I miss their lovely cookies upon checking in. All DoubleTree properties serve their freshly baked cookies when you check in. Their cookies are definitely a pull factor for me. You can choose from their deluxe/executive/suite rooms. My one bedroom suite had a bathtub and it had a separate living room from the bedroom. It was lovely. They even had a jacuzzi tub at their pool level so you can enjoy a dip in their pool before going for a hot jacuzzi soak. There is also no need to worry about transport after you have cleared the JB customs. It is a short walk from JB City Square. However, the road leading to DoubleTree Hilton JB has an upslope and no proper pavement too. My previous stay here was when Amari JB just opened for business. I like their spacious lobby and lovely rooms. I recommend you take their rooms with pool facing views. You can choose from superior/deluxe/grand deluxe/executive rooms. They also have pool access rooms and there is no need to book any swimming pool time slots. So you may wish to consider this room type too. Both Amari JB and Suasana Suites JB are nearby so it is easy to use the traffic light crossing across JBCC to come here. If you are coming from Woodlands checkpoint and into Johor Iskandar checkpoint, you can even save on transport. Holiday Villa Johor Bahru City Centre Address: 260, Jalan Dato Sulaiman, Taman Abad, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia I am going to plan a trip back again soon. I went over to Holiday Villa JB to take a look when I was at KSL. Holiday Villa still looked the same and even the korean restaurant K-Fry also still in operation. You can choose from a superior/deluxe room. I recommend you to choose the deluxe room because I remember some of their superior rooms are smoking rooms. Elses you can try out their premium suite which is much more spacious and has a 5 seater sofa in the room. The eateries at the lobby are still in operation and there is a new cafe right at the hotel lobby too. Sometimes, when I do not have a booking at Holiday Villa, then I will pay for their valet parking for safety purposes. I came here for their Hello Kitty themed rooms. The kids loved it and every hello kitty room was different. The reception had a list of all the hello kitty rooms in photos. It was possible to get your favourite hello kitty room as long as they were available. Each hello kitty room also came with a hello kitty goodie bag for you to bring home. It was a pity that the bathroom did not have many hello kitty decorations. If you like pink and hello kitty, this is a great place to check it out. The Renaissance JB Hotel has a very nice swimming pool and I love their buffet breakfast. You can choose from deluxe/bayview/executive rooms. I have been to their club lounge and their offerings were great. At their top of the building, they have a huge R at their highest point. They did recognize my membership and gave me a 4pm late checkout. I did not have a chance to try out their Chinese restaurant in the lobby. KSL Resort Johor Bahru City Centre Address: 33, Jalan Seladang, Taman Abad, 80250 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia I am going to plan a trip back again soon. Yes I checked in during the long labour day weekend. I am happy to be back in JB. Everything seemed to remain as-is. KSL Resort JB still looks the same and I got a free upgrade to their triple bed room at Tower 1. The shops inside KSL are also open for business. The ladies can get their hair, nails and facial done. The men can get their proper massages. Even in the basement, there is a new addition of a food court style market. The cinema has changed name to Golden Screen and I also managed to watch a movie in Cantonese. The dinosaur theme pool was also open for guests and many kids went there. So it is business as usual at KSL. Even the public bus from KSL to JB Sentral is also in operation. Suasana Suites Johor Bahru Address: 82C, Jalan Trus, Bandar Johor Bahru, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia I am going to plan a trip back again soon. This is a great place to stayover for family. You get the entire living room, bedroom and toilet altogether. Their basic room is already a suite by itself and you get a kitchenette with proper cooking functions. There is also a dining table for proper seating. If you have large families, you can take their three bedroom suites too. The location is also very good, right opposite JBCC along Jalan Wong Ah Fook. By the way, do not miss their rooftop pool, they have great views on top. Do not worry about crossing the road. This is because there is a proper traffic light crossing from Suasana Suites to JBCC. J Hotel Johor Bahru Address: 89, Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/3, Taman Sutera Utama, 81300 Skudai, Johor, Malaysia I am going to plan a trip back again soon. I chose this hotel because it was very near Sutera Mall and there are many restaurants along the same street. They have a very beautifully decorated lobby with a piano. If you choose their family room, their bed is very huge. I also managed to try out their theme room and I chose the Japanese theme. The bed was placed on a built-in platform instead of the usual bed with a bed frame. And the flooring was tatami. It did feel like Japanese but the toilet was not decorated. The Japanese theme room was a bit small so I would rather take the usual rooms. The usual rooms were pretty good too, with space for walking. This is a lovely hotel with an amazing view. Do remember to visit their infinity pool overlooking their marina. You can choose between their deluxe studio, premier studio and even one bedroom apartment. They have a fully equipped kitchenette with washer and dryer in the room. It is great for a mini vacation. I stayed at their premier studio and the bed is positioned right in front of the balcony so I can see sea views before I sleep and after I wake up. Capri by Fraser, Johor Bahru Address: Menara Tiga Serangkai, Jalan Tengku Azizah, Kim Teng Park, 80300 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia This is a hotel nearby JB Sentral and you can walk from JB Sentral too. But I will suggest you to use grab/taxi if you are not driving. It will be easier as there are no proper foot paths. Anyway, you can check their free shuttle bus timing from JB City Square to Capri by Fraser JB. There is a local prata store nearby (Bukit Chagar Roti Canai), open in the morning and it is a great place for breakfast. There is a lovely rooftop pool which overlooks CIQ checkpoint. The rooms are lovely at Capri JB, you can choose between having an apartment equipped with washer/dryer and kitchen or a regular studio hotel room.
