydney’s Stunning Spit Bridge to Manly Walk 🌿🌊
#getgoing2025
One of the best ways to take in Sydney’s coastal beauty is by walking the Spit Bridge to Manly track—a 10km hike filled with breathtaking harbour views, hidden beaches, and lush bushland. This year, I’ve made it a goal to explore more of my home city, Sydney, and this walk was the perfect way to start!
🌟 Highlights of the Walk:
🏝️ Clontarf Beach – A peaceful, family-friendly spot with calm waters. A great place to take a break!
🌿 Sydney Harbour National Park – The track weaves through shaded bushland, offering stunning views over Middle Harbour and beyond.
👀 Dobroyd Head Lookout – One of the most scenic spots on the walk, with panoramic views over the harbour and Manly.
🌊 Reef Beach & Forty Baskets Beach – Small, secluded beaches perfect for a quick dip along the way.
🥗 Refuel at Norma’s Deli
After finishing the hike in Manly, I stopped by Norma’s Deli for a well-earned meal. Their Mediterranean-inspired menu is perfect for post-hike refueling—I went for their halloumi and falafel plate, which was fresh and delicious! 🥙✨
🚆 Getting There & Back:
* Start: Spit Bridge (take a bus from Wynyard or drive).
* Finish: Manly (ferry or bus back to the city).
💡 Tips for the Walk:
✅ Wear comfortable shoes—the track has some uneven terrain! 👟
✅ Bring water and sunscreen—it’s mostly exposed to the sun. ☀️
✅ Stop for a swim—there are so many beautiful beaches along the way!
This walk reminded me just how incredible Sydney’s natural beauty is, and I can’t wait to explore more hidden gems around the city this year. 🌊✨

Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia, was an unforgettable escape filled with stunning coastal views, unique wildlife, and relaxing vibes. Located about 90 minutes from Melbourne, it’s a perfect day trip or weekend getaway. The entrance fee to the Penguin Parade was AUD $27, and it was worth every cent to watch these adorable little penguins waddle home at sunset! 🐧🌅
I started the day exploring the Nobbies Centre, where I enjoyed breathtaking ocean views and saw seals lounging on the rocks through the telescopes. 🦭 Then I headed to Churchill Island Heritage Farm, a charming spot showcasing Victoria’s farming history, complete with sheep-shearing and cow-milking demonstrations.
The beaches on the island are stunning too—Cape Woolamai is a must for its dramatic cliffs and golden sands, perfect for hiking or just soaking in the views. 🏖️ Phillip Island is also home to delicious local food; I highly recommend trying fresh seafood at San Remo.
If you love nature and wildlife, Phillip Island is a dream come true! Don’t forget your binoculars and camera. 📸

✨ Taking the Train from Barcelona to Tarragona: A Ride to Remember ✨🚂

Fun Fact: The Barcelona to Tarragona train route hugs the Mediterranean coast, offering some of Spain’s most stunning seaside views.
If you’re looking for a train ride that’s equal parts scenic and chaotic fun, the journey from Barcelona to Tarragona is your ticket to ride. First, let’s talk views: as the train glides along the Mediterranean, the sparkling blue sea practically waves at you, saying, “Welcome to paradise!” Pro tip: snag a window seat because this is no time to be staring at your phone.
But it’s not all about the sights. This train ride also offers you a crash course in Spanish commuter culture. Expect lively chatter, someone loudly opening a bag of jamón-flavored chips, and at least one person juggling their coffee like a circus act.
Tarragona itself is worth the trip—a seaside town with Roman ruins and beaches that scream, “Stay forever!” But honestly, the train ride is half the adventure. With coastal views, local quirks, and the thrill of possibly missing your stop, this is a journey you won’t forget.
Qingdao experience
I had the chance to visit Qingdao and explore the iconic May Fourth Square, and it was a memorable experience that blended both modernity and rich cultural heritage.
Qingdao itself is a beautiful coastal city on the eastern seaboard of China. The first thing that struck me was the unique combination of German colonial architecture and traditional Chinese buildings, which gives the city a distinctive charm. The air was fresh, a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of some other major cities in China, and the coastal breeze added to the relaxing atmosphere.
When I visited May Fourth Square, I was immediately drawn to the impressive "May Wind" sculpture—its twisting red structure stands out against the skyline, symbolizing the vitality and spirit of the 1919 May Fourth Movement, a key event in China's modern history. The square itself is spacious, with wide walkways and a beautiful view of the Yellow Sea, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll. I also noticed how much the space is used by locals, who were jogging, chatting, or simply enjoying the sea breeze.
As I walked around, I noticed how the area around May Fourth Square has developed with modern high-rises and public art installations. The blend of the old and new felt quite reflective of Qingdao itself—traditional yet forward-looking. The sea-facing promenade offered stunning views of the coastline, and I spent some time simply sitting and soaking in the peaceful scenery.
It was also great to see how Qingdao's rich history was balanced with its rapid modernization. The square is not just a tourist spot but also a place where locals gather, making it feel vibrant and full of life. The whole experience gave me a deep appreciation for Qingdao's history, its growth as a modern city, and its connection to the sea.
In all, my visit to Qingdao and May Fourth Square was a highlight of my travels, providing a perfect mix of history, culture, and beautiful coastal views.
