A Calm Day in Manila – Cobblestone Streets & Cathedral Quiet
#cityplaybook
If you’re looking for a slower, softer side of Manila, the Intramuros district is the perfect place to start. Surrounded by old stone walls and filled with Spanish colonial charm, it’s a peaceful step back in time in the middle of a fast-moving city.
Wandering through the quiet streets of Intramuros, I felt like I was in a different world—colorful façades, horse-drawn carriages, and leafy plazas around every corner. It’s the kind of place where you can walk without a map and still discover something lovely.
One of the highlights was the Manila Cathedral. With its grand architecture and soft light pouring through stained glass windows, it’s both impressive and incredibly peaceful inside. I sat for a while, just soaking in the calm.
No rush, no crowds—just Manila at its most timeless.
Why I recommend Intramuros:
・It’s a beautiful blend of history and quiet charm, perfect for slow travel
・The contrast between old and new makes every step feel meaningful

Manila Cathedral is a stunning example of Romanesque and Byzantine architecture. Located in Intravenous of Manila. It features intricate stained glass windows, a beautiful altar, and a rich history. The church has been rebuilt multiple times due to natural disasters but remains a symbol of faith. For those interested in history, religion, and architecture, this cathedral is a must-see in Manila.

Dining Experience Under A Churchbell
Belfry Cafe is a spot in the walled-city of Intramuros, alongside the massive Manila Cathedral or the Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Literally you would dine under the enormous churchbell, (if not the biggest, one of the biggest in the country), which in idea alone is fascinating or you may opt to dine in al fresco. The cafe is right inside the vicinity of the cathedral which offers coffee, teas, pastries and the likes. It's a must try spot over if you happen to go visit the cathedral or pass by during your Intramuros local trips. #voyagevibes #belfrycafe #chuchbell #manilacathedral #intramuros #spanishera #traveldiaries

Must visit
Must visit to Intramuros in Manila. Most attractive old city tour. #intramuros #Mangoshake #manilacathedral
The origin
The original cathedral of Manila was comprehensively destroyed during WWII. The current cathedral was built after the war to replace it, but obviously couldn't be expected to be of the same build-quality. It's nice enough, but just doesn't have that same colonial aura to it. #manilacathedral
