National Museum in Prague: A Natural History Marvel I Can't Get Enough Of! 🇨🇿🏛️
#summervacay
I just had a truly awe-inspiring visit to the National Museum in Prague! Winter really is a perfect time to explore museums, and this one absolutely left a lasting impression on me.
Even though it's described as a comprehensive museum, I noticed its strong focus on natural history, which I think is its real strength. The experience actually begins the moment you walk up the grand staircase at the old building's main entrance, leading you right into the main hall – that alone was such a memorable start!
I found myself completely captivated, just standing beneath that magnificent golden domed hall. I could have spent so much longer just soaking in that opulent atmosphere.
The animal specimen and fossil exhibitions were definitely a huge highlight for me. The combination of the museum's grand architecture and those colossal skeletons creates such a stunning and impactful visual. It's a kind of beauty that just gives me chills every time.
The marine animal exhibit also really stood out. There was one hall with a giant octopus decoration that I thought was incredibly artistic and even had this cool, almost "Cthulhu-esque" vibe – super unique!
Beyond the main exhibits, I also really appreciated all the exquisite architectural details throughout the museum. They just added to its overall beauty and grandeur.
It felt like a truly immersive and beautiful experience, perfectly blending the wonders of the natural world with breathtaking historical architecture. I already want to go back!

Horniman Museum and Gardens: A Journey Through Global Cultures 🌍🌿
#summervacay
You've highlighted a truly fascinating and unique institution in London: the Horniman Museum and Gardens! This museum offers a captivating deep dive into human culture and the natural world, all while shedding light on its intriguing origins.
The Horniman Museum boasts an impressive collection of approximately 350,000 objects, specimens, and handicrafts from across Africa, Asia, Europe, and beyond. These diverse artifacts offer a direct window into the daily lives and beliefs of people from around the globe.
A Legacy Built on Tea (and Opium Trade):
The museum is named after Frederick Horniman, who inherited and expanded his father's business, Horniman's Tea. Interestingly, the Horniman family didn't own tea plantations; they were merchants who purchased Chinese tea at auctions in the London market. This trade leveraged the advantageous low prices of tea resulting from Britain's opium sales in China. Using their reputation as honest Quakers, they promoted their brand of pure, unadulterated tea, ultimately accumulating immense profits from this trade. It's a complex history that adds another layer to understanding the museum's foundation.
What to Explore:
Free Admission: The main museum and gardens are free to visit and open Monday to Sunday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM.
Special Exhibitions & Attractions (Paid):
Dinosaur rEvolution: Running until November 3rd, tickets are £9.
Small Aquarium: Highly recommended at £6! Dive into a watery world.
Butterfly House: Step into a tropical haven for £9.
Gardens & More: Beyond the main building, explore the beautiful gardens, the interactive Sound Garden, and a charming small farm.
The Horniman Museum and Gardens offers a rich and thought-provoking experience, blending cultural heritage with natural history and even a peek into complex historical trade routes.

Oxford's Hidden Gem: The Pitt Rivers Museum 🇬🇧✨
#summervacay
You've perfectly captured the unique charm of Oxford's Pitt Rivers Museum – truly a treasure trove! This isn't your average museum; it's a fascinating journey through global cultures and human ingenuity.
Founded in 1884 by Augustus Pitt Rivers, a distinguished British archaeologist and anthropologist, the museum houses his incredible private collection, which he generously donated to Oxford University. You'll find over 500,000 artifacts from all corners of the world, spanning various eras. This vast collection includes everything from ancient tools, weapons, and musical instruments to traditional clothing, religious artifacts, and everyday objects.
The most distinctive aspect of the Pitt Rivers Museum is its unique display method. Unlike modern museums, items are often grouped typologically (by type) rather than geographically or chronologically. This creates a dense, cabinet-of-curiosities feel, encouraging unexpected connections between cultures and objects.
A Double Delight with Natural History! 🦖🦋
One of the best parts is that the Pitt Rivers Museum is directly connected to the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. You can easily walk from one to the other!
The Oxford University Museum of Natural History (Figures 9-16) is equally impressive. It boasts a rich collection of its own, including:
Dinosaur fossils
Meteorites
Minerals and gemstones
Insect and bird specimens
Animal skeletons
It's a wonderful place that vividly showcases the incredible diversity and wonder of the natural world.
Plan Your Visit:
Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM - 5 PM; Monday, 12 PM - 5 PM.
Admission: Both museums offer free admission – an amazing bonus!
Visiting both museums offers a comprehensive and captivating experience, perfectly blending the wonders of human culture with the marvels of the natural world.

🇸🇬 Plants📍Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum
The herbarium at Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum is an extensive collection of preserved plant specimens, mainly from Southeast Asia, including Singapore.
🌟 One of the highlights of the museum is the Changi Tree Slice (Sindora wallichii). This tree was once one of the tallest and most iconic trees in Singapore, standing at around 76 meters (250 feet). It was located near the Changi area, which it was named after.
🌟The life-sized model of the Titan Arum, or "corpse flower," showcases one of the largest flowers in the world. The exhibit educates visitors about the plant's unique pollination strategy and its rarity.
🌟The Rafflesia model represents the world's largest flower, known for its parasitic nature and the strong odor it emits. This exhibit highlights the plant's fascinating biology and the conservation challenges it faces.

