Magome-Tsumago Trail (Old Nakasendo). Personal recommendations
From Nagoya, you can walk the Nakasendo route in one day. It's easy even for an unprepared tourist, the main thing is to know where it's easiest to start from. We were with a 3-year-old child and walked the route from Magome to Tsumago. It's in this order that the route is easiest to walk, since most of the route is downhill. And now a little more detail.
📌The most convenient and fastest way to get from Nagoya Station to Magome-juku is:
1. 🚇Train from Nagoya station to Nakatsugawa station, fast train - 50 minutes, slow - 75 minutes and twice cheaper.
2. 🚍from Nakatsugawa Station to Magome-juku by bus - The bus runs frequently, after exiting Nakatsugawa station, turn left and you will see the stop, payment on the bus is in cash.
📌And here you are already in one of the post towns - Magome-juku.
Along the way there are many different cafes, souvenir shops, etc. you will never be hungry along the route! approximately in the middle of the way you will come across a hut where you can rest a little, drink tea (it's free) and continue on your way.
📌 Wear comfortable shoes and take enough cash for souvenirs and food)
📌 After walking the entire route, which is about 8 kilometers, you will find yourself in the second post town
- Tsumago-juku, it is also beautiful, there are enough souvenir shops and places to eat. Spend enough time here!
📝 interesting observation - Magome-juku is in Gifu prefecture, and Tsumago-juku is in Nagano prefecture, so you will visit two prefectures and hike between them!)
📌 From Tsumago-juku, it is more convenient to take a bus to Nagiso Station and return to Nagoya from there.
🚍The bus stop is easy to find following the signs in the village.

the Historic Nakasendo Trail 🥾
#hikingtrails
The hike is easy and accessible, and it took us about an hour to complete.
Experience the charm of old Japan by hiking the Nakasendo Road, particularly the scenic stretch from Tsumago-juku to Nagiso Station. This historic trail, once a vital route connecting Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto, offers stunning views of traditional post towns, serene forests, and picturesque countryside.
Along the way, you'll be immersed in the peaceful beauty of rural Japan, passing through well-preserved sections of the ancient road, quaint wooden houses, and breathtaking nature. The hike is gentle and perfect for those looking for a mix of history, culture, and nature.
‼️Pro tip: Since there are bears in the area, it's wise to bring something that makes noise, like a bell (you can also rent one in the villages).

Nakasendo Path
We start in the city of Nagoya. It is better to plan the trip early in the morning, from Nagoya Station, you will first need to take a train for a little more than an hour to Nakatsugawo Station. Then take a bus that leads to the Magome stop. The journey to the starting point of the journey will take about two hours.
You need to prepare in advance by wearing comfortable trekking shoes, and take rain capes with you.
Basically, everyone goes from Magome to Tsumago-jiku, but you can expand your vacation program and get to another point of Narai-juku.
The walk begins with small shops, souvenirs, and cafes. Immediately there is a view of the houses in the traditional Japanese style.
Everything is provided on the route, clean free toilets, there is a house in which a local resident offers to drink hot tea with sweets in a heated room for donations. There are also bells on the route that you need to ring to scare away bears.
The whole way is crowned with signs where to go next, so you will definitely not get lost.
In the middle of the path there are two waterfalls.
So, we reach the last house. We take a bus to Nagiso Train Station, buy a ticket to Narai to go to the most luxurious view of the way, Nara-juku. This is the place that you will see in all the photos that embody this path. The place is truly unique.
The train ride passes through the It lasts about an hour.
It is worth noting that shops and cafes are open mainly until 16:00.
It is also worth adding that the path of the nakasendo is longer than the indicated points, you can find out more about this by taking detailed guidebooks at the stations.
The path along the nakasendo turned out to be very exciting, at the same time easy to pass and memorable, brought a lot of positive emotions and a charge of vivacity and positivity.#nakasendo #magomejuku #Nakasendo