🇸🇬 Impressive Dinosaur Fossils 📍Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum
The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum in Singapore is home to several impressive dinosaur skeletons. The most famous of these are the three diplodocid sauropod skeletons nicknamed "Prince," "Apollonia," and "Twinky." These dinosaurs, from the species Diplodocus and Apatosaurus, are some of the largest creatures to have ever walked the earth, and they lived during the late Jurassic period, about 150 million years ago.
These skeletons are displayed in the museum's main gallery and are a central attraction. Each skeleton is around 80% complete, which is rare for dinosaur fossils. The museum acquired these skeletons from the United States, where they were found in Wyoming's Dana Quarry. The display is complemented by educational information about the dinosaurs, their environment, and the process of fossilization.

Shanghai Natural History Museum
I absolutely love museums so when I finally got to visit the Natural History Museum, I was kind of excited!
Entry to the museum is 30RMB and you purchase tickets through WeChat at the entrance.
Once inside you can easily spend 2-3 hours just wandering. The museum exhibits are huge! The largest area is taken up by the animal models which ranges from dinosaurs to under water creatures. Some models are animatronic so be ready to hear the cry of an animal. There’s also a butterfly exhibit inside the main area, from the outside of this room you can see all of the colours and styles of different butterflies.
History of animal life is below, just keep following the main route and you’ll see every part.
The gift shop is pretty interesting, magnets and gems are available to buy as well as stuffed animal teddies.

Finnish Museum of Natural History: A Kid's Paradise in Helsinki! 🇫🇮🐻
#summervacay
I just visited the Finnish Museum of Natural History (Luonnontieteellinen museo), and it truly is a paradise for kids! This museum is absolutely fantastic for families.
Spanning three floors, it's filled with full-sized specimens of Nordic wildlife and incredibly realistic 3D animal models. Not only do these make for fun photos, but they're also a brilliant way for children to learn about different animals and plants. I highly recommend it! What's more, the museum is surprisingly uncrowded, allowing for a much more relaxed visit. My little one, "Little Pumpkin," spent over two hours inside and didn't want to leave!
After our museum adventure, we headed to the seaside for some ice cream and to feed the seagulls, finally welcoming what the Finns call "summer"!

Francois Leguat Nature Reserve and Restaurant.
This place must be on your list if you are visiting Rodrigues. Be sure to check the times for the guided tours. Would recommend to bring a hat or umbrella and water because of the scorching sun. During the visit, you get to see the vegetation and different species of tortoises. There is also a walk through 'La Grande Caverne'. It's all very fascinating to experience natural history.
During the walk, one can also see the airport runway. It looks pretty, don't worry.
We went to the 10 30 guided visit and had lunch at the restaurant after. We did not book a table before hand and got lucky. But it is recommended to book a table in advance.
Try the 'salad' popsicle on your way out as dessert. It has all the tropical flavours (ananas and tamarin with chilli salt (du sel pima)).
The visit can get tiring as there is no canopy. There are quite a lot of stairs. You might also feel claustrophobic in the caves. Just be prepared and it's a nice experience. The guides were lovely and so polite!

The Fun Mu
The Fun Museum is like a replica of the Chongqing #naturalhistory museum, but with the inclusion of a game arcade. It's located inside the #chaotianmen Plaza on the first floor near to the KFC outlet. It's full name is Chongqing Natural History Museum Fun Museum, but it's important to know that it's not the actual museum that is found on 398 Jinhua Road, Beibei. This one is huge though, and makes you feel lucky to get a chance to experience dinner of the things at the actual museum. It has a variety of fun themes to see such as a Safari trail, a Noah's Ark boat with lots of stuffed toys to buy as gifts, and the Fun Zone, which hosts cool rides and games like VR and basketball 🏀.
Rating: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. It was a delight to stumble upon such an intriguing place.
Roar!!!
The natural history museum has lots of dinosaur fossil and specimen. The gemstone area is amazing too, there are gemstones that are over 500 carats, huge!

Beautiful Museum in Shanghai
I visited the Natural History Museum in Shanghai and it did not disappoint!
My friends and I spent a day at the museum and loved taking the day to learn about all sorts of cool animal facts and history of the world. The displays here are very well done. I especially enjoyed the safari room which included a show that made the entire exhibit transition from day to night. They also had an arctic themed section which was quite fascinating.
I highly recommend a visit here if you live in or are visiting Shanghai! :)

Day at the Museum
New York hosts many world class museums. Of course the Met is one of the most famous ones, but the American Museum of Natural history should not be overlooked. Located on the Upper West Side, the museum focuses on the natural history and organisms of the world.
I personally really enjoyed this museum as it was very interesting and neat to find real life models of a whale and dinosaur skeletons. Its a very informative museum that really gives you a perspective of our place in the world. The rich biodiversity of the world and the many organisms that we share it with us also highlighted. It also highlights the many cultural artifacts we as humans have come to pass down.
The museum is easily reachable by subway and is located on the other side of central park from the Met.
Overall a very interesting museum that highlights our natural world and the need to preserve it. It's a very cool museum and has a very 'museum' feel to it, as in it feels very grand and old school, but in a good one. Again, the price is a bit high but definitely worth it it; you'll feel like a kid again!
